Women and toilet seats.
#8395367 - 05/13/08 04:29 AM (5 years, 1 month ago) |
|
|
I never had a problem with this before as I've always had a toilet where the seat falls down anyway. But not in my new place it stays up. So my wife is nagging the hell out me because i leave it up and that despite nagging, I KEEP leaving it up. Complete with moody periods and likewise sustained silence.
She says it's about respect. She gets more respect than she will ever appreciate, but leave the toilet seat up and suddenly I'm compared to the phantom majority of other men who always are considerate and put it down.
Women it seems, need us men to manage the toilet for them as it must be some sort of emotional thrill to walk into the bathroom backwards, in the dark with your eyes closed and faithfully drop upon the toilet.
You know, I've been putting it up for myself since as long as i can remember. I have never felt compelled to whimsically play the urine equivalent of "pin the tail" And if for some bizarre reason i had an embarrassing moment of clumsiness, the last thing I'm going to want to do is make my domestic life hell over it by acting unbearably.
So I tell her theres simply no way I'm going to remember every time, and you're only going to pay attention to the times I forget. Theres just no fathomable way.
And she tells me that most men remember to do this. I told her maybe in the dream world.
So I've been up looking for statistical evidence about men, women and toilets. All i can find is anecdotal evidence, Of course mens points of views are logical and fair, often far more humorous. and womens comments are basically all confessions that they are incapable of looking before they sit down. and this makes men inconsiderate...... HA! Maybe a toilet seat is ironic, because I KNOW a woman isn't going to see the irony in calling a man inconsiderate for counting on them to be considerate of their own surroundings.
what really irks me is that she actually believes that the majority of men put the seat down after. You know I probably do most of the time. in 2 weeks I forgot to 3 times. And to her thats every time.
I'm tired of it. It's the stupidest argument in the world and she will take it to the point of family dysfunction even though I inform her in all honesty that it's pointless. She would rather make my life miserable (and hers in the process) than do the simple REQUIREMENT of checking to see if anything is amiss with the toilet.
what it boils down to is if You can't remember to check the seat when the consequence is a wet messy splashdown, how the hell can I?
It is frankly not my responsibility, and never will be, consideration is not a issue here, I'm VERY considerate, I consider the facts, she doesn't.
If you can't be mindful of the toilet, you can't complain If I'm not.
It's clear that shes not angry that I'm not mindful of the toilet, shes really angry that I'm not mindful of her deficiency in awareness.
In essence I'M the one responsible for her flaw.
And when I say flaw, of course I mean no disrespect. But anything that causes so much misery, is CLEARLY a problem.

What I don't understand is why we are expected to put the seat up AND down.. and they are expected to do... nothing? Double standards FTL?
Just tell her you'll do nothing too and just leave it down, then piss all over the seat... oh.. wait...
Putting the seat up IS being considerate. Putting it down should be their job if they want it down. Logic FTW

I really don't see why some women bitch about the toilet seat being left up.
It's ironic, really. she's calling the man lazy b/c he doesn't simply put it down, but she's being lazy too by not wanting to put it down...
then there's the whole "I accidentally sat down on the toilet when the seat was up". bullfuckingshit. Seriously, if someone can't see the toilet seat is up BEFORE they sit down, then chances are they're retarded and probably shouldn't be going to the bathroom alone.
Most straight girls annoy the FUCK out of me. I seriously don't see how guys deal with the constant nagging and bitchery. I honestly have like 1 close friend who's a straight girl and I feel sorry for her boyfriend listening to her CONSTANT chattering and nagging and complaining.

holy crap, this is like a tv sitcom. i didn't think people actually had arguments like this in real life.
i never put the seat up or down when in my own house. if i pee on it by accident i wipe it up.
when i go to someone elses house i always put it fully down, so it is completely closed.

