i'm in the mood for some spacey, thought provoking, emotionally stimulating ambient tunes.
whether they are haunting, uplifting, melancholy, etc.. doesn't matter to me.
i really dig these two brian eno songs to give you an idea..
deep blue day
and
an ending
so..
any recommendations for me?

You've got a great start with Brian Eno. He's done some of the best ambient work IMO, but I have a lot more searching to do in this genre.
I really like Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works albums. 1 & 2 both are great, but they are electronic oriented compared to Eno. Still great with many moods throughout the albums. If you can't find a link I can upload em for you.
This video has short clips of most the songs on the second ambient works album.

for some amazing psybient check out Solar Fields - Leaving Home Solar Fields - Extended Solar Fields - Movements (to be released in a week) you can watch the preview for this album
Carbon Based Lifeforms - Hydroponic Garden here's one of the tracks from this album:
Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers again one track from this album:
for some IDM/ambient check out Kettel - My Dogan Subheim - Approach

I am endlessly obsessed with "An Ending"...
More along the Eno lines, Boards of Canada's "Olson" (A video I uploaded of a train ride through Germany)
Here's two songs by Telefon Tel Aviv
"Sound in a Dark Room" (Headphones and drug use preferred on this one)
"Fahrenheit Fair Enough"

Aphex Twin's 'Selected Works' is awesome and I love the Colleen recommendation. I don't download illegally, but I'll go pick up that cd soon. Thanks!

Awesome video, Amon Tobin is ridiculous. Bridge is my favorite song.
Radiohead's "Hunting Bears". One of my all time favorite songs
M83's "In Church" (Also check out Cyan and Ben's acoustic remix, it's incredible, but not on youtube)
Here's another "ambient" tune, more funky though.. Beastie Boy's "Namaste"

I have never heard music that is thought provoking before. I like pretty much anything by Aphex Twin. That may be a cliche reply but I have liked Aphex Twin's music for a long time. Selected Ambient Works 85 - 92 and Selected Ambient Works II are very nice and light.

I would have to say the orb is probably the best. I just let three albums roll. From Bicycles & Tricycles, to Cydonia, and The Dream. Also I was thinking The Fleet Foxes for some kinda "folky" trance. Space out kid!

Wow I completely forgot to add this to my previous post. I wanted to recommend going on your iTunes and downloading some free podcasts for trance music. It's pretty simple, it's free, and you find a lot of new up-and-coming bands/groups.
