I'm not making a comparison.
I'm saying that you CAN judge groups of people by the actions of few. We do it every day.
Plus... how many hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people have died as a direct result of the drug war over the past several decades? The US has the largest prison population, as well as the highest percentage of the population in prison, in the world. We also have property seizure rates as high as Nazi Germany.
Why shouldn't I be able to make the comparison?

Let's pretend I'm a cop getting paid a yearly salary, with no bonuses for busting real criminals. Should I risk my life going after a murderer/rapist, who would rather die then go to jail and most likely are armed and ready to kill. Or, on the other hand, I can bust some harmless pot smokers and get my dick sucked by my fellow officers for "getting criminals off the street."
Damn thats a tough choice...
That is the stupidest conjecture I have ever seen. Show me evidence that police routinely let murderers go or don't care about murders. Whenever there is a murder in my city police cruisers, detectives, and helicopters rush to the scene. It's a big deal.
Fucking dipshit.

Gee, I wonder how many of you here don't like the way all drug users are lumped together and judged based on the actions of a few completely retarded people who use them irresponsibly and get them outlawed. I know I don't like it. I agree with OP. Judging every single police officer based on the actions of some is very stupid. Sure, some are very corrupt and downright awful human beings who should be in prison with the people they are arresting. Some are also great people who are doing their job and for the most part, making this world a safer place by putting away dangerous people.

Of course it is done. That doesn't make it accurate. Let me throw out a statistic for you:
By 2000, 9.6 percent of black men … were incarcerated."
Should I judge all black males based on that statistic?

You virulent pro-druggees always blow shit like that out of proportion like it has been some kind of holocaust. What a fucking joke. Millions?!?! Prove it. Millions have died because of fatty food, automobiles, and tobacco but not because of the drug war.

Why not focus on Muslim countries that put you in prison for life or cut your head off for getting caught with a joint? Seems their drug laws are much harsher than ours. And, we're not talking about the laws. We are talking about the men and women who serve as police officers. The vast majority of them are decent people.

You and #1 are judging the whole group of cops on the actions of only a few who are ok. It goes both ways you know, you and #1 are also making generalizations.
edit - like this...
Quote:
The vast majority of them are decent people.
This is a baseless generalization.

I realize that in the social circles that most of the posters here reside in (potheads, couch surfers, 20-somethings still living with their parents, wannabe-rastas, and losers in general) the consensus for drug legalization is probably quite high. But, amongst most people it is not the majority opinion.
According to the poll, just 29% of respondents support general legalization of marijuana, while 69% are opposed.
Seems pretty clear cut to me.

The fact is all currently employed law enforcement officers willingly use force (lethal or otherwise) to deny the citizenry of our inalienable rights. This makes them the enemy, whether you use drugs or not.

Ok, I admit this was a generalization. I was going on my own experiences and the knowledge that these people go to work every day and face physical danger in the effort to maintain safety in our communities.
I should not have generalized like that. However, the anti-cop people should not generalize either.

Turn the other cheek, bro. Our inalienable rights originally hail from a little thing called doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Violence does not solve anything.

So there has never been any officer who has let someone slide after catching them with drugs? Or breaking some other equally pointless law. I'm opposed to any law prohibiting me from doing what i like with my body. Just because there are such laws, that doesn't mean every single officer enforces them.

No cop is going to blow you away because you are holding a bong. I might also add that they will be the first to the scene trying to help you if some bad stuff happens around you or to you.
And, they are enforcing laws based on what your fellow citizens wanted. Blame the citizens who elected the officials who made the laws.

#9 is an idiot, how the hell can you make a generalization saying all of a certain type of people are bad when its based on occupation???
I agree mostly with the op, that is to say I do not entirely agree.
Cops as people are definitely mostly good hard working decent people and I base that generalization on the fact that most people are good hard working decent people.
The thing that you need to understand, #1, is that when you play a game of hockey with your friends, regardless of how good friends you are, the other team is the enemy.
Right now, drugs are illegal, and you are a criminal for choosing to break the law, and it is the police officer's job to catch criminals, period. They may mostly be good decent people, but as far as this game is concerned they are the enemy. That's the bias on here, don't talk to cops when you are being arrested because they are your enemy! You probably smoke weed daily as most of us on here do, and so you break the law on a daily basis, they will be your enemy on a daily basis

Why should we not generalize? My ancestors died defending my rights; this includes my right to generalize and other right's that law enforcement routinely denies me. That is not a generalization, that is a fact.
My personal experience include (but isn't limited too) being arrested, having the cops lie, and getting convicted. I have personally never had a good experience with the police; not when they are oppressing me and not when I call on them for help and they do nothing.

I've never had legal troubles. All of my friends who have have had the cops lie on the police report to trump up the charges. All of them.
