recently ive been getting panic attacks. its happened before about a year or 2 ago and its usually at the same place, work or when im around alot of people. it seems wierd because i usually dont have any problem talking to or being around people. im getting tired of it and i want to see a doctor about it. ive read that docs are starting to prescribe anti depressants for panic attacks and, i dont want to go on them beacuse im not depressed and, ive tried them before when i was depressed and they make me feel like a zombie. anyone know any other meds or any tips for panic attacks? i know theres xanax and other downers like that but i dont really wanna bring that up to a doc and just seem like a junkie trying to get high.

I am currently on anti-depressants for anxiety. Its a very low dose. I am not depressed either, but the two conditions work hand in hand. Anxiety is a vicious loop. Without therapy or medication, there is only breathing techniques and meditation. You can feel free to go on the downers, but that will only help temporarily should you go into a panic attack. You will still continue to have panic attacks and will most likely develop an addiction.

I'm on 75mg of Effexor which works quites well I also take Klonopin when needed but the Effexor on a low dose is fine, but when it's time to ween off the withdrawls suck but can be minimized with benzos, exercise and diet. Since you suffer from anxiety I wouldn't go over 75mgs, anything higher and you notice weight gain, sexual dysfunction, etc...Anxiety is one of the worst feelings in the world.

just ask them for xanax. You need it and you won't sound like a junkie. They don't really even make you high.
Don't try anti-depressants, they suck and don't work in my opinion and just have bad side effects.

I recommend the book "Hope and Help for Your Nerves", by Dr. Claire Weekes.

On what part? If you mean asking for xanax, well he didn't give it to me at first. He had me try a different benzo (klonopin) which really doesn't work at all for me.
Then he also had me try the anti-depressant lexapro which didn't help for anxiety or depression. The side effects were dry mouth, constipation, weight gain, and it was very difficult to fall asleep on them.
So I went back and asked him If I could have xanax because I tried someone elses once before a year ago and it worked pretty well. So now he give's me 90 2mg Xanax XR to last me 3 months each visit.

So do you still have to take the xanax? Did you try other antidespressants or just lexapro? Are you trying to fix your problem or just disguise it?

I also tryed the anti-depressant Cymbalta...didn't do shit except give me those same side effects I said in the previous post.
I still take the xanax occasionally because it's the only legal drug that helps at all.
I already know There's nothing that can fix my problem. It's not a chemical imbalance that makes me depressed anyway, it's just life sucks in general. Maybe if I won the lottery my problems would mostly be fixed. So yeah all I can do is disguise it.

went to the dr today got a script for 15 xanax and lexipro which i think is an anti depressent. i got the xanax only $6 but the lexipro was $92 and i really cant afford that.the dr was kinda unwilling to prescribe the xanax saying that it was only treating the symptoms and not solving the problem.

yeah lexapro is an anti-dpressant, but lexapro won't solve the problem either and for $92! fuck that. I'd say stick with the xanax.

I had panic attacks for a while after experimenting a lot with DXM as a teenager. I was prescribed a bunch of different meds and they didn't seem to really help, one even made things worse(Paxil). I decided to start doing a lot of meditation, which I think really lowered my stress levels. also I used to get panic attacks every time I smoked weed, but I smoked anyway. I learned to control my stress and shortly I could calm myself down from an attack within maybe 5 minutes, and eventually I was able to stop them from occurring. I think if you do some meditation and really try to take over control of your stress you'll be able to get rid of it. honestly, I think this is a much better route than medication. Another note, I tripped on acid a few times which may have done something. I've heard of people ridding themselves of anxiety disorders from using acid or other psychedelics, but everyone is different so I don't really want to recommend it.

Hell no don't do that. That stuff can cause temporary psychosis and terrifying panic attacks. I would never recommend using psychedelics to treat anxiety.

im gonna dig out my rx insurance card... its around here somewhere... it should bring the price for the lexipro way down. ill give it a try along with getting back to exercising. ive been reading that lexipro has got less side effects than other anti depressants.

Medication is a complex subject. It seems to me that psychedelics and pharmacueticals as "tools" are mutually exclusive at this point in history. I wouldn't try to go down both paths at once. Its an opinion worth considering, but good luck to you, whatever you end up doing.

Its about weighing out the risks and the benefits. My lexapro script costs me 20$ so money isn't a factor. My doctor says I only need to be on them for 3-6 months to correct this problem. Many of the illicit drugs can cause anxiety. Even marijuana. Don't ever try to self cure a brain disorder with drugs.

I'd say the only illegal drug that can help anxiety is opiates. But the risk of addiction is dangerous.
