The Average Man's Terrarium

A nice happy medium between the Poor Man's Terrarium and a full fledged PF terrarium.

This is an old outdated tek. It also does not give clear instructions, and it does not provide ideal conditions for fruiting. Not recommended.

Materials needed:

  • Tupperware container
  • Plexi-glass
  • Roll of foam window sealant
  • Perlite
  • Wire Mesh

The plexi glass must be cut to the size of the top of the tupperware container. When this is done, apply strips of the window sealant to the edges of the plexi glass. Now, dump a 1.5 - 2 inch layer of perlite onto the bottom of the terrarium, and add 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water. Cut the wire mesh 1" larger than the bottom of the tupperware container. Bend that extra 1" downward so it can be used as 'feet', and place it over the perlite. Put your cakes on top of the wire mesh. Use the plexi glass as your top and to fan out CO2 every 2 days. Try to keep the water level in the perlite at about 1/4 inch, adding water to the perlite when the level goes below a quarter inch. After flushes, take the wire mesh out and set the cakes directly on the perlite for a day, then put the wire mesh back in and set the cakes on it.