put the seat and the back down, then see what she says
but yah everytime i gotta take a piss i gotta lift the fuckin thing up so its a 2 way street.
after doing what i suggested above for a week, tell her in your next argument that its a matter of respect and her sexist behavior to stfu. its not the mans job to help her use a freakin toliet.
when she freaks out about that tell her you will comprimise and respect her by putting the seat down if she puts it back up after she's done.

it's more fun if after she goes to bed you cover the bowl in plastic wrap, place the lid and seat down and then go to bed yourself, when she gets up for that late night pee.... that'll teach her
if she hasnt learned anything from that experience, apply a light film of baby oil to the seat, after she gets her oily, wet butt off the now urine covered floor she may realize that it doesnt matter which position the seat is in

Just do this. Constantly leave the toilet seat down to make her happy, but then do your best to soak every square inch of it in urine every time you have to whizz.
After a few days of her sitting down in your own stagnant bodily fluids, she might appreciate the fact that you were leaving the seat up for her own protection.
It will either blow up in your face and result in a TV being thrown through the window, or you two will reach some sort of understanding and compromise. It's probably 50/50.

I used to live with a dyke and she gave me shit about the toilet seat being up for like 2 weeks. Then I told her that I'm paying rent regularly, and on time, and not to bother me.
She shut up after that
It's a rediculous argument, and I don't know why women still think they can bring this shit up. Tell her that if she wants the seat down all the time she better have dinner ready when you get home with a beer in a frosted mug.
Equal rights is equal rights. If she wants to do gender roles, do gender roles.

How about you get a seat that has the front 2-3 inches removed. That way you can leave the lid down and still piss on the front lip a bit.
Or whoever said to put both lids down everytime, seems to have some experience in the matter and I'd go with that, for the time being.
Or you could always let your balls drop and continue to do what is necessary to maintain your manhood.

I feel your undesired misery...just a few moments ago my fiance called me to tell me I didnt bring the trash out. Mind you, Im at work, supporting both of us, and she calls to bitch about the trash. I wanted to hurl my phone across my office and swig the bottle of knob creek thats in my file cabinet in case of emergencies like this.
About toilets seats in my home...I have been trained to put them down...mentally Im scared from her constant nagging about that whenever im done taking a piss, my body shuts down and by some force of great womens bitchery I automatically put it down. Its sad.

My mother ingrained into me and my brother to sit down when we use the restroom at home. I thought is was stupid, but after having to clean up piss from my 6 year old everytime he decides to stand up and pee, i understand wtf she was talking about. I make the little fireman sit from now on. Standing is for public restrooms, where sitting is hazzardous for your health. When a guy stands up and pee's, no matter how carefull they are, piss spashes out in little drops all over everthing, including a guy's own shoes and pants. Pretty sick IMO.
I do love to pee all over everything outdoors tho. It just seems right.

all women like that want is for people to agree with them and obey there every move like there queens. all about attention and trying to grow balls
the best thing to do is not talk to them at the "first" thought that you might not be agreeable...only talk about things you KNOW you will agree with.
as for actually doing things, just do wtf you want and when she trys to talk to you just completely ignore her like it don't matter....because it doesn;t!! once you realize the bullshit she wants doesn't matter she has lost ALL power over you and has now become unimportant....she has then lost control
the key then, is to control her otherwise she will be confused and not know her place...its all a power struggle...google the "pecking order" you will learn ALOT about how to deal with her then.
everyone wants to be king, you gotta put people in there place. realize who needs who more.

I have the same damn problem. No one else in my house seems to know how to take the trash out. Its as simple as lifting the bag out of the trash can and taking three steps outside to put it in the bin.
Everyone just stacks more and more trash on top of the garbage can until I get home to take it out. Then I have to play jenga with a pile of trash thats twice as high as what could actually fit in the can. And most of it is empty cardboard soda boxes that no one bothers to smash down. I should really take a picture next time, its unbelievable.

