When you've just finished simmering grain and are trying to get 'em down to field capacity, it's a lot easier to just add dry verm until it's at the right moisture level. It saves time, increases bulk and provides for greater water storage.
If you're gonna use something like Tyvek on a jar lid, make sure you know exactly where the hole is. I've had a lot better success with just putting micropore tape over the holes than I have with Tyvek lids simply because it allows for much more precise aim and less chances of tears.
If you're gonna grow sclerotia, brown rice in growbags has worked great for me. It's fairly easy to prepare and allows for very quick growth and prolific sclerotia formation.
