The Green Buzz Bomb

I have done shrooms many times, but this experience was one of the strangest because a friend of mine and I apparently experienced the same hallucinations; that is, we kept on seeing the same things and having the same things happen to us!

I have done shrooms many times, but this experience was one of the strangest because a friend of mine and I apparently experienced the same hallucinations; that is, we kept on seeing the same things and having the same things happen to us!

Tom and I each ate about three grams of dried cubensis, and then another twenty grams of fresh shrooms plucked directly from the fungus cakes they were growing on... there were two women tripping with us that night, and they also consumed about the same amount of shrooms.

All of us went through the usual time/space warping, and all of us displayed the usual "shroom yawns", not to mention that strange, strange feeling of having one's brain "shifting gears" into that extraordinary state of mind we know as "tripping"... so far so good!

There was nothing extraordinary about any of this: we were experiencing things in sympatico primarily because our physiology as humans was similar enough to ensure that most of what was taking place was that which virtually anyone having eaten shrooms would experience...

The first indication that things were getting pretty weird came when Tom and I both noticed a gigantic lizard, about four feet long not including the tail, zipping across the wall of my living room, about six feet off the ground. Tom and I just looked at each other and simultaneously exclaimed "Holy shit! Did you see that?"

After that, we spent some time laughing and trying to figure out how and why it was that both of us saw this same absurd vision. We knew that it was obviously a hallucination because there are no lizards of such size as this in the area where we live, and it is doubtful that such a large creature could have run across a painted drywall surface in such a manner anyway. Still, neither one of us was overly mystified at having seen precisely the same thing at the same time, although after we came down we realized how unusual such an occurrence actually is. At the time, however, we more or less shrugged it off.

Things oozed along per usual, and since three people out of our party of four smoked cigarettes, the living room was starting to fill with smoke. It became a very unpleasant place to be. We decided, therefore, to go out onto the front lawn to enjoy some fresh air.

One of the two girls got scared just as soon as we got outside, claiming to be hearing the sounds that are made by creatures that eat time, as in the Stephen King story "The Langoliers"; and so, both women opted to head back inside.

As for myself, I was a bit taken aback by the sight of a large snake that had wrapped itself around the chimney on the roof of my house, and also by the two or three Mexican-looking fellows, complete with ponchos and sombreros, who sat on the roof watching us from above. Being either a fool or perhaps simply one of those really maleable souls, however, I again shrugged off the presence of these beings as the girls had already mentioned seeing them inside the house with us earlier that evening...

I was still gawking at the snake and its Mexican companions when Tom called my attention to the peculiar behavior of the shadows that were splashed across the front lawn-- shadows that were created by interplay of the bright moonlight, the clouds that were scuttling across the gorgeous deep blue sky, and the tree limbs that hung above our heads...

These shadows were doing some strange things, though... first, they were seeming to crawl around on the ground, but every so often one or more of them would assume a three dimensional shape and would sort of "grow" to become "tall". They looked sort of like little black ghosts dancing around all over the front lawn. At this point Tom and I both decided to stay on the concrete sidewalk and not to venture out onto the lawn itself, as the shadows on the sidewalk were behaving themselves and not doing strange things like growing and dancing around...

Just as we both started to feel comfortable with the shadows, however, Tom and I both noticed a very bright green glow out in the middle of my front lawn... it was the same greenish color that is made by cheap "glow in the dark" toys, just a bit brighter than that, though. The glow was actually bright enough to create a sort of greenish colored half-dome on the ground in the area in which it appeared...

Tom and I were bemused by this sight, and so we stood together and tried to figure out what it was. At first I thought it was a firefly, but I had never seen such a bright light coming from a firefly and never had seen a firefly create a greenish light. The fireflies around here seem to be more of a yellow light producing creature, but this light was a distinct kelly green...