I told her next time she calls to have a better reason than to bitch about the trash, I also said, "Hey, since your not working, mind bringing it out yourself?" The trash better not be sitting there when I get home. Ive learned to keep calm during these situations...more comes out of it, like the trash will probably be taken out when I get there.

Next time she nags you, sit down and politely tell her its not going to happen. If she wants the seat down, she needs to check and make sure it's down just like you check, and make sure it's up. If she continues to bitch after being so polite, and patient with her, remove the seat from the toilet.

Come to think of it, it probably took her longer to call you to bitch about it than it would have to just take it out. wtf...

exactly, it baffles my mind to think the energy it takes for her to pick up her phone, call my job, speak to the receptionist, have the call transferred to my office and then bitch about the trash...women make no sense to me.

Unless you live in a frat house, toilet seats belong in the down position.
But leaving it up three times in two weeks is no big deal. Still, it is an act of love to dutifully put the seat down for your woman. If she gets bent out of shape about it, she might want to examine her expectations.
Anyone who falls in deserves it.

Actually, this is a good idea. When you flush the toilet with the lid open, a fine mist of urine-and-shit-infused water sprays all over the bathroom, including your toothbrush and towel.
Check it out: http://www.tesh.com/ittrium/visit?path=A1x97x1y1xa5x1x76y1x241fx1x9by1x2424x1y5x49a2x5x1
To the OP: I doubt that your gf is really upset about the toilet seat. When someone gets melodramatic about a fairly trivial event, it usually means that there is something more serious which they are afraid to address. It might be time for a heart-to-heart talk about what is REALLY going on.

Do you have any idea how humiliating it is to fall into the toilet? That's fucking nasty. Put the seat down.
I live with my boyfriend and he doesn't seem to have a problem with it. It's all about changing your habits.

When Dick leaves the seat up, and I "fall in" and yes, it happens a lot, I laugh, and jokingly yell at him, he laughs, and I go wash my bum. Not a big issue. Sounds to me like you guys must have either a great relationship, and there's nothing else to argue about, or you are both too petty, arguing about something that really makes NO difference at the end of the day...

You should be rightfully humiliated if you don't have the sense to check the god damn toilet seat before you sit down.

If you've been automatically sitting down to pee for 30 years and you've just moved to a house where the toilet seats don't automatically go down (like they used to), yes you are going to bitch and complain about falling in. Taking a shit or a piss is an activity that is virtually autonomic you do it so often.
Men check because they either sit down or stand up. Women automatically sit down.
Your gf is going to complain until one of you adjusts. Even if she doesn't fall in she's going to see it up and know that you don't care if she falls in or not, which is frankly disrespectful.
Edit: You should decide to either leave it up or down. If you put it down to appease her and then get lax about it every now and then, that's sort of a sneak attack. She doesn't know what to expect. Consistency is the key here. Anything else is dirty pool.

What I don't understand is how you can not see it when you walk in the bathroom. Where the fuck is your toilet located that you don't have to actually look at the damn thing when you go to use it, even if you're not consciously looking for it?

that made alot of sense at first and almost had me feeling sorry for women but then i got to thinking
everytime i sit down i always grab the seat first to guide me down/support me. because of this i always look to make sure the seat is down.
i live in a house with a women so the seat is always down, yet i still check nomatter what regardless if im standing or sitting.
i mean in the back of everyones mind there must always be the idea that the seat could be up...so anyone who thinks otherwise and decides to go skinny dipping does it because they "expect" things to be done for them.

I've never done this. I don't think women want to touch a toilet. Ever.

Nothing's being "done for them". Somebody put it up and didn't put it back in the standard position: down.

If you've just woken up, are hung over, drunk, sleepy, thinking about something else, yelling at your kids to get the FUCK out of the bathroom, mommy needs privacy, you don't look at the toilet. In my house the toilet is squished against a wall, sort of behind the door, so if you walk in and sit down you really don't even see the toilet.
This is a big problem in the morning because if you wear contacts or glasses, chances are you cannot see two feet in front of your face without them. It's not like you're going to stick your face WAAAAAAY down into the bowl to see if somethings awry.

