As usual I don't have an absolute favorite but lately Sung Tongs by animal collective has been a tripping favorite of mine.

I was listening to John Butler Trio's "Grand National" album the other night on some mushies and it felt like an orgasm the entire album through. I was pretty amazed. And from just 1/16th
EDIT: Or Matt Coldrick and Matt Hillier's "Elemental Journey"
That is one amazing album

Any live Dead concert you can find is great to listen to while tripping. Same goes for Phish, The Allman Brothers Band, and STS9. I'd also suggest Pink Floyd's Meddle, Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here. Derek and the Dominos Jam Sessions tear it up, if you are into improvisational jams you will love that.

You know what... I barely ever trip with music.. Normally all I can hear is the cracking of a fire or something.
One time I had headphones (I barely used them though) and when I put them on the song 'strange brew' by cream came on... that was fucking awesome.
Last time I tripped (on 3 hits + bottle wash) 'I' was sat under a tree meditating and before I 'broke through' the patterns and conquered the loops I could hear this really good dubstep track clearer than any music I've ever heard before. Once I got passed the patterns and loops, though, there was only really loud silence.
Next time I trip (which won't be until the summer unfortunately), I'm going to make a point of taking a small stereo with me so I can listen to dark side & wish you were here. I'd also like to check out dub side of the moon and shpongle - tales of the inexpressibel & nothing lasts.

Nice scream.
I would just want to recommend ... Don't pummel me too hard ...
The Beatles Abbey Road Side 2.
It's all good (the whole album that is...), but side two is a nice composite. (Here comes the Sun through The End is very nice. Even the surprise Her Majesty is an amusing surprise to elicit giggles.
Also, from the album Let it Be, Across the Universe is delightful -- maybe more so for us old folks. Put it in a playlist. :-)
I used to think Pink Floyd's The Wall, but realized that it is really a bad trip. (The movie sucks in this way especially. Well... it was trying to make a statement that I didn't want to hear!) Still one of the greatest albums of all time. But it is very dark. Still, Comfortably Numb is a nice 6 minute sequester.
I could also suggest the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major. I like Graffman's performance, but I'm always looking for other interpretations.
And also Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variations. It's nice to compare the 1955 version (baroque in style) to the 1981 versions (much more Romantic in style). Very pleasant and intellectual.
Peace.

I won't listen to singles while I am tripping. I really enjoy listening to full albums. Listening to a concept album all the way through while tripping seems to take you on a journey. Some of my favorite albums to listen all the way through are:
Pink Floyd - DSOTM, Meddle, and Animals Shpongle - ALl of their albums Ott - both of his albums Taruna - World Fusion 3 (this album is some awesome shit)
-------------------- Monotub #3 - check out my best grow to date!!!!

I listen to lots of Grateful Dead and other bands, but the one cd I WILL listen from start to finish is Viva La Vida from coldplay actually
I remember listening to it for hours when it first came out, being driven around on two hits of acid. I feel like the cd itself is a trip.

FYI, rant05, in cases like this it would be more appropriate to just create your own thread rather than bump a four year old thread (as the warning at the top well...warned)
Anyway, welcome to the boards! You might wanna check out the Getting Started forum. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/83
It'll help you to get to know the place better.
