Spiritual experience on Mushrooms? Please take part in this study

Hello everyone, I am a Masters student studying at Middlesex University in London, England. For my dissertation I am distributing a questionnaire to anyone who believes they have had a spiritual experience on psychedelic mushrooms.
Some of you may already know, but there have been two major experiments that have proven in particular situations psychedelic mushrooms can occasion a mystical experience similar to those reported by saints and mystics. One is most well known as “the Good Friday Experiment” by Walter Pahnke and the other was titled “Psilocybin can occasion mystical-type experiences having substantial and sustained personal meaning and spiritual significance” by Roland Griffiths.
It is fairly well known that the mind-set of the user and the environmental setting of the trip are two of the biggest factors in shaping a drug experience. The use of psychedelics in religious ritual settings such as peyote in the Native America Church and the use of ayahuasca by Uniao do Vegetal creates religious type experiences. However, not very much is known about the set and setting being utilized by regular people to achieve spiritual experiences on psychedelics.
This questionnaire will mainly ask about your mind-set going into the experience and the setting of the experience. I want to see if I can find any similarities of set and setting amongst those who have had a spiritual experience on shrooms. Since spiritual experiences of this nature are usually positive knowing such information would be beneficial in terms of harm reduction because it may help reduce the chances of having a bad trip.
I assure that anyone who chooses to take part in this study will remain anonymous. Your names and the name of this website will not be included in the paper. When I have finished the research anyone who wants a copy of the results may receive one. Also, if you decide to participate but then change your mind you may withdraw from this study at any time.
If you have had what you consider to be a spiritual experience on shrooms and are able to take part in this study or you have any questions please either pm me or email me at wzvickery@gmail.com. I will then send you a copy of the questionnaire which you may complete at any time. There are about 20-30 open ended questions and it should take about 30 minutes to complete. When you are finished with the questionnaire you may email it to me at the above address. Please try to return the questionnaire within about three weeks.
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to participate.
Sincerely,
William

Try PMing the questionnaire for copying and mailing back for those interested in replying, with intact anonymity. Send an abstract of your dissertation and the cover sheet signed off on by your dissertation committee. A university catalogue documenting those professors and contact numbers for them are also in order. Too much trouble? Rather compromise the anonymity of Shroomerites by requesting personal mail addresses? Then Icelander is right on target and your inquiry is malevolent. It doesn't appear legitimate to me either, btw.

Jeez, he just said to email him. There's no way to tie it to your shroomery account; nobody's anonymity is being compromised. Make a hotmail/gmail account if you want to participate. People admit to drug use here every day.
You really think this is some sting to bust some random people for eating mushrooms?

That's all very well and good but this guy wants a lot of specifics, like where you were, how much you took, who you were with, what mindset you were in, etc. Unfortunately I am a devout atheist so anything seemingly spiritual that I have experienced has not been taken too seriously by me. Good luck with your report though.

Too harsh? Too many paranoids in the world with their own agendas. Psilocybin studies may have opened in the US, but the Netherlands just made them illegal. All a researcher has to do is check archives here to see the number of spirituality-related Psilocybin posts. But a brand newbe inquiring about personal experiences just alarmed me somewhat. OK, maybe not a DEA fanatic, but I'm still too suspicious to participate due to the extroverted generic friendliness of the inquiry.

Nah it just got to me that there's somebody who wants to document positive psychedelic experiences, they go to the Shroomery and all they got were sarcastic and rude responses.

agreed. i would be happy to participate if you provide the information that MarkostheGnostic suggests: tell us about about your thesis, your thesis committee, etc. provide some more details. and why not just post your questionnaire so that we can copy the questions and answer them and then e-mail or pm them back to you? you might have more success. until then, good luck.

