about to make cake tea out of 16 cakes.

My invitros gave me some pretty nice yields (for invitro)... but are refusing to fruit again once I stuck them back in the jars.

its been about 4 weeks, so I guess there not gonna fruit again. (Ive seen another strain fruit flush after flush with invitro, i dont know why this one wont, but whatever)

do you think theyd fruit if placed in a terrarium, its already been close to 4 weeks of nothing?

so anyway, Im gonna make some tea since they wont grow shroomies :smile:

Im gonna drink it with my boy (probably not all of it as 16 is a shitload). I was just wondering if it matters when you drink it? can I drink it cold? can I drink it a few days later? does it go bad?

Ok, this is the second time I've seen someone say you can use the actual mycelium growing on the substrate for a psy experience.

Is this true or myth?

Are the cakes psychoactive themselves?

METHODS

The spores used in this experiment were obtained legally through an advertisement in High Times Magazine from Psylocybe Fanaticus (PFTek Seattle, WA). The spores were received in 10 mL syringes in an aqueous solution. The spore solutions were each viewed using a 1250X-magnification microscope.

The original spore solutions were analyzed by TLC and by GC/MS. No psilocyn or psilocybin were detected in any of the spore solutions.

Psilocybin was not detectable in the new mycelium or the spreading mycelium (analyzed by TCL and GC/MS).

Psilocybin was detectable by TLC and GC/MS methods in the mature mycelium when it begins to form "Hyphal knots" - pinheads and primordia. And of course the growing shrooms had detectable psilocybin also.
CONCLUSION

The psychoactive drugs psilocyn and psilocybin were not detected in the mycelium, the earliest stage of development of the mushroom. These drugs were identified in the mycelium knots, the earliest stages of the fruiting body of the mushroom.

The author (Susan Gross) wishes to acknowledge Dr. David McLaughlin, Plant Biology Department, University of Minnesota for his time and assistance in identifying the mushroom, and his explanations about the classifIcations of fungi and the development of the mushroom. This project was supported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Minneapolis Office which generously provided the supplies.

I have personally met someone who used an old cake to make tea. He broke it up by hand into some cranberry juice which was brought to boiling and simmered. This was strained (so no vermiculite/mycelium in the actual tea) and the juice was then imbibed. One cake produced a mild, but very significant trip. Probably about a gram and a half dried worth.

seems like it would taste like ass...don't know if i could stomach... i mean im sure you would pull some alkaloids but wouldn't you pull verm brown rice flour.... ughhhhhh yuck

about 9am i took that wbs cake i had and boiled it in water, honey, makers mark.

I am having a level 1 trip.. no visuals but things do kinda "breathe" I jut got done watching 300, which was pretty bad ass..

the cake method works but its not very strong, and dont tell me boiling kills the psych's because that ain't true, night before last I boiled a bunch of aborts from a coir cake and I tripped so hard I couldnt type, walk, stand, all I could do was lay down, weightless , time escaped colors flourished and rivers of patterns would flow across the edges of carpets and pictures, I would look outside and it reminded me of something like the movie beetlejuice or shrek, trees looked "fake" but not like fake as you would think, more like a CGI type thing...

anyways im trippin a little, and its from a boiled cake sorry ifg im ramblin but its hard to focus but its easier to talk.. colors are amzing right now and the shroomery board colors are fuckin badass...

i could go on and on but you get the ideA

use honey and it taste just like green tea, its not as bad as you think... im going to be drinking this all day, i gotta be at work in a few hours and I hope to be trippin nuts

I say your wasting your fucking cakes on something you could have such a better trip/yield from. Mushroom mycelium doesn't have nearly as much alkaloids as the mushroom themselves. You'd be wasting a hell of a lot. Do what you will though.

id reccomend it after they stop growing mushrooms.. u dont wanna eat up all your crops so just boil the cake

espcilly for us new to growing, like me, crops arent easy to come by...

well my cakes stopped growing after one fucking flush. and since it's been 4 weeks i'm thinking it might be to late to stick them in a terrarium?????

that's why i'm gonna make some tea.

I just woke up, so I'm gonna make some new cakes... and then it's tea time :smile:

dump the cakes into 100% cranberry juice.
crush up several vitamin c tablets and toss em in.
cover :rolleyes:

, shake the shit out of it.
strain the juice through an old t-shirt, squeeze it out good.

enjoy your frothy :eek:

cranberry cocktail.

this works best with unfruited mycelia, but should work with old cakes as well.

I did dunk them and they haven't flushed since... you think I should dunk again???

I've done invitro b4 and had multiple flushes and i'm doing the exact same thing I've done in the past (the only thing I could think of is air exchange as I used a diferent drill bit last time)

RR said that sometimes invitro's only give 1 flush, could it just be the strain that i'm using?

I don't see how it could be anything else, because I did get a good initial flush.

I'm not using a terrarium for these cakes... I just put them back into the jars. I have a terrarium, but it was occupied at the time so I didn't put these cakes in it.

do you think putting them in at this point would be beneficial?

Pf kinda sucks invitro. Hell invitro sucks. You'll get better results fruiting it in a $20 worth of materials Terrarium.

Yeah, lack of air flow. Lower CO2 levels are a primary pinning trigger.

ok... so what should I do?

a) place cakes into a terrarium even though they've been invitro doing nothing for a month. (and should I re-dunk N roll?)

b) increase airflow by opening them once a day?

c) just make tea and start over.

1. 5 inches of well drained perlite NOT MIRACLE GROW PERLITE
2. Drill 1/4th inch holes all over while still maintaing 100% rH
3. Invest in a Analog Hygrometer.
4. Leave lid ajar
5. Mist and fan at least twice a day UNTIL YOU SEE PINS, THEN STOP. MIST BEFORE FAN
6. Wait and Harvest.

I did 8 pf cakes, ground up, soked for 4 hours, strained and drank. Taste like shit and no form of a buzz, don't waste your time.

I checked the ingredients on my miracle grow perlite, and it's fine. It's just perlite, haven't had any problems.

For the record, I've done this with a few spent cakes. It works, but very mild effects. More for the "waste not want not" crowd than anything.

To those concerned about taste any shroomy tea...throw a packet of hot cocoa mix in with it. :thumbup:

The guy I know thought it tasted exactly like cranberry juice. It was strained. People need to lighten up. No one is suggesting that you just brew up cakes. Rather, if you have an unproductive/exhausted cake you can get something from it.

Just make sure to boil it in cranberry juice. Just straining doesn't seem to work.

use cranberry juice... i heard it works better. i used like 4 full pint cakes of WBS... cuz i had no room to spawn it and felt like experimenting.
