I know T-Bones are all right but what about New York stake bones?
Is there a rule what kind of bones to give your dog? I know chicken is out of the question and pork ribs. What is cool for my dog to eat?

All bones splinter, all bones are bad. I wouldn't suggest any natural bone.

No, beef bones are fine.
Just not, as you said, chicken or pork.
Beef bones are fine for your dog.

They might be stronger, but I wouldn't give my dog any bone. All they're trying to do is eat it. There's a lot better things to give your dog as a treat, especially if they're an aggressive chewer like mine is.

Just personal experience, I've given every dog I've ever had beef bones and they were all fine.

I think its bad if the bone is cooked. Raw bones are fine and good for the dogs teeth. Dogs are designed to chew through raw bones. But cooked bones splinter easier and are dangerous.

Yeah, raw bones are much safer, but I too don't give my dog any meat bones either. My uncle is a vet and also told me never to give my dog any cooked bone, it can splinter and cause your dog to be in alot of pain. Even tho they love them. They also can choke easier.
Side note: there's actually a raw meat diet for dogs, called BARF. Give them raw chicken, beef, all top of the line but supposed to be very good for them.

yeah, I don't know where all of the crap about not giving bones to dogs came from... Dogs can eat the FUCK out of anything, they aren't stupid when it comes to eating things, they know what they can down.
I have never heard of a dog choking and dying on something, I think it is just one of those things people talk about, but never really see happening anywhere.
I'm sure it has happened, I'm just saying, not to any dogs in my community, or in the communities of my relatives.
Dogs eat bones. That's how it is.

I thought that beef was OK as well. As far as i remember being told. As far as the cooked part i don't know about that, but i guess that makes sense. But the scraps from my meal makes a treat out of my garbage for my best friend!
I also heard that it is better for your dog to eat red raw uncooked meat, because that is what they are supposed to eat in the wild if they were not domesticated. I have heard it makes them more aggressive but i haven't seen it in my friends dog.

Sometimes raw meat can make a dog sick too, but you don't always see it happen. I have seen some pretty nasty throat splinters in dogs because of bones. Now, I don't know all the specifics of which bones are more dense and thus harder to break into pieces and splinter than others, but I've been advised by people in the veterinary community to do myself and my dog a big favor and avoid any trouble by sticking with more appropriate toys, and food. But, that's just my $.02!

the more fragile the bone the more likely it is to break apart and get stcuk in the animals throat. apparently chicken is ok for consumption by dogs; my gf is studying to be a vet and recommends to stay away from any bones or give them very infrequently; bone marrow is pretty healthy though

id suggest w/e meat your wanting to give your dog you provide it to him with a live body so he can take it the most natural way. of course he might end up getting eaten instead, but thats part of life and then poof you have a new pet

You may feed your dog CHICKEN bones, IF AND ONLY IF the chicken bones are RAW.
We quite often feed our German Shepards raw chicken necks, so they can get bio-available calcium from the bones.
Any raw bones, including pork, should be okey, provided, (especially wth pork) that the pig didn't have trichinosis.

The bones don't get fragile until they are cooked, then they splinter off into sharp little shards. That's why raw bones are the best. They are chunky and chewable, and resilient. They don't get all broken into sharp, vicious shards the way cooked bones do.
(Couldn't believe I'd written "sharp-assed", so re-wrote it)

No, chicken bones are fine, as long as they are raw.
Dogs kill and eat live birds, most notably chickens. They will also predate ducks, geese, pigeons, pheasants, most anything they can catch. Cats also eat birds to about the size of a half grown duckling, and they WILL steal the big old goose wings from the Christmas goose our grandfathers used to hunt for yearly dinners
Dogs can eat any kind of bone safely, as long as it is raw. That's why God gave them such big teeth.