As Tom and I stood on the sidewalk by my front door watching this glow, we saw the light sort of condense into a ball, the size of a golf ball or so... and then it began to rise into the air. Right about then, Tom asked me if I wanted to go back inside with the girls because this green ball of light seemed like it might be dangerous. Being a curious fool, I told Tom that he could go inside but that I wanted to see what the ball of light would do next.

Being a good friend, Tom then opted to stay outside with me, but I noticed that he seemed to be a bit afraid. I jokingly told Tom not to worry about the ball of light and said something stupid to the effect that I would kick the light ball's ass if it tried to mess with us...

That was a stupid thing to say! For as Tom and I stood watching, the ball began to drift towards us rather slowly, and now I was beginning to feel a bit afraid myself because the light ball was more or less making a bee line towards us...

Again Tom said something about going inside and it was then that the really churlish component of my personality reared its combative head and I told Tom, "There's no fucking way that I am gonna be run off by some stupid ball of light. Who the hell does it think it is, anyway?"

No sooner had these cocky words passed my lips when the ball of light, which had been drifting towards us very slowly, suddenly accelerated to a speed that was about as fast as a golf ball being driven by somebody who really knows how to hit one. The ball of light zipped between Tom and I so quickly that by the time we dove to either side in an attempt to escape being hit by it, it was already past us and had slowed back down to its original lazily drifting speed...

Tom and I picked ourselves up off the sidewalk and he said angrily, "Don't challenge the damned thing, Rob; I think that it can get us any time it wants." I had nothing to say in response, as I had seen how fast this green buzz bomb could travel when it wanted to, and was likewise of the opinion that I had annoyed it with my disrespectful comments...

We stood rooted to our spots on the sidewalk after that, and watched as the green orb floated away from us a bit further, and then began to spiral upward. It gained a height of about twenty feet or so above the ground and floated abeam us, more or less following the edge of my driveway.

When the ball of light got to the road, it began to float along the roadside, but still was about twenty feet in the air. It seemed like it was going to just float up the road and maybe disappear, but then, right as it hit my property line, the ball suddenly turned back inward, now floating above my front lawn.

I must admit that Tom and I were both rather frightened, because the ball of light was once again coming towards us, crossing my front yard diagonally. Although neither one of us is particularly sensitive, we were shivering and hugging one another as we watched it returning towards us, and this would probably have been an amusing sight had anyone chanced to see us. We looked like a couple of scared cartoon characters, right down to the chattering teeth...

Somehow or another, that ball of light seemed amused by our frightened antics, and just to give us a good jolt it once again picked up speed in a manner too sudden to describe adequately. However, it didn't buzz us the way it did the first time, opting instead to stop directly over the very spot where it had first appeared. It floated there for a moment or two, and then began a gentle spiral downward.

The green ball spiraled down until it landed, and once again it appeared to have created a green half-dome of light... and then, the light changed to a very soft yellow color that was somehow "powdery"...

It looked like the ball of light went underground after that, and then we were left with the shadows, which for some reason had ceased their dancing... although they still looked pretty strange, they had resumed their two-dimensional hame and no longer looked like little ghosts.

Tom and I realized that we were hugging one another still, and more or less pushed ourselves apart. Both of us began to laugh hysterically...

We started to discuss what had just happened, but then Tom told me to stop talking, that we would wait to talk about it after we had both come down. It was very hard for us to believe that we had both seen the very same, utterly strange things and we wanted to wait to compare notes once we had resumed our normal state of consciousness...

I looked up at the roof of my house; the Mexicans and the snake were no longer there. Tom and I went back into the house and the girls told us that the Mexicans had been inside with them for a while, hanging around by a pair of French doors in the dining room; at one point, one of these Mexicans had also gone over to the refrigerator and stood there for a while, peering at the ladies. Neither one of the girls said they were frightened by these visitors, but rather, the Mexicans seemed like they were there to protect them and so the girls merely chatted with one another while they waited for Tom and I to come back into the house.

The next day we all compared our recollections of this experience: not a single detail of what any of us had seen and done differed from one another's account...

Ya never really do know what the hell's going on, do ya?
