Why do OTD people talk about rating rape, i have not once talked about ratings raped. Read my posts you lazy bastards i don't give a fuck about ratings. Supporter accounts being ruled by the OTD, STFU #21, if all the trolls in the OTD left the shroomery it would just be a better place. I know i don't have to go into OTD, but i do Allllll the time.

Comments like that sound awfully presumptuous. How do you know what the site was made for? OTD was one of the original forums, created right along with Mushroom Cultivation. Maybe you don't see the benefits of having an unrestricted forum, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

I dislike OTD primarily because it is a haven for excusing malice under the guise of Internet anonymity.
Anytime someone complains about how their ratings got raped, the traditional and cliched defense is to argue that "these are teh Interwebz and general ratings don't mean anything." More to the point, why do you feel it necessary to rate someone poorly in the first place? Do you garner satisfaction from inflicting pain on others?
Sure, you can argue that nothing means anything anyway online. But general ratings do mean something: they are a reflection of people's online reputation. It's a mark of how trustworthy a poster you are, and a mark of how credible the information is that you post. By ratings raping someone, you are in effect slandering their reputation; an action punishable by law offline and just as inexcusable online.
The psychedelic experience opens up people's eyes to the beauty of the natural world and lets them be empathetic towards their fellow man. OTD does nothing but degrade the community just because it can, and reinforces the childish justification that this is OK simply because it's possible to do. Should all children pull the wings off flies just because they can?
I'm fine with OTD's incessant scat pictures, clique-ish posting, and unfunny humor. I'm not fine with OTD carrying out a campaign of slander and libel against other posters for no reason whatsoever.

If you say something that I don't know if it's true or not (let's say, that 5-HTP crosses the blood brain barrier when 5-HT does not), your general rating will most assuredly affect my likelihood to believe your information until I'm bothered to scour through the information myself in an attempt to verify what you said.
The goal of this website is to stop the spread of misinformation about psychedelic mushrooms and other psychoactives. Ratings are valuable in this way because they provide an easy way to determine the trustworthiness of a poster... or at least they did until OTD selfishly screwed it up for everyone else for nothing but an opportunity to jump on the bandwagon and get satisfaction from putting down someone else.
