I dunno. I came off sounding way to ignorant and shitty to get the point across I was tryin to get.
Just got frustrated with the ignorance of most on the site....and took that frustration and turned it into stupidity.........
However I think that stupidity helped bring about some very good ideas as to "sprucing" up registration........
It wouldn't be a terrible thing to just TRY invite only for a bit, or any of the other suggestions.....and I'd be more then willing to help on a registration test....

Exactly- invite systems are stupid online. How hard is it to get a demonoid invite? Not hard at all. Unless you actually know the person the invite system is worthless. I would never have started posting here if I needed an invite to do so. Some probably would have preferred that, but I think alot of folks are like me and wouldn't have bothered.
And given the ability of this site to exist in its current form is probably living on borrowed time anyways, it probably isn't that great of an idea to limit the content and revenue at the moment.

I have been involved with a few different forums from the beginning that have blown up and we've had to balance how much of a community the site becomes, or how much of a business. I ended up leaving another site because it turned into a business and almost completely lost the community in the beginning, so this topic is actually sort of dear to my heart.
That said, I believe that the Shroomery is doing a good job at balancing community vs. business... better than many forums. You have to remember, that you always have the ignore function. I don't think being a private site would be a good idea, but I do think that maybe some sort of "community asshole warning system" could be in place to help guide people off of personal attacks. I think the content is here, people are just attacking each other too much and forgetting, or not understanding, that there is a big group people here that actually know each other in real life.

There is a warning system in place .....Its called RATINGS ,but this has been made a mockery of by the OTD crowd.
If it was not for the abuse of the system already in place it would work fine.
Perfect example ....OTD gets thier panties in a bunch and decides to declare war on somebodies ratings,leaving porn/scat/rasism etc,meanwhile completely undermining the point of having a ratings system.
I assume thats the entire reason to have a ratings system ,not as a playground for the immature.....

Exactly... I think that a reform of the ratings would be good, and maybe even some sort of special troll notification written to new members explaining to them not to be an asshole, make them read the whole thing, scroll down, and accept it. Maybe selected people can send it, or anyone can give it out (but it would only send it to them once or twice, then notify a moderator or something).
I don't know, I usually don't give a fuck, and I like forums to be as liberal as possible, but I completely understand where Vandago is coming from about people personally attacking you. It can be very frustrating. Butttttt, on the other hand, you have to remember that everyone is family and we gotta educate the world.

It seems to me you have the belief that just because someone is a new poster they are less valuable. As stated before I and many other members made less valuable posts when we registered, but over time learned how to participate and help the community. Perhaps having this better than thou mentality will hinder your argument, because it seems like this topic keeps hitting the same wall.

it's hitting the same wall because most of them are nitpicking on the less important things (IMHO)
there is a quality issue and it's going to get worse and worse, it's not about repetitiveness (that's to be expected and is an ever present part both here and in life) it's about the quality and the spirit with which people choose to deal with this.
probably this is not what vandago was trying to say... but that's what *i'm saying*.
there are things to do and there is merit to this discussion...
i'm still waiting for one of the admins to give some sort of feedback (hopefully to what i was writing)
