Quick question from a noobie?

Hey guys, hows everyone doin? Anyways, Im new to the forums, but have been looking at this website for ages and kind of ninjaing my way around so to speak. =D. But lets cut to the chase, I recently ordered my spores from Ralphsters, and they should be arriving within the next week, hopeful by the end of this week. And the guide that Im going off of is the Magic Mushrooms Growers Guide () And I was just wondering if anyone else has used this? I ordered Puerto Ricans and hopefully the z strain of the month comes with it as advertised on the forums. =D It was a great deal and I couldnt pass it up!
Anyway, I was planning on growing with the Basic Growing Chamber. IE: The Styrofoam cooler, and I was going to hand mist for humidity. My question though, is How many cakes do you guys, if you have done this method before, will be able to fit into the cooler? Because, I was going to inoculate about 10 jars. .2ccs per/hole per/jar. Getting roughly around 10 jars. Which would be around 10 cakes. I was wondering if 10 would fit in the terrarium? or if I should make roughly 6 cakes and inject more ccs per/hole per/jar??
And my last question is that, if Ralph does give me the free z strain, Id have 2 10cc syringes with 2 different strains. Would I be able to grow the two different types of strains in the same terrarium? I dont think I would be able to but Im just making sure? Thanks so much in advance guys! Peace and love.

Hi and Welcome!
My terrarium is like 30"w x 20"h x 20"d and I can get 12 cakes in there, it's a tote box as in the mushroom vids, you will need good fresh air exchange, so be sure to allow your babies to breathe. And you should be good to go to grow diff strains in the same tub, I have and have never had issues..
GL with the grow!

Thanks a lot hood! Much appreciated. Question though, do you use a Styrofoam tub? Or do you use a plastic cooler? Also, is the guide that I posted in my first post a good guide to go off of or is there better? I just don't want to mess up at all. I'm a perfectionist and the littlest things get to me, bad. =( I hate it. Lol. Thanks for your response!

Hi new guy, welcome aboard. I'm not sure how good a styrofoam cooler is going to work for you, I'm not saying it cant, but if you could spend a few bux your better off with a plastic container. Start off by watching these videos. http://www.mushroomvideos.com These are the best teks to follow for beginners and pros alike. Again, Welcome and happy growing.

Well your setup is beautiful, But your youtube advise is frowned upon by many on here. the link I gave is the official link for RR and Roadrage's video. And anyone serious about mycology should also buy it as RR lost his ass on making that great vid. Not to mention his wife has cancer and their bills are stacking up! fuck youtube! http://www.mushroomvideos.com Dont mean to sound like a hard ass But others are going to say the same thing.

Probably the best advice I can give you is to ditch the incubator concept and just keep your jars at room temperature on a shelf.
One of the most common misconceptions is that you need to get your jars at 86f. 70-75f is much, much better. I see a couple posts a week about people's jars not colonizing or colonizing ultra slow and that's usually why.

Lemme ask you something? Because I've been seeing a lot of pictures with their cults in baking tray/tins. Is that tray a FULL cake? Or is it a bunch of multiple cakes? I have looked around to try and find out, but maybe I'm just blind? Any help?

it's a few cakes that i spawned to coir.. in otherwords, i waited for cakes to colonize in jars and broke them up into smaller pieces.. i got the tins from a local store for storing food in, i incubated them after spawning pf tek cakes, with the lids on and a couple holes in the top with a verm layer for the buffer, but as it was a poor mans style, they really only lasted 2 flushes, if you're looking to spawn, the search has some great teks for that, but as you're still learning, go with cakes to begin with and as you get the hang of it, you can experiment...

I've been watching the Mushroomvideos.com Tutorials for the last.. ~40 minutes, and it's amazing, thanks to whoever posted it. I'm going to do exactly that! Just another small silly question though.. Is there a specific perlite that is better than others? What Do I place the cakes on to separate them from the perlite inside the terrarium? And lastly, again I am cultivating with Puerto Rican and hopefully 'z' strain for my first grows. Would it be a smarter choice to colonize puerto ricans first, and than z strain later? Or should I do both in the same terrarium on different cakes? Thanks guys! I'm just not sure as to how they will handle if they get too close to eachother? For instance if the PR's will take over the 'z's or what would happen if anything? Thanks guys!
PS: I read somewhere that if you touch any spot on the cake that is colonizing that it will not yield shroom at that point? Is that true? Because in the videos on mushroomvideos.com he stated to rinse the cakes after birthing. I'm confused now.

You can elevate your cakes with almost anything to keep them off the perlite. I've seen everything from glass saucers to canning jar rings used.
Perlite is perlite, but larger "nuggets" are less messy.
You can place any combination of cubensis strains together in your fruiting chamber at the same time with no problem whatsoever.

You would place foil squares in the terrarium and place the cakes on top of each, all perlite is the same, hydrate it and it'll give relative humidity... as for the cakes, make up jars, you choose the number and either inoculate half of the jars with the PR and the other 5 jars with Z, they'll live happily side by side in the terrarium:)
I man handle my cakes to a minimum, but they do inevitably get bruised, they will yeild either way and i thinks it's a fable they wont grow as I never have any issues and always ~ 6-7Oz wet each flush from 6 cakes a time.. - I took 2Oz wet weight this morning, 3rd flush from two of my cakes... They're blue all over.

Thanks so much guys, this is truly an amazing forum with very amazing and helpful people! =D I'll do 5 and 5 than, I'll have to eyeball the container when I buy one and see how many I could possibly fit. Is the blue coloration bad? It's bruising correct? SO many questions I feel helpless. =\ Another.. Is there an average distance the cakes should be spaced from eachother within the terrarium? Or it is just enough so they have enough room to fruit?

Even though it's in the fruiting stage, mycelium will eat through aluminum, especially something as thin as foil.

Bruising isnt too bad, but too much and unclean methods can lead to problems, just be kind to them:)
