 EMERGENCY - HELP! Friend took 2 pills of supposed Ecstasy. Been fuc... (UPDATE)

I wasn't present. My friend took 2 pills of what he thought was Ecstasy (and maybe tainted with amphetamine, because he took it before and said it felt very speedy).
He ended up writing for 5 hours straight, and being unable to sleep for 20 hours. We all figured it was meth. But he wasn't just agitated and focused.. he was almost tripping. He was extremely confused, couldn't walk straight, flushed, very restless, depressed and kept asking philosophical questions. "Am I a prophet?" "Are you God?" "Nobody loves me..."
him: "How do I make this stop?"
me: "The way you're feeling?"
him: "No. just this"
He kept mentioning a shroomuasca trip he had a year ago, in which he took too much and tripped hard. He kept asking why we "left him alone" (we were just in another room).
I assumed it was E/meth withdrawal with sleep deprivation and gave him a mg of Ativan. It knocked him out and he slept for a few hours. Please note that I had to sneak Ativan into some milk.. because he thought I was poisoning him.
That was Saturday morning. Yesterday he was a lot better but still talked 'slow' as if he was tripping hard, couldn't walk too well, and was VERY depressed. He began crying on the phone, and I had to go over to his house for a few hours. He did everything slow, as if he was on shrooms. He would stare into space, zone out, talk nonsense, change subjects quickly, etc. I'm not even sure if he knew who I was exactly.
Later that night I found out he ended up calling his family and admitting his entire drug use history to them (they never suspected a thing before that).
He told me what happened to him at work. He asked his co-workers "how can you make people happy?" and told me stories like "I was in a store and a guy bought cigarettes. I wanted to help him but I didn't know how" and he found a $20 on the floor and gave it to some lady. Just weird schizophrenic moments. In hind sight I wish I had given him Zyprexa.
What the fuck did he take? It can't be JUST meth and/or E. I can see some E withdrawal from the negativity, but I would guess he was tripping except his pupils never really dilated much during the entire time, and he didn't mention visuals. He said he smoked some pot a few hours before, and just took 2 E pills by mouth, not crushed. Hasn't taking anything since.
has an appetite but can't really sleep. His mom flew in this morning. At first she suspected he was drunk, but I'm not sure what happened now that she knows what he's on. and this morning I can't get in touch with him.
He's in NYC - and has taken "E" pills from this dealer before (those stated above).. I can't get in touch with his dealer (dunno the #). If anyone knows anything circulating in the area, please mention it. I have no details on the pills.
He *might* have taken some other stuff before/after but if he did, he didn't say a word. But I'm pretty sure he had no access to psychedelics.

Sigh. BAD NEWS... he woke up today (yes, he slept for 1-2 days straight) and he's not that much better. He's a little more coherent and he's faster mentally, but he can't do basic arithmetic (8x8 etc) and seems unable to understand or comprehend basic sentences. For example,
me: "when your mom gets here. Tell her you love her and you're sorry"
him: "ok"
me: "what are you gonna tell your mom when she gets here?"
him: "that I forgive her"
... I repeat myself and ask him again ...
him: "that I love her and forgive her"
etc..
Doctors aren't satisfied with his progress and he has been moved to the psych ward, and is expected to stay there for 5-6 days. That's all I have for now. This is tragic. He hasn't been on any meds, and AFAIK, there was nothing in his blood, so I'm not sure if he was abusing any drug for an extended period. I'm pretty sure he had some THC metabolites, since he smoked often last month, but all I heard was "nothing in his blood."

