I went, in July, for the first time to this event truekimbo2 turned me on to here in NYC called DubWar. It's in this club called Love and when you go downstairs into it you enter this cave...we called it the Beatcave. Holy shit wobwobwobwob. After four hours of dancing to dubstep that kept getting better and better as the night went on, my face was wobwobwobbing after we left. Totally fucking bassfaced.

i know this isn't the most out of control tune out, but it really gives the whole primitive vibe dub-step really embodies, if you aren't into that i guess you really don't get it? either way its all great to me.

I've been into dubstep for a couple years now; it's still way ahead of the curve. It's pretty much all I play these days. I also go out to dubstep events about 2-3 times per month. We get some amazing talent out in Chicago- Kode 9, Benga, Hatcha, Caspa, Chef, Distance, etc. And I can't even begin to tell you about the locals.... BANG!!!
I see you're from Philly- did you go see Skream and Diplo a couple weeks back? Heard that shit was crazy. BTW, I just recently copped the record in the first video- Quarta 330's remix of Kode 9's '9 Samurai'. Beautiful tune. Still, the flip is what kills me. AMAZING track called Sunset Dub. Look into it.
OMR- Cool that you went to a dubwar. I'd love to go to one some day. Back in July I almost went to Trouble and Bass (also at Love), but the main headliners (The Bug & Warrior Queen) cancelled and I didn't want to drive into the city otherwise. (I was staying at my parents place for a few days.)
Also, if you're into dubstep- check out a genre called skweee. Srsly. Here's a mix by dj waxtastic: http://rapidshare.com/files/129930349/mansteri_mixtape_4.0_-_rappers_got_skweeewed.mp3.html

Diplo's gonna be out in Chicago in two months- I'm pretty stoked. Not dubstep, but incredible tunes none the less.
You guys got Starkey in Philly, too. He was recently selected by Vex'd to represent them in DubWarz: Generation Bass. That's an incredible thing for an American prod/dj. But Starkey's on some next level shit, so it's no surprise.
I don't use drugs at dubstep events, save for weed. It'd be cool, I guess, but the tunes themselves do it for me. I know how corny that sounds.

Nice, another skweee mix to listen to, I still listen to the KidLogic one you posted last month.
Kode 9 was the headliner that night at DubWar, the next one is on Sept. 19th, definitely plan on checking it out though they haven't announced DJ's.
I don't know any good dubstep DJ's by name but hoping this thread can help me get a list going.

No that makes sense if you go to a place with a killer sound system you get wrecked just off the bass.

Three of my all-time favorite dubstep jams:
Big Headed Slags by Caspa
Lean Forward by Mala
3Kout by Jakes
Yes, I know these tunes are old. But they're some of my favorites.

This isn't what you're calling dub is it? Or is this a differnet genre than dub? I have never heard of this "dubstep". If you want some fuckin bass that comes with some talent, check out Phutureprimitive, Pitch Black (nz). I got lots of other dub. Zion Train has TONS of bass, kinda regae like electronica.

OMR: This skweee mix is hip hop acapellas over skweee. It's pretty good. I think it was made in Ableton.
Also, I can tell you that Joe Nice and DQ will be at the next DubWar, along side MC Juakali. This is reason enough to go, but they haven't announced the main headliner. Someone really amazing, no doubt.
If you're into it, Sub Swara will be at Love on 10.03, presenting The Bug and Warrior Queen. This is some serious shit. Here's the video for their hit 'Poison Dart':

Dub and dubstep are different. Not all dubstep sounds reggae-ish. Dubstep owes it's existence to dub music, but it's very different.

Hey aNeway2sayHooray!
Some other stuff for people to check out:
the aforementioned Tempa All-Stars series Benga's album 'Diary of an Afro-Warrior' Burial's album 'Burial' (I don't really consider this dubstep, but it's still great music)
Mixes/Releases by: Mala, Skream, Plastician, N-Type, Caspa, Rusko, Benga.... way too many to name, just thinking of some of the most accessible, catchy type shit for new listeners. It's all pretty great, but you have to find what kind of sound you like- after you get the fundamentals, you'll see that there's all different flavors of dubstep.

ya hes def on the cusp of many things the cividing lines between alot of musical syles realy depends on your prespective
much like most people dont understand the diffrence between death, black, and speed metal
the whole tronic scene is very much prone to sectening its music off into microgenras. probly to convince otherpeople it does not all sound the same

The more you listen to the more your ear learns that it DOESN'T all sound the same, there are nuanced differences for sure. I don't claim to have a finely tuned ear for it, either, I just know people who do.

Hahaha! Yeah, pretty much.
It's a shitty thing to do too. Doesn't make sense to try to put music into boxes like that, but I find myself doing it subconsciously all the time. It's a hard habit to break myself of.
Some people argue that there's just music that you like, and music you don't like. I understand that, but it doesn't keep me from seperating my dark electro from my 8bit electro and my dubby dubstep from my techy dubstep.

in an interview with an old hippie professor (actually, head of our philosophy dept. at uni) about music and his life (he plays about every stringed instrument and others and has been playing since he was a child), he put it like this:
"there's only two kinds of music: the familiar, and the unfamiliar"
that's paraphrased. i can't locate the exact quote on my tape right now, but i'm going back through it to find it

wow, i didn't know dubstep was this popular. i thought it was primarily just a bay area thing and underground at that besides the tru few who have made it big and made name for themselves. i try to catch shows whenever i can, it's amazing shit. the whole integration of dubstep, glitch, breakbeat, d'n'b, and downtempo is pretty savage as well. there are a lot of good bands that are combining the whole electronic scene with organic sounds and real instruments as well and jamming on the vibes. all great stuff, i interested in following watching the continuing this relatively new subgenre of music and where it will go/create next.

I fucking love Dubstep! Check out Dubstep Allstars. Volumes 4 and 5 are my favourite. 4 is more synth and Dub and five is by far my favourite album. 38 track of Dubstep mixed so fluidly. It's got more of a punch than volume 4, every song is so catchy!
Anyway you can get them both here. http://www.musicloo.info/2008/09/dubstep.html This archive has any Dubstep release I know about, Well worth your time checking this out especially if you have a Rapidshare a/c. I've downloaded over a gig and a half of filthy dubstep from this sitre.
