Spawning from rye to compost.

"Hi, I know most of the people here appreciate DIY methods and extensive research when it comes to growing your shrooms, and I've read up on as much as I can at the moment about mushrooms, the colonization process, the fruiting and it's parameters, unfortunately I don't count with enough time to go through with most of the advanced stuff you guys are so familiar with. So I'd like to know what would be the best and possibly simplest way to fruit my shrooms off my 3 lbs. grain grow bag, thanks for any input in advance."
Nevermind this! I want to spawn to a bulk substrate now.

The simplest way would be to fruit inside the bag. The best way would be to spawn the bags to a bulk substrate like horse poo or straw. I'm guessing by your post that this is your first grow, so I would just fruit them invitro until you do some research on spawning to bulk substrates.

Yeah, I want to fruit inside the bag, but how do I do that? Do I need to add or do anything special? Or do I just open up the bag, expose it to fluorescent light, and fan it/expose it to oxygen? Is that what you mean by 'invitro'? Thanks.

The bags have a filter patch, right? You pretty much just set them in your closet and wait about a month.
Invitro means "in the bag" as opposed to taking the substrate out of the bag and fruiting it that way.

Since Mushbox lost their sponsorship on this forum, you might have better luck at Mushbox's own Shroomtalk forum. Good luck!

Really? Seems too simple to me but I'll try it out!

Well I don't see how forum politics should prevent someone from giving good advice, I mean it's the same thing we're all growing, I just specified the brand in case someone was familiar with it. And I accidentally selected 1995 in the birth date field to register in those forums and it won't let me register properly again, I probably won't buy from there again anyways. Although I've found better much better products, I still bought this bag so I don't want my money to go to waste.
Thanks for the advice.

Mushbox isn't the most popular vendor around here. Good luck with your grow

All you do to fruit in the bag is cover the sides of the block with black tape so only the top gets light, give it 12 hrs a day roughly and wait til the bag is full of shrooms. Don't open it or do anything cept black it out

In my experience, grain bags (rye, bird seed, etc.) rarely spontaneously fruit invitro and when they do the yields are terrible. But yeah, good luck with that.

Alright, what if I place the colonized substrate on a tupperware container with moist perlite on the bottom? Would that be enough?

Probably not. Grains are best used as spawn to bulk substrates or cased. Try putting some moist vermiculite on top of the fully colonized grains and cross your fingers. There are other types of bags that do fruit invitro but if you just have grains in a bag its not going to work well.
With all the luck wished upon you in this thread, you almost can't fail. Good luck

Ohhhhhhh, now I understand some terms a little bit better! I think I am going to spawn to some compost from one of the sponsors!
I changed the title of this thread because I had more questions but I decided to search some more instead and I think I'm ready for this. Thanks a bunch, you've been more helpful than I expected.

Okay I swear this is my last question. Let's say I buy compost, break up my colonized rye spawn into it, then what is a simple way to store it for fruiting? Anything I can make with household materials like baking trays, tupperware, etc..?

I would agree with Workman on the Mushbox bags. If the bags are ONLY rye, wbs or some other grain, they won't fruit well invitro. If the bags are a mix designed for fruiting invitro, they should do well.
Examples:
^^^^^^^^^^^ These are NOT Mushbox bags.
You DON'T need to tape around the sides of the bag. All that does is limit the fruiting area to the top instead of all the way around the bag. You can take the substrate completely out of the bag to harvest, so mushrooms growing on the bottom and sides doesn't hurt anything.
