NFL Draft 2008
    #8328208 - 04/25/08 09:25 PM (5 years, 25 days ago)

YES, i am one of those dorky fans who gets hyped up for draft day. I always have.

This year again, you never know whose going to be a stud or a dud, but it's fun to project.

I don't think McFadden is going to be as great as everyone has him. I think alot of his hype is a result of Adrian Peterson taking the NFL by storm.

Chris Long, really impresses me as a DE. What a beast. And you KNOW he's got the genes to succeed in the NFL.

Now for the Steelers what i'd like to see in the first two rounds:

O-line. A strong stallwart run-blocker, to complement Kendall Simmons or Marvel Smith.

I'd also like to see a strong pass-rushing DE, something that the steelers haven't done much with since drafting Aaron Smith.

In the second round, it would be nice to see the team pick up a big-bodied WR or cover CB. Although this year, not much depth of talent at WR.

But i'm hearing lots of rumors that they're going to pick up Jonathan Stewart from Oregon. That would be an interesting complement to Willie Parker.

I haven't really been too into it this year. Couldn't find any draft mags and lost interest.

yeah it's tough really

many years if i'm not up to date with all the happenings in college football, it's hard to really understand and know what to expect from the draft.

This so happens to be one of the years where i do follow many prospects through their college season going into the pros.

It's exciting when you watch someone play and you KNOW they're going to make it huge.

Like watchin Plaxico Burress play at MSU, making it all look like kid's play.

Ive got my beer ready for today and tomorrow. This is really the first year I followed college pretty closely. As a Charger fan I get worried despite AJ Smiths record on trades and draft picks... it wasnt too long ago that we took Ryan Leaf. I know AJ Smith wasnt the GM at the time but it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

San Diego has a lot of depth as it is so I am thinking we should pick up a right tackle, a power running back (Jacob Hester?) or maybe another CB (I really like Brandon Flowers for round 1). To be honest though I am not sure if a round 1 pick even benefits us that much. Seems like with the depth we have it may just waste our money.

Maybe AJ has a deal in the works to trade the pick for some 2nd or third round picks.

I feel so sorry for Darren Mcfadden.

What a horrible team to be drafted by...

I thought the Raiders made a bad decision with McFadden. With the running game they have now they dont really need a guy to carry every down. Their current system works well for split backs and specifically the guys they already have. But, I guess that is how the draft works. We will see how things pan out for them.

I can't think of many scenarios in which having McFadden in your offense would be a bad thing.

When you have bigger possitions of need with a system that doesnt require an every down back. McFadden is good but they didnt need a running back. They played the "best available player" card which only works sometimes. My guess is with the amount of money they have spent already they will end up trading McFadden or cutting some other key players.

well, it's hard to kind of look at

i mean, the other really glaring major needs for the Raiders are at OL and WR, which i think, were kind of lower on people's rankings at that point in the draft.

Al Davis, he just does crazy shit. Raiders have always been known for making ballsey moves with the draft. Sometimes it doesn't work (Robert Gallery) and sometimes it does (Bo Jackson).

But yeah, filling in another RB, considering LaMont Jordan and Fargas are still there, may have been a stretch.

Either way, it's going to be interesting watching the Raiders next year.

Yesterday's picks were nice, but surprising for the Steelers.

Rashard Mendenhall, nobody thought he'd drop that far.

It's not really the most GLARING need for the steelers, having a complement to Parker. But then why would they sign Mewelde Moore?

Mendenhall's a stud though, and i understand how teams may have felt with that guy dropping that far.

Second round, Sweed, was a solid pick. I was hoping for Malcolm Kelly, mother fucking Redskins took him one pick above Pittsburgh.

But Sweed will fit in. It was smart not to pick up WR's till the 2nd round for teams that needed WR's.

It's not like pittsburgh needs an all-star tall WR like back when they drafted Burress (at the time the only starting WR was Hines Ward, Troy Edwards had left after his mediocre run). They just need a tall guy to catch balls in the end zone or on the outside.

Still very interesting. I thought at one point in the draft Colbert would go after a DE. But then i guess DE's playing in a 3-4 don't have to be sack-grabbing studs.

I liked the Stealers selections overall. I too questioned Mendenhall but why not take him with him falling that far. I dont think they will use him much but he isnt bad to have as a backup. Dixon... not sure where that came from but we'll see.