I ate approximately 3/4 of an eighth, so... probably about 2.75-3 grams of the strongest mushrooms I've had to date at a river, on a sandy beach.
At first, I didn't really know what was happening, but soon they hit me like a ton of bricks.
I laid down on the beach and looked up at the rocks, I could see giant faces looking down on me, and the water looked very strange. Soon I was overtaken and just closed my eyes. I had extreme CEV's, and it felt like being inside of a winamp visualization or something. I completely lost my sense of self, and felt like I had become one with the universe, I was trying to remember who I was and where I came from, but couldn't.
The universal conciousness that connects everyone was all I could feel, it was telling me that everything would be alright, and no matter what happens, EVER, things would work out. I felt like I had died.
When I started to come down, I realized I was crying. Not tears of sadness, just emotional overload.
That's basically all I can explain, but it's almost impossible to explain what I felt and saw during that trip, and my explanation doesn't do it justice.

Thanks to anyone who's interested. Sorry if this project came off in the wrong way. I assure everyone this is a legitimate study that will hopefully contribute to a PhD later. Even though I've never participated on this message board before I've often used this website as an information resource. It is very difficult to locate people who have a) had a spiritual-like experience on shrooms and b) who are willing to talk about it. So I thought that these message boards would be a good place to find such people since from researching previous posts it seems a ton of you have had what you might consider a spiritual experience and you might be willing to discuss it. I realize that what "spiritual" means is highly subjective, so I leave it up to your personal judgment. For anyone who'd like to know:
My Program Leader is Eleonore Kofman. She is also a member of the ethics committee at me university who gave me approval to proceed. Her phone number is +44 (0)20 8411 6022 and email is e.kofman@mdx.ac.uk. My Dissertation Leader is Mel Evans. His phone number +44 (0)20 8411 6334 and email is m.d.evans@mdx.ac.uk. If anyone is worried about whether this project is for real, feel free to contact either of these professors.
To anyone interested I can give a copy of my dissertation so far. It's kind of large at about 10,000 words. And I can also give a copy of my ethics approval signed by the above faculty members.
This is a qualitative study where interviews would normally be more appropriate. Since I do not have the time or the resources to meet with people I have decided to use a questionnaire instead. Of coarse during an interview the interviewee would not be anonymous to me. Personally I think mushrooms are a good thing and I have no interest in getting anyone in trouble for using them. It is more important that the participant remain anonymous to the university faculty and the general public.
If there is anyone who wants to participate yet doesn't want me to know their email address perhaps WhiskyClone's idea will work. Just quickly make an anonymous gmail or hotmail account which should only take a minute. I forgot about the pm function on these message boards so that seems like a good option too.
I hope this informatioin helps!
Thanks.

A little more about my thesis. My Masters is in Social Policy and Social Research. A large part of this paper is about drug education in America. The dominant theory behind drug education is abstinence only. The "just say no" slogan sums it up neatly. This is the general underpinning for DARE which is the most popular drug education program in the US. Virtually every study done on DARE has shown that it does not work. The vast majority of students who go through DARE eventually use drugs. There have also been many studies which have shown the reason conventional drug education isn't working is because the goal of abstinence's is too narrow and unrealistic.
I'm sure a lot of you know there is a huge drug reform movement taking place in America and it is largely centered around the concept of "harm reduction". Rather then trying to stop drugs and drug use we should assume that drugs are an inevitable part of society and we should instead reduce the harms associated with unhealthy forms of drug abuse.
Many of the proponents for harm reduction in drug education recommend giving honest science-based information about drugs rather then misinformation and scare tactics.
My study is focusing on harm reduction for psychedelic drug education. Perhaps the most important factors in shaping a psychedelic drug experience is set and setting. A review of the literature for psychedelic drug use shows that the majority of positive experience had on psychedelics are those of a religious and/or spiritual nature.
So basically, knowing the set and setting utilized for spiritual experiences on psychedelics will be beneficial in terms of harm reduction education because knowing and giving out such information might reduce the chances of negative psychological effects which are also very common from psychedelic drug use.
I'm focusing on mushrooms in particular because of the precedent that exist established by the two controlled experiments I mentioned in my first post proving that in certain sets and settings mushrooms can occasion a mystical experience.
And of coarse I'm inspired by personal experience since I have had a couple of what I would consider powerfully spiritual experiences on mushrooms. The reason I'm spiritual at all today is largely because of those previous experiences.
