My brain has become a mycelial substrate
    #9309785 - 11/25/08 12:04 PM (4 years, 5 months ago)

And I miss finding the little buggers, who knew such a depression could be caused by a lack of wild mushrooms?

Ok, well not a depression, but it certainly would cheer me up to find some fungus. Seems like things are slowing down for the winter and that makes me

I'm not really sure what the point of this post is, maybe just to express my woe at the ending of the season.

It's been fairly dry lately but I figured there would be at least something in the well mulched areas of the forests. So I went out today and did a little splunking around and once again found nothing but some wood fungus.

We have snow on the ground up here. The season is definitely over. I've never got into mushroom hunting, but would love to. When I hiked the long trail end to end last summer I saw 1000 different types of mushrooms. Next summer I'll try to do some identification.

dont worry , you gonna start dreaming , in the dry season i notice my dream with mushrooms get more enhaced , you may think it may not help  but it will help you a lot , once you be a good mushroom dreamer there is no one who can stop you .

i will start making cultures of all i can , and giving a chance to writhe all i can about this season.

last year was more dificult to superate , this dry transition, , so far iam good .......so i do understand .. but i have lot of ways to travel back in time like 2 kilos of posibilities.

I'm not sure about finding actives this late... maybe some cubes, but I'd be happy to find any mushrooms at all.

Yeah, yuck it up motherfuckers!

Today I was thinking about Beege whining about only finding stinkhorns in the garden.  I decided I would go out tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day morning, and find a few mushrooms to photograph and bring back here.  And all the while Beege was bitchin' I remembered you talking about finding weilii in dry weather.  Something about last year there was NO rain and .........

Now, I can't promise you I will find a delicious edible, but I can promise you I will find some mushrooms--GUARANDAMNTEE!

Beege, you might not find actives but you never know until you look.  If it were me I would make it a habit of looking out of season just so I could brag about finding them.  You said you found stinkhorns and polypores.  Those are mushrooms.  Maybe they're not exciting to you but they are mushrooms.

Next year, I am going to focus more on jellies, brackets and a few others I have never paid attention to--just to learn more.

I go into the woods with an attitude of "what can I find?"  (other than specific hunts for specific quarry)  I am endlessly, hopelessly curious about my fungal friends.  I want to know everything I can about them.  I hunt for them as if I have lost the most precious thing I ever had, and RARELY am I disappointed.  I always find something.  I believe it is my attitude and my approach that allows me to find things no one else can find, or rarely find.

I'm not bragging here.  I'm just explaining my passion and trying to offer a little advice on how to find the fuckers.

It's one of the reasons I am here.

It was two days ago.  I got up at 2 am today so it seems like yesterday to me.

ah yes I remember now. It threw me off because I thought it was in this thread

anyway, yea I've been out in the woods hunting like everyday this week but haven't really found anything. I did come across a log that I had seen last year and now it's completely flat and buried and has the consistency of saw dust. It made me inexplicably happy.

Looks like rain for this weekend so I'll be donning my hunting gear and preparing for an actives hunt soon.