As for my Chargers... I dont know why we took a second CB in round 6. I think Hester was our best pickup in this draft due to how well rounded he is. Definately a power back that can fill in the Turner short yadage role.

I just wonder if he'll be able to play the same roll in the NFL that he did in college. He's really not that big. Maybe he'll be able to put some weight on.

Bears = Worst Draft Ever.

Wake me up next year.

We should be bad enough to have the #1 pick by then.

NO FUCKING QUARTERBACK!?

Yeah, because we had no needs at that position.

And what the fuck do we have another TE for!?  We JUST DRAFTED THE #1 TE IN THE DRAFT LAST YEAR.

Jesus Fucking Christ but I hope they string Jerry Angelo up from a gibbet on Lake Shore Drive.

What a fucking travesty.  How do you go on television yesterday morning and say you really don't see yourself making a defensive selection, and THEN DRAFT TWO FUCKING DEFENSIVE BACKS.

ugh.

:crankey:

No, they're going to need him.

Yeah, or maybe Minnesota will give us Booty, who we could've gotten instead of this multitude of defensive players that WE DON'T NEED.

I love Sexy Rexy, but he just can't be our QB w/out a brain transplant and 6-inch lifts put into his shoes.

If you liked that, read this...

Quote:

Fuck It, I'm Throwing It Downfield - By Rex Grossman

Is that Berrian? I think he’s triple-covered. You know what? Fuck it. I’m throwing it downfield.

Yeah, I see Jones open on the flank. But fuck that. Dumpoff passes are for faggots. I’m fucking Sexy Rexy Grossman. I can get that ball in there. And, even if I can’t, I bet I’ll be able to pull it off the next go round. I like throwing the ball long. It makes my dick hard.

What’s that? I should throw a quick slant? Fuck that. That’s gay. Button hook? Gay. Flare out? Gay. Screen pass? Kevin Spacey gay. This is fucking football. You can’t just expect wins to come to you. You can’t massage that shit. You gotta grab that game by the throat and rape the ever-loving shit out of it. You think a 5-yard out is gonna win you a game? You’re a pussy. This ain’t John Shoop running this offense. Sexy Rexy’s got the arm. The dragon. You gotta unleash the dragon.

Okay, I’m throwing it. Nice. Look how far it went. I look good. I bet I made that Pats cheerleader wet her panties with that throw. She fucking wants me. I bet she likes it over a stair railing. I can hit that with 100% accuracy, my dear. Mmmmmm. I am delicious.

Oh shit. Looks like Samuel caught it. Again. Oh well. It still felt fucking great to throw that shit. Tell me that wasn’t one of the prettiest passes you ever saw. You know what? Not only am I gonna throw it long the next time we hit the field. I’m gonna throw it even longer. Harder. You see that kid in wheelchair sitting in the end zone bleachers? I’m gonna nail him right between the fucking eyes with a Sexy Rexy fastball. Why? Because I can.

This is Rex Grossman we’re talking about here. We’re talking 210 lbs. of twisted steel and sex appeal. I’m not just a gunslinger. I’m a cumslinger. Throwing that ball long tells all the Rexettes that I am fucking out there. On the edge. Where I gotta be. The ladies love the danger. The unpredictability. Oh, maybe I’ll tease them with a pretty touch pass every now and again. But then I’m gonna go right back to pumping that ball out for all it’s worth. It tells them I throw like I fuck. That’s how we do things in the sexy business.

Tell me you’re not turned on right now. I am.

Dude, Rex's heart is right, amen? It's just that he needs Elway's body to pull it off. But as far as heart goes, I'd drink a few with Jimmy Mac and Rex.

You old enough to remember Jimmy??

I don't remember watching him play, but I grew up in Chicago in the 80s.

I remember the VHS that made me learn how to use the VCR was my Dad's copy of the '85 Super Bowl. I grew up watching that all the time. I could call half of that game from memory.

The '85 Super Bowl, the whole neighborhood firing guns and fireworks into the air after Bulls championships, and the smell of Old Style in the bleachers at Wrigley are some of my earliest memories, sports or otherwise.

It's weird that you were there and I was in the middle of nowhere, but we have the same love. I LOVE Chicago sports, and have since '84, but they have honestly broke my heart.

I don't know the people in Chicago, but I love the teams. And I am saddened by the ownership we have. :foreheadslap:
