ehhh, people who chug Bud Light cannot jump into IPA.
I think the real difference is how many you drink a night. Not many people downing a six pack or more like IPA. If you just have a couple or one with a meal, exploring microbrewery taste is key.

You know what pisses me off with budweiser? There's a history between the actual Budvar/Budweiser made here

Proper Budweiser is great, tasty plisner. The american stuff? Not so.
It'd be like a car manufacturer buying dodge vipers, slapping a ferrari stallion on it, giving it a red paint job and saying it's the king of cars. And if they had Budweiser's marketing budget, people would buy them up.

I concur with most here. But I'll take it a step further. Not only is Budweiser NOT good, but it's possibly one of the worst beers ever made next to PBR and Natty Ice. And I refuse to drink it, partly because of taste, but mainly on principal.
Sorry, but I'm a beer snob. When I started getting a beer gut on my 5'10" 125lbs frame I decided that life was too short to drink shitty beer. Almost everything they sell at the gas station I refuse to drink. I'm fortunate that my local convenience store actually carries a few quality beers. But there is also a beer store around the corner with hundreds of different quality beers.
I will ONLY drink imports or microbrews (and by imports I DON'T mean heiniken or guiness), and usually only if they are at least 7% alcohol. Unibrou is possibly one my favorite breweries, which I believe is based out of Canada (god bless Canada). Allagash is another that I seem to keep comming back to.
I guess I'm partial to Belgian style ales, but lately they've been too sweet for my tastes. So many microbrews today go so heavy on the hops! WTF! I want a beer that tastes like I'm drinking a loaf of bread! Maybe I need to try an oatmeal stout or something.
I've found that a good high gravity beer not only tastes better than the crap you get from the gas station, but the buzz is better too. Kinda like KB vs Schwag. (BTW I also only smoke KB... when I'm not on probation). You get a 2 pint bottle of some fucking 9% beer I guarantee you can stay drunk all night.

me an my buddy love to go down to the beer store and pick out like 5 different beers we've never tried before and just taste them all and compare the different nuances and unique flavors... way more fun than just chugging some pisswater.

I heavily hopped beers.
But if you're looking for something that tastes like a loaf of bread, I'd recommend Cascade Lakes' "Blonde Bombshell" (if you can find it in your area). But oatmeal stouts are always a good call too.

Now, i actually like IPAs and pale ales. But sometimes these "craftbeers" (*cough*Flying Dog*cough*) just like "lets throw a buncha hops in dis bitch!" and it doesn't work...
Thanks though. I'll put blonde bombshell on my list along with an oatmeal stout.

Hrethic said: Budweiser, the "Kind Of Beers" is pretty fucking good, but you know what? It's like looking at a rainbow, all the colors are perfectly there, no one outshining the other. It's just like that, perfect, but not perfect. Anyone would tell you a rainbow is just that, a rainbow. Beautiful yes, but significant? No. Blue Moon, or Corona, or Fat Tire or any of those that "unique" taste are good, but its COMPARED to beers like Budweiser. Because it's the rainbow, everything represented. Interesting.
Just food for thought: the drunker or higher perspectives welcome, I'm a few sloshes between each right now. Anyone ever read The Mote In Gods Eye.
It is a very good book.
Why in the fuck are you talking about rainbows and beer? You aren't being interesting, or offering any insight. You're just adding more useless garbage to the Shroomery. Dumbest post I've read on the Shroomery in at least the last couple months.

If I am drinking an American style logger it will be one of two. Blatz Mt. Creek
Both have everything you want in a swilling beer. They are cheap, Taste like "beer", and no hype.
If however I want a good beer, I go to the Great Dane Brew Pub in Madison and order anything on their list. Or anything by Tommyknockers is great.
Not a big fan of hops however, so I stick to my tasty dark ales, Porter, and sometimes Stouts. Kudos to whoever mentioned Oatmeal Stout. I haven't had one of them in a long time.

First off, Budweiser is none of those things. Budweiser? Fuck that shit, Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Pabst is making a comeback, it hasnt been changed, and it tastes like old school American Lagers where supposed to taste. Or try some Stroh's.
It is also cheaper too, for whatever reason, and the ingredients are better.
I drink a lot of import stuff as well, and craft beers, which are almost all ales, are very big in Colorado as we have more microbreweries than anywhere in the country.

UFO Heffeweizen, or UFO Raspberry if you want to switch it up on occasion. Not overpowering on the raspberry.
Bluemoon - tastes like shit out of the tap, bottles only, don't use orange slice.
Honeymoon - Try it.
Shock Top - Personally think it's better than Honey+Blue moon's.
Becks New Castle Sam Adams (Cherry Wheat or Winter) Sea Dog Guinness Opa Opa if you can get it Yeungling, as mentioned above Ten Penny Ale (jug) Dirty Penny Ale (jug) St. Pauli Girl is O.K.
Michelob Ultra Pomegranate/Lime/Raspberry are good, even tho I think Mich is disgusting. Same goes with Bud Light Lime (don't knock it before you try it - it's also better than Michelob's lime which tastes sour and bitter-beer).
Black Boss Porter if you want to get trashed for cheap and still have something that doesn't taste like shit. Far better than Pabst/Natty/MHL/etc. with a very nice body to it.
Some Polish beers have insane alcohol content and taste very good. On par with Bud Light as far as color and consistency, but not flavor.
Michelob Amber is allegedly very good but I haven't spent the money on it. More body and flavor to it than the straight Ultra.
Edit: Careful on the Sammy flavors. Tread lightly. Some taste like stale heineken, others taste like failed Sammy Light, some taste like a bad version of regular Sam.
