Re: Re: i have no idea
in my short time here at the forum i have seen several instances where you have given advice and corrected errors of others in such a way that would inspire them to continue their educational pursuits.in the past, i was prohibited from pointing out the specific instances due to my minimal number of posts but this post reminded me of others i had seen from you. many times in this electronic medium people tend to be heavy handed and insensitive, sometimes exceptionally rude where in real life, face to face, i doubt they would be so bold... you, however, give me hope that the race isnt entirely doomed to stupidity and rudeness... thank you.

This is just a test. Next season I'm going to go frickin industrial with the woodlover production. Instead of making artificial beds I'm going to scout for potential locations where wooden debris and/or wood chips are already present. I know of a huge park here where they have tons of hardwood chips around newer trees. Literally hundreds of potential habitats. I'll make a ton of spawn in mycobags, go on a hike and inoculate the chips with the crumbled spawn. I am planning on doing P. azurescens, P. cyanescens and P. subaeruginosa. Maybe P. cyanofriscosa, too, if I can get my hand on a print soon enough.
keep up the good work

German Kahuna said: I guess it has to do with a vegetative phase it is going through. It's apparently not the same for all species. Some occur in Spring and Fall. Obviously this is not the case with P. semilanceata. There needs to be an extended warm period where the mycelium grows and taps into new sources of nutrients. P. semilanceata can't go from more or less dormant state (during the cold winter months) to the fruiting stage right away. Once the temperatures are right, the mycelium starts to spread and does so all through Spring and way into Summer. The more moist it is the better, especially for P. semilanceata, which loves pastures around moors, lakes and marshland. Once the temperature drops below a certain temperature for a certain period of time (what you achieve through cold shocking when growing cold climate species indoors) the fruiting is triggered and hyphal knots are formed which will grow into pins and eventually mature fruit bodies. I am aware of the fact that I cannot answer your question about why this vegetative phase is actually needed sufficiently, but it seems to be a fair guess to assume that it actually is.
