My roommate is in a doctoral program to get his AuD, that's a doctorate of audiology.
"Ear candles are a complete scam. Total bullshit. They don't work at all." he says.

doctors claim alot of natural methods are scams. ive used these, with moderate effectiveness(but then again theyre not supposed to pull it ALL out), and i know at least 2 other people personally who swear by them and havent used anything differently for years.

Compacted ear wax should be removed by a physician or other health professional using legitimate instruments. Candling is both ineffective and dangerous."" . ""From a reader in Spokane, Washington: An ear infection had also set in, requiring prescriptions drugs of a decongestant, an antibiotic and a steroid.""
This is pretty much what I got when I went to the doctor (minus the steroids).... But but but, it seems like such a neat way to clean one's ears.....
Either way, this thread was more to locate a safe working alternative for what ear candles are supposed to do.... I keep forgetting to go to the store to find the Murine solution with the blue balloon/syringe thing (commonly known as a snot sucker)....

No, I don't have earwax issues & I've never had an ear infection. I'd be more likely to use an olive oil/garlic/mullein compound in my ears than ear candles. It sounds like this particular "natural" remedy may be a scam.

the last time i had an ear infection i was too young to remember. i build wax very quickly. i know q-tips arent the best thing for your ears, but they feel SOOO good to dig in there with. i produce alot of wax, so i like to do a light swabbing every 2-3 days, sometimes i just add a little warm water and peroxide mix in there and let it bubble it out.