Are your legs that nasty that you won't touch the toilet seat with your hands? And yes, something is being done for them, it's being put down. Men have to put it up AND down. You're just being illogical and thinking your point of view is the standard position.

Putting the toilet seat up is not how the toilet is meant to be used. It's for SITTING. It's not like WE put it up. Our roommate/partner puts it up. Therefore they should put it down.
I have a solution though! Piss in the fucking sink. Or out the goddamn window.

Me personally I put the toilet seat how it is truly made to be, and that's with the cover down. Every time. I just think it's stupid that girls get so pissed about it, self centered cunts.

THIS is an issue for many relationships? Wow.
I honestly don't know what I or my girlfriend do with the toilet seat. I'm pretty sure I put the seat and top down the majority of the time.
As for blaming someone else for falling into the toilet, that's just fucking lame. Also, making the cop out that you "aren't used to looking at what position the seat is in", that's just as lame as well. After falling into the toilet a couple times, I'm sure you'll get used to paying attention naturally.

Here's a thought... If you leave the seat down, and he doesn't notice, he'll pee on it, right? Then who's gonna be sitting in pee? Not him! If he leaves the seat up, and you don't notice, you fall in, then who's gonna be swimming in the toilet? Not him! So maybe instead of bitching, you should take some initiative, and look at your toilet before you sit on it, and perhaps leave the seat UP so nobody pees on it, and everybody knows where it will be when they get there. All this complaining makes me want to piss directly onto your toilet seat, then leave it up, also forgetting to flush, so either way, you'll be sitting in my pee.

Obviously this is not an issue for me. I'm sticking up for this guy's wife and trying to explain that there are RATIONAL reasons for women to get pissed about this.
Unfortunately like all men most guys have clamped their hands firmly over their ears and started screaming "I DONT CARE WHAT YOU SAY WOMEN ARE IRRATIONAL SELFISH CUNTS."

It's a simple idea, Not my problem=Not my responsibility, If you don't want toilet water or pee on your bum, check the toilet before sitting on it, or become a lesbian, and live in a home without men. Personally, I fully support the lesbian idea...

A) I didn't call you specifically a cunt. (I'm pretty sure I'm the one you're referring to in this thread.) B) I'm perfectly willing to listen to any and all argument a woman has for anything. I just see no good reason someone can get upset about a toilet seat being left up. You're the one who wants it down, so put it down. We're the ones who want it up, so we put it up, why can't it work both ways? Are you okay with guys asking girls to go make them lunch just because they're girls?

I really don't understand how anyone can even try to argue this point. If you just blindly sit down without ever checking to see if the seat is there or not... I really feel for you when you use a public bathroom in a festival or airport or some such. It's your own damn fault. Do you also eat candy without checking to see if the wrapping is still on? Goddamn candy corporation, putting plastic all over those delicious treats.. fucking bastards, I almost choked to death on that plastic.
Seriously though. Putting the seat up AND down may be an act of courtesy... but it's certainly not a law. If you just expect it to be down all the time, and not covered in piss.. well you may need to check your priorities in life. I agree with vortex that equal rights are equal rights. My point stands that if you expect to do nothing to use the bathroom then men should also do nothing and just leave the seat down. It's not hard to LOOK and see what is going on before you sit.

See, I started this thread so I could show the feedback to my wife.
But now its so full of women bashing language I dare not.
I don't have any interest in suggesting women are stupid. Men have equally stupid issues we must concede to in due time, but the toilet seat issue, i want to get the message across once and for all, that you DON'T have to be happy that you're forced by nature to SIT to pee, But to blame the inherent hazards of that necessity on those who don't share it to the point of tailored expectations of procedural roles based on sex is a HUGE step backward in sexual equality.
In war, who do you blame? the one who starts the war, or the one who is the cause? In this case its all women, so the blame is easy.
So for the sake of family bliss (as i concede theres no way i will always remember) I'm putting a sign on the seat to remind myself to put the lid down. AND a big ostentations sign on the outside of the bathroom door that says "Look before you sit, or blame yourself"
Both are unattractive, but the fact that BOTH are there drives home the idea of equality and compromise.
I give to this silly quirk but only under the condition that the CAUSE is addressed. visibly and appropriately.
A toilet seat issue is a cause a woman creates, by making the issue her enemy, thusly the toilet seat cause shall be her nemesis. And by nature, one MUST adapt to ones own nemesis or neither can exist.

