What are some good grain recipes for different species?

A summary of recipes for the creation of spawn or substrate using whole grains.

A summary of recipes for the creation of spawn or substrate using whole grains. You will get more information on using whole grains in the Whole grains section of this FAQ. These recipes are designed to be prepared in an one step process:
fill the ingredients in the jar, close the jar with a lid using a filter disc or a polyfill filter, pressure cook for 1 hour, shake the jar after pressure cooking (while the jars are still warm).
For more details on the preparation refer to the Whole grains section.

Important Notes: Widemouth jars are easier to work with than regular mouth jars, so try to get them if they are available in your area (or order them online if you desire to). The recipes below involve 2 different jar sizes. These sizes are quart size and pint size.
Half pint jars are generally too small for producing spawn or whole grain substrate, but they are excellent for the PF-Tek.

An Additional Word: The PF-Tek is the original method for making mycelium cakes. The PF Tek is great for the beginner, however , once you have managed the first steps of mushroom cultivation, it is a less ideal recipe compared to more effective recipes that we know of here at The Shroomery.
