well after 2 years of drug infused rediculousness, I'm slowly starting to come down and want to live a sober life,
but how?
What the fuck do people do to pass time?

take a walk
organize and clean house
cook
make money
take a bath
study astronomy
listen to podcasts
and then after you've done all you can do, go socialize
you will find people are drugs in and of themselves

I've been pricecely there. Truth is, they are not a double-edged sword. They merely make you question all the boring bullshit you have come to accept as the standart of living. Key is to work on transforming your daily life into one that excites you, try to figure out what it is you want to accomplish in this life according to your own personal interests, and concentrate on getting there. I find my friends who are sober, and my drug using friends are very similar, we do the same things, just one has drugs, and the others don't.

It seems like a dishonest life.
I enjoy sobriety just as much as drugs, as long as i'm occupied.
My boredom can be filled with drugs, which is definitely not good for business.

Unit, when I was 10, even though life was hard, the pressures and truth of the world hadn't gotten to me in full quite yet. Not to mention I could play all the time.
Drugs helped ease my pain, and coming off of them made the world more painful.
Just my two pennies.

This has always been my solution. I'm a psychologist at heart and from my own psychedelic trips, I'd say from my soul.
I've been sober since school started up again, and I have to say, I make a lot less 'stupid' errors. The ones where you know better, but slip up because of a lack of concentration. I'm more focused on accomplishing my goals then I ever was prior, and I've never been heavy into drugs. I've always been driven to accomplish my goals though, to pursue a career and make changes in the system from the inside, and with a fuller understanding of the system itself, rather than attempting to shout (what may be ignorance) from the outside.
It's easy to sit back and criticize the world before you're even waist deep in it. Early experiences do paint a picture, but don't let it dictate your life. There are so many experiences out there, many of which I myself have yet to even touch. If you don't want to seek them out, they're not going to come knocking.

There is NOTHING wrong with using drugs, just slowly find things that you enjoy to do in life. Be it with drugs or without, you only get one life, and your right, all things are pointless, our lives really do mean nothing, so go ahead, have any kind of fun you want.

People with psychological disorders are effected differently by drugs. For example, I'm bi-polar. In a euphoric phase, I'm motivated and in a good mood, for the most part. When I hit a low for no reason, I seriously feel like doing absolutely nothing. That's what depression does. I could get back on my medication that turns me into an emotional zombie, making it to where I don't feel sad or happy, or I could take my dose of herb throughout the day and be a happy camper, motivated to cook at work, culinary arts being my passion that I'm pursuing. Due to my psychological state, I can choose to ride an emotional roller coaster sober, become numb to every emotion and still not feel like doing much, or dance with Mary Jane and feel happy doing daily activities. That's an obvious choice for me.
My whole point is that drugs affect people differently. Don't call the ones that use drugs to achieve satisfaction with life "sad." Walk a few months in my shoes sober and try not to pull your hair out. Anger and depression will eat you alive, man. I'm not saying smoking pot to medicate is any different than taking a prescription, but it produces a different feeling. One that I can function in the world so much better with. So don't knock me or anyone else in the same boat, for it, regardless of the drug.

You're leaving out an option: Psychotherapy
If it's biological depression, they would probably pop you back on the anti-depressants, but that's just to get you out of that state where you don't want to do anything, and are more responsive to talk therapy. Not a permanent solution. Psychologists generally don't agree with a medical model view of disorders.
This isn't directed only to you, and I don't really know your reasons for what you do, but I thought I'd throw that out there. There is help for individuals who don't like pharmaceutical drugs.

Meditation could help. It doesn't really deal with the boring bullshit of everyday sober life and is quite time consuming and has great benefits. In a way its like doing some of your brains drugs, which you're on all the time lol.
What the fuck is "sober" anyway. You're always on a steady dose of dopamine, serotonin and all the other neurotransmitters.

I stare at the sun. Its kinda cool for the first coupla minutes. If you want to have lots of fun stare at the sun with a telescope. You can see god. at least until your eyes catch fire.

yeah, you get your exercise with dodging cars. I also like shaving off chunks of my arm with a cheese grater. It leaves these keen little holes all over me. Its the bees knees.

One thing i just thought of.
When it comes to living your life.
There's a big difference between getting high and being a slave to the drug.
The people who aren't slaves are more likely to do the same thing as sober people.

i used to envy sober people, then i thought about my friend psychedelics. Because never have i been hangin out with psy and thought "i wish i never met this dude) all the other drugs i have at least said that about once in my life.

At first it is. But enthusiasm can carry you through the first few months when you are still changing your habits. After that it's harder to be unproductive than it is to be productive.
But my life was a hell of a lot harder when I expected drugs to make it good.
It's not that drugs ruin your life, but if you let weed or other drugs satisfy you, then you make that drug high the ceiling in your life. It creates an invisible barrier because you lose the desire for something better. There are way way better highs and they do not involve drugs.
Just because something is hard doesn't mean there is any reason at all that you shouldn't do it.

