 Basic weed buying questions/etiquette, what general areas to meet hookups at?

I'm getting off probation anywhere from 2 weeks to a month from now and after that I'm in college. I'm nervous because I've never bought weed from anyone except my best friends who were always stocked and only really have a vague idea of how to get a connection.
I understand the basics, but what is some etiquette?
If it doesn't smell potent then just say like I dunno if i want this?
If I were to buy on campus should I sort of ask the person if I can see it on the scale before i buy it? Should I supply my own scale to weigh it before I buy? Or is that just buyer beware?
My friend used to get pretty good schwag, like some of the best stuff without visible thc crystals, for $55 an O. What should I expect to pay if it smells good but looks like regular green bud with red hairs and stuff?
Also, I was thinking maybe a hookah bar would be the first place i would look for bud since no one I know that's going to college with me smokes or has any hookups.

you should expect to pay anywhere between $10-$60 for a cut of weed. $60 being prettttty daaaaamn good weed, and $10 being pretty crappy. for $55 an ounce that weed you've had cant be all the great unless they were really connected.
but some of the ground rules are, you may get ripped of the first time or so by a jerk or two, but if you even suspect you are going to get ripped off, dont buy it. Judging weed by its smell can be a good indicator, though some of the best weed i've ever smoked has smelled like citris and not anything like actual marijuana.
go by the crystals and hairs on it, and if there are a lot of seeds in it (or hopefully not). that is all i can really say. for seedless expect to pay $25+ (unless you get a very good deal) for a cut.
Edit: and if your going to college, buying weed will NOT be a problem to scope out. chances are you will run into it within the first week of you being there, unless your hide in your dorm for the whole time.

I suggest you go to some parties on campus. Find the people smoking out, they will offer you some no doubt. Don't act like a dumbass and chill with them for the night. At the end of the night, ask them if you can hang again sometime. Boom... You're connected and you earned it.

Invest in a pair of hand scales if you don't know the people. After you make a couple of buys, you can decide whether or not to trust them, and its not bad etiquette.
How much you pay is all in quality. Unless you're friends with a grower, or buy from someone who is, you're lookin to pay 25$/ quarter ounce. Most dealers give discounts at Oz's and up.
As far as quality indication... if its shaky, not buddy, you shouldn't pay too much. I wouldn't shell out money for anything brown, either.
In regards to meeting people, parties are key. Look for people playing frizbee, dreadies, etc. Use the force, find the stoners.
Oh yeah, don't forget to smoke a bowl with your friendly dealer =D

Your old method is the best way to do it: buy it from friends.
UberDeepName had it right. Make friends with some stoners. Ask them if they know where to get a bag so you can pack a bowl with them every once in awhile too. Bam. Done.

I've gotten quarters that cheap before, but that's definitely not been the average anywhere I've bought a sack. Usually they're 40. On some rare occasions, people will try to go as high as 45 or 50. That usually gets a laugh and no money from me. :P

1/4 oz of chronic is at least 100 bucks unless you know a grower. 25 bucks a quarter is almost dirt weed.

yea, you guys must be talking about some pretty bad weed, an 8th is usually 40-45 bucks for anything that i would smoke, anything less than that is probabally not that great...around here at least
if your living in a dorm it wont be any problem, i met a very friendly drug dealer within an hour of moving in. when i needed connects i usually looked for people who smoke cigarettes, i find them easy to strike up a conversation with especially if you smoke too, just casual as possible ask "you wouldnt happen to know where i could find any ganga, would you?" it worked on the first try several times, amd worst that can happen is they say no
that and parties, most every party you go to will have folks smokin some bud

ok cool im soaking all the info in. yeah so i guess ill just look for the hippies and offer them a cigarette and try to strike up a conversation leading in that direction. and i guess i do know a handful of people that will be sophomores so i can ask around..

Dont try to act too cool. There's nothing more embarrasing than someone trying to "strike up a conversation" in a painfully self-consciously cool way. They'll suss out that you only want their weed before you open your mouth.
The only two ways to get contacts are, making friends with someone and then, more by chance than by intention, getting access to their deal, or by spotting a dealer and approaching them in a business manner, not trying to be their friend but being respectful and friendly obviously.
Bear in mind that most serious drug dealers are arseholes, and you probably dont want them as friends anyway.

Also the first time you buy off them be prepared just to swap money and weed without inspecting said weed first. If you get a good deal, great, if not, then the next time you buy, bring up the fact that the previous batch was disappointing and let them know you won't accept the same deal.

i've bought weed from hippies who were very polite, they even offered to scale it for me. when they found it didn't weigh outthey put more than enough so it weighd a gram or so more
but what Mr Kite said is true, most of my dealers are gangster homie g type people and can be dicks, but on the plus side these are the people that traffic it so they normally have tons.

thats weird, almost all the drug dealers i know are really cool, almost no "gangster g homie" types, i get it weighed out in front of my all the time by several different folks, most everyone who pre-bags their weed and sells it is just rippin folks off. i mean, why would anyone serious about weed rather have a pocket full of dime bags than a ziplock with an oz in it? i though it was standard that it gets weighed out each and every time. the key is that your drug dealer is also a pothead, because if they appreciate weed the way we do and they would have ounces around for themselves to smoke anyway theyr less likely to rip you off than someone whos just a middleman tryin to make a buck

Unless im in a pinch and REALLY have to be somewhere, i ALWAYS inspect the weed first, even if i have the SLIGHTEST inclination that the weed doesn't weigh out right, I will complain and say it looks short, most of the time this garuntees more weed....
and unless you are buying from someone trusted, usually the bag is going to be short, so its best to inspect it and complain before you get ripped off
but either way, your best bet isn't to find a "dealer", its to find a friend....that way you are always gonna get hoooked up hella fat, and you have a buddy thats always down to smoke :]

complaining doesnt always help, one of the most obnoxious things you can hear as a drug dealer is "this isnt a gram, its .7 at most" i knew a girl who told people to go fuck themselves everytime she heard something like that, and many a folk has gone weedless on account of it....but im sure her bags were light, makes sense why she heard it so often...
but yea, inspect the bag, the smell test is usually enough for me, and if you get ripped off, its not the end of the world, at least you smoked, right?

Because nobody with a good head on their shoulders is going to be driving around with an ounce in their car, but rather holding 3 or 4, $20 bags for quick sale. It's not fun to lose an ounce in a traffic stop but 3 or 4 grams is not as damaging to the drug dealer's finances.

if you get caught with three separate 20 sacks then the cops know you're dealing and you are effed... if you just have an ounce bag, yeah its more total weed but it could be for personal use...
anyways
i find it best to get weed off good friends, rather than buying it from dealers...
buying from dealers is shady, unless luck out and find a cool one...usually short bags with stems and seeds of mid quality, not great stuff. and even if they are peddling some chron, its WAY pricy
with friends, they are just going to give you a good deal everytime. if you buy large amounts of weed at a time this could get annoying to them, but i just get small amounts and get from friends who have LOTS

There's no need to be an elitist smoker. As long as weed isn't brown betty, I'll be glad to pay $25 for a quarter. If all you're smoking is chronic, it's easy to get burnt out and have crazy resistance, thus going through mad weed and spending more money than you have. There's time for chronic, but I don't have the money to smoke $200 every 3 or 4 days.