I think he will be fine eventually, but this is really tough on all of us, especially his family (family = single mom + grandmother, his an only child). On top of all this, he doesn't have insurance at the moment.. major problem. I suggest everybody have health insurance if you live in the US. I _really_ don't recommend doing anything risky without insurance. Shit DOES happen, to anyone. WATCH YOURSELF.
09/10/2008 UPDATE - BAD NEWS!
He's completely out of it. This is surreal.
These events happened before he went to the hospital. He wasn't just "acting weird" as some might think... he's completely out there and needed to be admitted.
I was told that the day before, when his family was crying, he did not display any sign of emotion, and said "I don't feel anything" when asked if he had any emotions about what was going on. He couldn't add 3+4, and had long (10 sec+) pauses between what he was saying. His sentences were also broken; Not connected. Each was on a completely different topic. This was early yesterday.
Later in the day, my bro walked in and he was in his boxers on the couch, staring straight ahead (at nothing), not making a sound or move. It looked as though he had no clue anybody walked in, or that anyone was around even. He was very unresponsive and paranoid. My bro (and prob his family) tried to give him a bath to try to get him "back." He was screaming and thought he was being baptized, and that he was being drowned.
He said "they're telling me to make a decision" and when asked "who" replied "the voices." But he also said "I'm making the voices" - without going into detail, he was detached from his thoughts. He thought they were voices, but knew he was the one constructing them.
also, my brother told me that when he was talking to him, he noticed that his pupils were constantly changing size - growing and shrinking. What would cause this? There were no dimming lights nearby. He did not sleep for 3 days straight, thinking that he will die if he fell asleep. He looked awful. This is the only not-so-bad news, which gives us a little hope that most of his symptoms are due to sleep deprivation.
He refused, but was just forced to go to the ER. In the ER he was unable to speak for himself. He didn't know where he was, and kept asking who "all these people" are. He didn't know where he was. He was unable to answer basic questions. Some he just didn't know, and others he was hesitant about (i.e., who's the current president? "... I think it's george bush") and he told the nurse "I'm in a loop."
After that, my bro "translated" between him and the nurse. His entire drug history was given to the nurse, from the mushrooms he ate years ago, to the joint he smoked on the roof last month. My bro was just honest about everything the nurse asked.
He thought that everybody in the waiting room was waiting for him, and kept asking when he could "wake up." He also asked if we "ever saw ourselves in 3rd person."
There's a bunch of other little moments like that, but eventually he was put on a stretcher and was getting his vitals/stats checked. Blood sugar, temperature, blood pressure, heart beat, and etc were OK. Physically he was fine. Then he was wheeled into a room to get his blood tested. We were told no medication would be administered before they find out what's in his blood (obvious), and that was it. His mom stayed with him, but nobody else was allowed (or maybe his mom just requested that.)
This was around 10 PM last night. I just woke up and there's really no way to contact him as of now. His mom doesn't want to see us (she didn't see us in the hospital. She went from work straight into his room, but anyway).
Schizophrenia normally doesn't pass on the father's line, but his dad was psychotic. I don't know much about his dad. His parents divorced when he was young. We're all riding on the hope that this is amphetamine psychosis or something else that can be cured.
It's surreal when this happens, because you read about these train wrecks on Erowid all the time, but there's always ways to justify those reports. "She was weak-willed, an addict," or "he didn't test the pills." This gives us a sense that this can't happen to us, but it does. You guys need to be careful.

BTW he's not violent, nor aggressive, but he doesn't cooperate because he's suspicious of everything. Taking him to the hospital is impossible except if done against his will (by force). He truly believes he's a prophet and believes that if he "ends" the trip/effects, then he will not have accomplished his mission. A lot of this is just what I am piecing together. He isn't as fucked up as you might think from reading this.. physically most people will suspect he's depressed, lonely and/or just very tired. Those who've tripped can probably suspect he's on something.. and he sounds like he's very scared that he's losing his mind, but doesn't want to admit it.

Find out what they looked like, and tell me where you are from...Or you can visit this site yourself, and find out what was in them. It could have been a research chemical/other shit too.
He could have had an underlying illness, and he might have set it off. If thats the case, and he doesn't get better in a few days...Get him help.

Honestly. If you're smart and test your pills or get molly I think doing Ecstasy is the BEST. But thats a pretty crazy story. Kinda scary...
Maybe he was unstable to begin with and some methbombs gave him a little psychosis.

snap him out of it as quick as possible. that sounds kind of like how my friend got after a couple trips he had shortly spaced out. he wound up pretty skitzo, as in spending alot of time in mental hospitals over several years.

I have a suspicion that he's been taking (supposed) E for awhile now, but I have no proof. I didn't rule out amphetamine psychosis, but going JUST on what he told me (having only taken 2 pills, and 2 pills about a month before), it doesn't sound like it can be MDMA/Amphetamine/Meth, since it has lasted too long.
PCP isn't rare here, but I dunno if this is it.. what do you guys think? Does it sound like orally ingested PCP? Maybe a mix of some drugs?

hmm.. I first suspected Datura, because he had some interest in it awhile back, but due to the fact that his pupils weren't dilated and he wasn't hallucinating (but that's according to him), He also didn't seem to have any memory loss. Knew who he was, where his home was, phone #s, etc..
but it does sound like some scopolamine was in the pills. I'm really not sure. Damn, this sucks.

PCP in ecstasy pills? I highly doubt it.
Most of the time when E is impure it contains small amounts of amphetamines and the rest is mostly caffine with a bit of MDMA. I've heard of Ketamine pills and 5-MEO-DMT being sold in pill form and being confused for ecstasy.
My last girlfriend popped some pills thinking they were E once and she got stuck in a K hole. The next time she took pills she thought they were E and she took some 5-MEO-DMT.
She was dumb though. NEVER tested her own pills. She would do anything when she was drunk "Woo! Pills! Lets get fucked up!"
Glad I got rid of that crazy bitch.

5-meo-dmt in pills wouldn't do much at all as i understand it. you have to snort an ungodly amount to get high, and its still not comparable to a tiny amount smoked.

I don't know. I was at a party, smoking a lung with some a friend and my buddy walks in:
"Dude. Um... you might want to go into the other room and check out your girl. I think Nick gave her some of those alien pills."
I think "Shit..."
She is sitting on the couch with a nearly empty bottle of goldshalger and I sit down with her and she says "That wasn't ecstasy I took." then she started talking gibberish for a while. I got pretty mad at my bro for giving the pills to her but he took them too and he seemed fine... he hadn't been drinking though.
In the end I got one of her girlfriends to take her home and put her to bed because she was pretty much incoherent.

Sounds like amphetamine psychosis based on the available evidence. That man needs some pills, contact his family and get him to a hospital. He's delusional right now, so he'll never consent to it.

Yea get him some help. If he doesn't get it...The psychosis only worsens. He would eventually come out, but he would never be the same...Its likely he will never be the same again.
I saw it one time with this 30-35 year old guy. It was awful. He didn't get the help he needs, and now there is no way to stop his psychosis. It slowly gets worse no matter what is done. Once a large business owner now needs help caring for himself.
Do your friend a favor, and get him to the doctor/hospital. Let them dose him up on some stuff to try to stop it...Which they can, but he may be on this stuff the rest of his life.

yeah and defintely make sure he isn't still drinking, smoking or doing other drugs.
this is very unscientific, but i think alot of us get similar moments under drugs. i think when people really decide to run with it is when they start getting fucked up. the sooner you can derail whatever train of thought he's on, the better his chance of just coming back to baseline is i think.

I took 130mg of amphetamine (intranasal) i was young and stupid. Long story short i was up for three days, body was tired but brain wouldnt stop thinking and couldnt go to sleep. the third day of no sleep i started getting hallucinations and severe paranoia (of death), i ended up hitting up my pill dealer took an oxy 80 (with time release still intact.) Slept for 18 hours, woke up ate, slept for another 15 hours and then i was able to function again. WORST experience ever never doing amphets ever again. Anyway your friend sounds like hes experiencing something similar that happened to me.
