I have not, I have joined Sitar forums though, and asked around.
Everyone has sent me there.
I talked on the phone to the "sitar guy" that works there, and he was very knowledgeable and very willing to help.
they also have a 10 day send back guarantee.

Wow, that's an extremely bad ass sitar. And probably not too bad of a price, but that's still a LOT of money (to me). But if you've got the money to spend (because you could definitely find quality sitars much cheaper), go for it. I've found that a lot of times, the steeper price DOES grant a better made instrument. and if you play other string instruments already, and have a pretty good idea of music theory, Indian music theory won't be too hard to pick up on. Especially with access to the internet.
For instance, I bought some quality tablas online and learned how to play the basic strokes. But now that I have progressed on the tabla, I feel I should progress to better quality tablas. I played a custom set in a music store the other day and I was blown away. Not only is it much easier to get the correct sounds out of these tabla, but the sound itself is tones better too.
Have fun.
Record some stuff once you get it. and load it on here, and i'll record some tabla to go along with it. It'll be fun. me and backfromthedead did that. i'm still trying to find the free time to recording that again for him too, actually.

Yeah it sounds like a badass idea. You would be like the coolest person to trip with ever if you actually became proficient with the Sitar.

I think tripping while learning the sitar is a good idea too. That's basically how I learned to play guitar. The first day that I ever learned anything about playing the guitar was after I had just eaten a few tabs with my brother. Everyone says that I learned quickly.
I've always played instruments though (just piano, but only for a short while when I was very young, and percussion prior to that though), so who knows?
But still, I contribute a lot to learning instruments under the influence of psychedelics

Now does the sitar have any similarites to playing the guitar? I would think that they dont have much in common when it comes to playing them.

Sitar players unite!!
I got mine back when I was in college. Good times

Sitars are pretty easy to play. Don't expect to jam out some Ravi Shankar right away but you'll probably be figuring out some cool stuff by the end of the first day of playing. The only trouble I ever really had was keeping it in tune with those wooden pegs. You'll probably want to get some chalk or something to help keep the pegs tight. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks .
When I Feel good enough I will def record some stuff.
I feel confident I will be able to learn at a decent rate. I have a wide range of string instrument experience, and a general understanding of notation (as of late :P).
I sense it to be a very spiritual instrument, something to put your heart and soul into, and I shall.
Thanks all for the positive input.

Man, I wouldve sold you the exact same one for 400 bucks. Im losing money on it, but I cant seem to find anyone who wants to buy it and Im in some debt. It was an impulse buy when I was on a high dose of cid; and I jammed out on it for a couple of years. I had one of my best sessions with it on mushrooms and used to play it in a band called "freeform spirits" It has just sat in the basement for the past year or two untouched though.

Upon further inspection; its not it has a black design on the white around the border instead of red and the tuning nobs are not as decadent; it is very similar though in the toomba and the design thing with the fish, beads on the strings; etc. It was made by "Bhargava & Co" in Mumbai. It isnt quite as fancy, Id say that one is probably better; this one was 600-something new. It is fullsize though; plywood case.

Must be a student sitar.
The one I am getting is higher mid range.
The cheapest midrange I have found was 725$. Everyone I have talked to said to get the greatest I could afford, because getting a student one will land you wanting a better one 6 months later.

Yeah its just a standard double toomba model I think; Ive been looking at the professional/fancy ones and they are alot more decadent; there are the pics though.