You should could come home drunk one night, smack her around, call her worthless, n then piss on the seat cover while leaving it up. See if she still complains about it

Why can't the woman change HER habits and check the seat position before she sits down?
And no one called you a cunt.
They were talking about women in general.

I love this thread, hate the issue.

I almost like this idea, but of course the exposed flushing is really, really disgusting now that I think about it. Sanitation and cleanliness should take priority here.
Mitchnast - it's too bad you can't show this to your girl; besides the rampant misogyny, there are a bunch of good points here.
So much to say about such a silly issue - "Why are you yelling at me? Did I piss on the seat? No, then what's the problem?"

i may be wrong, but i think alot of women like to pee in the dark at night. seriously i had a sleep over at a friends house and his milf was passed out on the couch. she got up to take a whizz and didn't turn the lights on and even left the door cracked open. she wasn't drunk at the time thow so that wasn't it
i know a couple other women who do this exact same thing as well, its really creepy who leaves the door open? do they want people to come in and see them? but why leave the lights off then?

When I'm in my own house I never bother closing the door unless theres someone in a nearby room. And then its only to spare them from from hearing my take a leak.
No one is gonna walk in because they can clearly see that the bathroom is occupied. I feel theres a better chance that someone is going to walk in when I have the door shut.
For some reason, sometimes people I have over will close the door behind them after they leave the bathroom. I can't understand why the hell they do that.

Could it be possible that us ladies aren't always doing something for the interest of men?
Often times in the middle of the night the urge to pee is strong enough to wake me up only half-way, and so I stumble on autopilot to the bathroom, I don't even know if my eyes are open, much less whether or not I turn the light on, or who might be interested in my urination habits.
Perhaps this lady whom you refer to as a MILF, (further driving home the idea that she exists only for what makes her interesting to men) really had to pee, was half asleep, and didn't realize that her son's pervy friend might be considering her late-night call from nature was somehow an invitation to watch her pee in the dark...
Just a thought...

If I can lift the toilet seat, she can put it down.

We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter." --Max Planck

does your toilet have a lid? put the lid down too each time, then she'll have to pay attention and lift the lid up everytime she pees. so she'll have to get used to checking anyway

Personally I close both seat and lid, otherwise the cat/dog WILL drink out of it even if they have fresh water in a clean bowl and that's gross.
I've even seen my old dog eat cat shit but that's a whole nother story..
It seems that the best position for the toilet seat AND lid when not in use is the closed position. This is for sanitary as well as equality reasons.
Now here is what really bugged me...I ALWAYS hold the handle down until I see that all fecal and wiping material has exited the bowl. My old girlfriend would close the seat/lid and then just push the handle down and immediately release.
Needless to say when I'd open the lid I'd find what looked something like Won Ton soup in the toilet.

Putting the seat up IS being considerate. Putting it down should be their job if they want it down. Logic FTW
Women NEVER need the seat up. If they lived alone, it would always be down.
Where men live alone, the seat goes up and down for THEM.
That's why some women feel like, it's the mens job to put it down.
Guys have to sit on the seats too. Do you want to sit on guy pee? No, so you put it up, so you don't have to sit on guy pee, when you need it down.
Maybe the solution for some of you is to have his and her toilets in the house. I bet it will become the next thing like his and her vanity sinks in the master bath.
For the OPs consensus records, my husband always puts it back down.
