Aaalriiiighteeeeyyy guys....  One of my hunting partners and I went out today, and in about 1-2 hrs, nosed up about 100 specimens between the two of us.  These are the alleged, "Cyanofriscosa" variety, and this was my first encounter with this species.  I am now convinced that these are not a variant of Ps. cyanescens, they are just too dissimilar, and no Wavy Caps were located among the patches.

Note, not all the specimens are pictured- some drying, some printing, some still attached to their substrate.

We also found some Chlorophyllum rhacodes, Armillaria mellea, and Cantharellus sp.!!  Yum!

These 3 are Ps. subaeruginascens we found.

Alan gifted me some similar flags not long ago, though I never got around to planting them...  But I was delighted to see someone had the follow through!

wait till you see them in the same patch as cyans. That'll really bake your cake.

that's part of the reason why it still doesn't have it's own species name yet. Remember some years ago Stamets called it a 'possible' new species in California? After all this time they still can't get that 'possible' out of there

Obviously not cyans for us pickers, but they're having a hell of a time in the lab, because under a microscope, they're cyans

what makes it really difficult is that these do often grow by themselves, in their own patch. But then you'll start seeing patches where cyans are nearby, or part of the same patch, or even a patch where it was cyans last year, but now it's these

is evolution baby ¡
is the solution ¡...... sorry i was just singing a reggae song. :hypno:

i bet DNA will resolve all problem and  will no have all those species , many mushrooms are  genetically  related i bet they express some how  the same phenotype. macroscopic features or phenotype does  not mean that they genotype is different is just expression other genes , as the result of adaptation, and many other factors , change in climate,  and all the  creatures are evolving they never gonna be as fast as evolution  looking in the microscope in fact i starting to believe the microscope is not as important as DNA.
by the way cure cat  i love your last picture do you have a high resolution so i can put it as my desktop

Tahoe, I already told you, these posts cannot be deleted individually. All I can do is delete teh text, but the place holder of the posters avatar, and sig and everything will remain, and the text will read "This post has been deleted by CureCat".

That is why I ask that everyone refrain from chit chat. I cannot delete your posts completely, so please, let me deal with warning people privately if things get out of hand. Otherwise, everyone starts bickering and it just makes more clutter.

So please guys, stay on topic.

more from today

Check out the pins and knots. There are hundreds ust waiting for the rain

I started this area just a few months ago as a trial. My dog runs through it all the time but the mycelium is coming to the surface. I put some wheat grass seed in there for some humidity. It will be interesting if it fruits which I think it will.

Do these rhizos look healthy?

They taste like they should

No, if it pins then I will feed him the slug bait. I have a chicken wire to put up if it pins.
Him and I have alread had a talk about this. The bluing in this photo was from him thinking it was okay to kick it n the patch

yes, but so much of our urban hunting is actually stumbling across transplants; some intentional, some not. where oh where to draw the line

oh well. what has two thumbs and doesn't mind?

In faerie circles perchance I might, hope Elven honey bread to find.

Under hoary oak and willow I bound, to find such groves as can be found,
the sating mushrooms; spring's delight, as gifts from figures of the night.

it's wet enough to find some, if you're persistent and limit your searches to places within reach of the almighty sprinklers of providence.
