haha, just had to quote in case he pulls an edit on there. good stuff auto. Anyways, IMO, ps3 outperforms 360 based off of quality of build alone. Throw in its media playing capabilities it is great. I have mine setup to my stereo system and play all my movies, dvd, blu-ray, and media files off of server, plus all my music through it. In the end, i like it much more than i did the 360.

i don't know if the ps3 is, but xbox360's are a "region free" dvd players. this can be important if u like pirating dvd's.

to pirate movies, you should get better quality, you can get blu-ray and hddvd rips encoded with h264 and get much better quality out of anything. Also, i normally rip discs with my computer and then convert them into .mpg for the ps3.
anyways, thats definitely handy, though it is crazy for microsoft to implement something with the word 'free' in the name...

doesn't seem to be as much selection w/ x264 or the fast speed of release as r5, but that is for another thread. besides, 360 seems to have a problem w/ some of them.

h264 prob isn't the best format to be future proof. dvd's will be supported for a lot longer im thinking

I've had both, and, for the time being, I like the 360 better, specially if price is taken into account. This is because I haven't had any red rings, if you take the 360s global failure rate into account, the PS3 is definitely superior in a price/quality ratio.

Why spend a grand or more? Well, because you can simply download any PC game ever made for free, and you can download emulators to play almost any console game (except for the latest generation of consoles). Not to mention my vast music collection and movie collection that has been downloaded.
Oh, and about the graphics: they're already making games that use the full potential of the systems.
Know why Crysis didn't come out for either console? Because they aren't good enough. They would have had to dumb-down the graphics.

i really don't think Sony has any intentions of coming out with a new system anytimne soon..PS3 is the total package and is nowhere near working to full capacity...

What the fuck kind of argument is that? That's like comparing cell phones, and saying 'yeah well, I don't care about the camera, it's a PHONE'. Granted, I'd take a good phone with a lack of features vs a shitty phone with tons of features....but the point is, in this situation, the 'feature full phone' is better in function AND communication.
The only upside to a console is that you can plop down on the couch in front of your big ass TV and play a fight game or some racing game with 3 of your drunk friends without a hassle.
When I buy a PC for 1000$ vs your 400$ system:
-I can play games with better graphics
-I can tab out and talk with friends via chat
-I can stop making lists, since I can do just about anything 10x better than I can on a gaming console.
The keyboard+mouse VS controller point is moot, and compares to the couch example. I.E: I could wreck your ass in any shooter with a K+M combo vs some crappy tiny joystick on a controller. You could probably wreck me in a fighter, however. It really comes down to the fact that you're comparing apples to oranges.
I'll stick to my PC however. :P
(...granted, my gf buys almost all of the systems out anyway)

im thinking we "might" see gaming bounce back to pc's, now that hdmi video cards are out. ive got a new flat panel tv and the idea of bringing a gaming pc to it becomes more and more appealing each day. the only thing im worried about is setting a fire with all the power a monster gaming pc would draw coupled with a big screen and possible surround sound

I am not really a gamer. I have been a counterstrike addict since it came out, and I have owned a playstation as they've been released. I can honestly say that for first person shooters there is nothing better than a mouse! I wish GTA4 was a little more FPS like, but it will do for now!
PS3 wont replace a PC no doubt, but with built in HDD and web browser, and their cell processors they are coming close in some areas, and completely smashing on pc's in others.
I am a proud owner of both :P

you can also use controllers with pc's, mod them or buy them its availble. the only advantage a console has right now is developers are flocking to them. im just hoping pc gaming will come back because i really don't like the direction consoles are heading...buying and downloading games...fuck that i want to be able to sell my games when im done with them thanks!

I think we'll see when starcraft 2 comes out to see if pc's are a let down for games... If so then I'm still going to be on this block of machine maybe not as much... But I guess who am I to say when I barely touch my xbox and I just got soul caliber 4...
the 360 is awesome and ps3 wasnt so much so when I first got it. I in fact traded it for a 360 when the ps3 has dvd trouble.
Games are consuming but if its worth it its that fun.

oh and counter strike: condition zero is easily was better than halo. And again the strategy games like command and conquer warcraft and starcraft are all leet for the pc. So it all depends.
And I like that you can use the xbox control with the comp too. I havn't even done it though... Might have to pick up some EMULATORS!
