I found a whole brood of them in the basement of the bookstore at Portland State University! BADASS! I haven't seen them in years now that it's cooler to be emo or hipster. I never really identified with goths or even had a friend that was one (and had a handbook) but they were a large part of my childhood because goth culture goes hand and hand with comic book stores that sell fantasy game stuff. One of my fondest memories of my brother was when we were sitting outside of a comic book convention bothering some goths as we waited for our ride.

Im an ex-goth or "recovering goth". Every once in a while I relapse though.
I got rid of the clothes, the cds, the absinthe and vodka(opting instead to drink microbrews), and started useing colours in my art work (as opposed to black). I put away my black sg series electric guitar and distortion peddles and got a dobro. I exchanged my black boots with shiny zippers for sandals and my bondage blazer for a baja. I traded my black spikey choker for a hemp one with a big dichro glass bead. I quit dyeing my hair black with blood red bangs, and started to go to bars with jamgrass cover bands instead of goth djs.
Im really trying to not be goth...but every once in a while I slip up.
I am takeing it one day at a time.

Some hippy had a go at me cuz I had a brand name on my clothing. It was actually a piece of clothing someone gave me. I never look a gift horse in the mouth - so I took the free clothing and I wear it - I save money - I keep warm its just logic to me - I don't really give a shit if its branded or not. When I told the hippy someone gave it to me he tried changing his story... Dumb ass doesn't realize what a fucking hypocrite he being!

Fuck everybody in this thread that has a problem with goths, I used to socialise with a few and tbh, for the most part they're just socially awkward people with above average intelligence that just want to keep themselves to themselves.
I have nothing against them and find them more pleasurable in a one to one than most self-important bellends. In fact I've never met a dickhead goth, usually they are very amiable but shy.

These prepubescent mall goth kids that go to metal shows and the mall then act like retards are gonna cause me to look down on their entire subculture.
- I've been at a show and 2 of them start puking on each other and on the front step of the venue.
- They tag up the bathrooms at the mall and local venues with stupid wannabe satanic shit.
- They lack common sense.
- My friends who work at the mall have told me they steal from hot topic and Spencer's gifts every day.
- Pack mentality. When they are in large groups they act like idiots, talk shit, throw stuff, cause unneeded problems.
If everyone of them I have met hasn't acted like a complete douche they I wouldn't be a dick to them. Their whole subculture is based on them acting like morons. So I treat them like such.

My best friend in the world dressed in the 'goth' attire in high school. He never acted like that, though. He's a cool guy, and now admits that what he was doing in high school was stupid. I was friends with the guy, but that doesn't mean I didn't make fun of him for wearing ridiculous shit like that.

Hey, the girl in the picture has a nice body and looks like she is definitely sexually experimental and willing to be different. What's not to like? I would take that girl over your average young girl dressed in that "pink" brand or whatever the hell it is. People like to make fun of goths for their somewhat uniform dress codes, for being just as bad as preppy styles and what not, but by making fun of them aren't you just being as bad as the close-minded preppies so many people here probably hate? It just doesn't make sense to me.

This thread is yet another good example of how many closed minded people we have here who make snap judgments based solely on appearances. As much as "labels" can be stupid, and the different groups that make them up... people associate with one or another in order to "fit in", or not fit in.. perhaps due to their preferences, their personalities, their sense of style, or any other long list of reasons. You cannot judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes.
The bottom line is, The way people dress or the groups they associate with, does not define who they are as a person
I am guilty of making the same judgments in the past, where I perhaps labeled an entire group, like rappers.. as retards. But then, I've met plenty of "rappers" who wear their uniform and speak their language, who were very intelligent, respectful and broad-minded people, and changed my opinion of them completely. Likewise... I have met many very cool "goth" type people, these poser goth fags you hear about, are the same as any other 'poser' in any other group.. they are just dressing that way to try and fit in. There are good people and there are douche bags in every corner of society. It's not wise to judge someone based on appearances or the "group" they associate with, judge individually.. sure. But to judge someone off the bat based on their clothing? That makes YOU the asshole. It is no different from judging someone based on the color of their skin, or their sex. Judge people based on their actions and intentions, not what they look like.
Furthermore, I have met many of these types of people that dress "differently" from the norm... because it acts as a sort of armor.. to keep close-minded, judgmental people away from them.. the type of people that would label them as freaks just by looking at what they are wearing. So they only tend to have less run-ins with assholes and more positive interactions with people that are open-minded and will talk to them on an individual level. People are complex. They are a lot more than the clothes they choose to wear.
Not to say there are no douche bags that just dress differently because they want attention, but even still.. who are you to judge? And what is wrong with wanting attention? It's pretty much a basic human want, from the time we are born. I say live and let live. And mind your own fucking business, unless someone is causing you harm in some way.
Are we all a bunch of fucking clones? I don't recall signing a contract when I was born that stated I had to dress a certain way, worship a certain god, and blindly follow the masses. If anything, the freedom in this country encourages us to go against the grain, and just because that is not the norm, does not give anyone any right to judge. Personally, I welcome diversity.. without it this country would be nothing but Jessica Simpson clones. If vapid, mentally-devoid barbie dolls are your thing, more power to you... I'm not going to insult your preferences, but shit.. maybe some of us want some substance.

I used to get my acid from goths. I had my first high dose trip hanging with them. Every one of them I've met has been a unique gentle creature. Plus, goth chicks are hot.
I used to be hard into the rave scene in the mid 90s. Most people grow out of the extreme lifestyle. Get in where you fit in.

I seem to fit in best with raver chicks and ex-raver chicks. They're way hot ... especially when they're Russian