I feel the same way since I tripped for the first time recently. A couple trips actually.
Now the only thing I have going in my mind all the time is music music music. Im going to try to play guitar again. In my pre-trip state of being I was too impatient and gave up too easily, I didn't want to devote so much time to it to get good. Now its like an obsession, I don't care how long it takes for me to get decent. Shrooms really brought out my creative side, and they really have seemed to improve my coordination as well, which will be a big help.
So I guess what im trying to say is focus on whatever interests you the most.

I love the effort. Drugs kinda take that away for me. The fact that you can feel so good, right even, without much work, makes the grind all the more difficult. When a man is on, he loves the grind. (My opinion of course)

I believe we all have "given" gifts, and knacks for things that come naturally, whereas other people would have to work their asses off to get to the level that we do with ease. I think you just have to find your thing and hopefully its not something bad like killing folks.

It just depends what you're happy with. Sometimes I've been happy to be perfectly at rest, which some would call being lazy, but that's their opinion and not mine.
There have been times where all I want is the grind, work, working out, nose to the grindstone, and people seem to admire that more, but still, that's THEIR opinion.
And there have been those in between times, where being high isn't paying off and it's time to chance. And on the other hand, there are times where I've just had enough, and it's time to check out.
The thing is, we're all screwed by the former world's created perceptions. We hardly stop to think that the paradigms that we are supposed to live by were conjured up in years past by people who are for the most part now dead and don't even truly represent the whole spectrum of the human experience.

Haha I have a few things I'm really good at, but I've kind of just got over them, and now I seem lost, hopefully I'll find something soon though.

do you play music pfxtc? i feel like you have gained all this understanding from psychedelics and you seem ready to apply it. Its like you got a brain all dressed up with no place to go. That is half the battle, finding a purpose that you feel in your soul that drives you. Mine is music and communion with my friends and my son. I didnt have these before. In fact I was homeless for 3 years, 3 long suicidal years. The only thing that freed me from it was realizing that I was bigger than the life that was dragging me down.

I hear that. I'm a little older than most of the group, and I grew up in the lifestyle, so I have a fair amount of experience. The one thing that I heard growing up, and now know to be true, is that when that voice calls us to try these things, it's usually pretty easy to go with it. But when that same voice says it's time for a break, a lot of us struggle. I did.
Maybe that's not precisley what you're going through, but you got to trust yourself and go full steam ahead. It sounds corny, but the faster you run for the wall, the sooner you'll make it over.

Alright, well then, you gotta do some sober soul searching and ask, "knowing me, what would I want if I could have it. Where would I go, who would I become".
Drugs are a tool. Somehow they end up becoming a way of life.

Man, right now i have been trying to use these intense feelings that i have had to fuel my music. Feeling can transform a mediocre song into a masterpeice. People love that kind of stuff. People have a subconcious connection with music.
You will get a foothold on something greater soon pfxtc, but dont ever settle for good enough. Blending in and trying to be part of society never distinguished anybody. Normal is not for people like us. Normal is for the sheep of the world. To quote Salvador Dali
In order to acquire a growing and lasting respect in society, it is a good thing, if you possess great talent, to give, early in your youth, a very hard kick to the right shin of the society that you love. After that, be a snob.
I quoted this because I believe anything less than the best would prove to be dull and thus wouldnt fulfill you and drive you.

I know what you mean about the music thing, reminds me of Hendrix. One of my goals in life is to be able to express something through music, so I'll get started on that soon. And I relate perfectly the to "best of" mentality, kind of strange how you said that, I've always had a "best of" mentality, which is one of my downfalls I think, maybe I'm just looking at it the wrong way, and striving to be the best isn't a bad thing after all.

No problem. A lot of us, as you can tell, have been there.
Just be easy on yourself, no judgments, and learn to recognize the voices that are only there to harm you, "this won't work" "life is no fun anymore" "you're a burnout", whatever they may be for you. We all have them.
You're not your thoughts or your emotions, the REAL you is far beyond that. Like WhiskeyClone said, you don't have to do any of this, learning to see these huge steps in your life as a "want" will help put you back in control of you.

I mean honestly, would you rather gauge yourself on looking at people who are your age that you grew up with and their success, or maybe the success and prestige of a truly awesome person? I think about this alot. I believe the greatest people just stuck to a mindset and stood for their purpose, and not just settled in like a sheep. Its one of those things where if you have your own ideals and values and thoughts and base your life on them well, it makes for alot of peace inside. Bad vibes are everywhere, but the best ones i have found come from inside. dont let anybody tell you different. its in there. the only thing that keeps you from pursuing it is all the doubt life puts in your mind. Be what you are. and be great.

I believe that if you believe in yourself, and go out there with your own intentions, and dont let off. you will overcome. Like whattheheck said, if you keep runnin at the wall sooner or later you will get over, no matter how high that wall is.
And being tired from working at a goal is just as fulfilling as getting in a good workout. At the end you have this refreshing feeling of progress. You might feel very frustrated at times, but that all passes. Set a small goal for each day and work at that if you have time. Eventually the Larger goal will come into reach.
It has been said, If you don't like how life is playing out, pick up your needle and jam to a different groove.

Try jail a few times, try probation, fuck that up, go to jail again, then I guarantee you will find out how sober people have fun. Thankfully I learned a valuable lesson about drugs; just keep doing 'em!
