Just like there are things that are legal that should be illegal, there are more that are legal and should be illegal.
The rich screwing over the poor is definitely one of them. Where is the line between giving people what they need and offering them what they want? That line is way too blurry to see, and the results can be ridiculously inhumane. The rich never see it, so out of sight, out of mind.

The rich weren't always rich. There are poor that screw over other poor for money. There are crack dealers that depend on the dumb ass crack heads to buy more crack. Fuck them, it's their fault.
If someone wanted to buy shit on a stick mixed with cocaine I would sell it. They would come back everyday for more and I would make more money. Fuck them. They are dumb and can't control themselves. After I get my degree I will try my best to work for a tobacco or a drug co... Fuck the sheep.
The point is that nothing is pushed on people. It is offered. All the bullshit clothes and cars are offered. People buy a ton of that shit and get in debt. It's their fault. They are just as stupid as the crack heads.

You're still in college. The way of thinking you're describing is exactly how sheep think. People are working their asses off following the almighty dollar and ethics are shit because of it. The dollar comes first. It's a matter of survival, not just for us but generations to come.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not innocent of taking advantage of the system. I'm a TV producer, and if there is any job where you feel like an elitest because of the ability to control the masses, it's mine. I just try very hard to keep my integrity and dignity a forefront in my mind. It makes it all a little more bearable.

I feel your pain. You cannot make ppl care about the world, ecology, the good of your commo man etc. all you can do is lead by example, and stop tying yourself up in knots waiting for others to come around to your side of the fence.
I live on a block, where my immediate neighbors live 20 to a house. (same size house as me, and unfortunalye we are semi attatched) have 3 SUV's and only one peson drives each of them at a time. They blast their music constantly, ignore their children, get drunk every weeked, and are working 12 hours shifts. But they are happy.
try it sometime.
I used to hate them, till i realized i was the one sitting up at night hating on them, and they were fast asleep.
NOw I just smile when i see them toiling away. I have a good life. I help those in need when i can. I know that when i vote i NEVER see any of my neighbors. But it doesnt stop me.
If the time presents itself, you should move, but dont expect it to be any better mate.
PS have you seen Idiocracy? its good -make you feel better - you should rent it.

ego, you arent alone man, i know what it is like to be completely alienated from 99% of the human race that you come in contact with. i wish that there was a better way of relating to them, but it seems hopeless. i want to be able to communicate with people, but i dont know how... you know?

Your way of thinking that 99% of the world is beneath you? I think that's all in your head personally. Nothing wrong with confidence, but it sounds to me if you can't find a way to communicate with others because they are not up to your par, then you are the one with the self esteem issues.

But they don't know that they don't know anything. I'm sorry but I have to agree with Ego Death, there are a giant load of idiots. I find myself explaining irony to people on a regular basis because they always ask me what irony means. A lot of people can't point out the middle east on a map. Who's Edgar Allen Poe? Is the moon really made of cheese? It never ends.
I don't consider myself that intelligent, but come on.
Also, I might come from a below average locale. I've been in a math class where the average was 28% (Passing grade was 55%).

I can't even imagine how you can claim any integrity in TV producing. Unless you work for HBO which has reasonable shows. Network and basic cable television however are never really worth watching

once I get my architecture qualifications pinned down, I'm off to Spain or Italy or Argentina, countries whose culture i have more affinity with, rather than the alcoholic nation of thugs that is great britain, and the totalitarian database society its becoming...

I open these people to new ideas.
I don't strive to be weird.. I just am. I can't really help it; I've always been different. I used to try and be one of them... all I wanted in life was to fit in.
Then I realised these people accomplish nothing particularly notable (having children is a feat.. but I mean nothing to better humanity) with their lives.
I don't hate 'normal' people; I still interact with them. In general; no matter how stupid and narcissistic a person is, at the core they are still a decent person.
Now; I often disagree with these people, and I voice my opinions on these matters. What you must respect though; is that right and wrong are completely subjective to the context they are used in.
People are narcissistic because they choose to be. Us people that deviate from the what is considered 'normal' by the masses are labeled as weird; but thats only because people fear what they don't understand.
So don't take it to heart; Each person has their own utopia and goals.. whether its simply to survive and have a family; or whether its to go to uni and get a phd (*cough*  ).
If these 'dumb' people really bother you; go to uni, or somewhere where you are likely to meet like minded individuals.

I am actually producing a National Geographic show right now, and I think it's a pretty intelligent and thought provoking show to be honest. But thanks for your deeply researched input to my job and it's integrity. You are obviously a Rhodes Scholar.
If you would have actually read my post, you would see that I wasn't saying TV is being used to it's potential in guiding and controlling a population. I feel it is still very much an untapped resource, and being used for many the wrong purpose in my opinion. That's only because most people only want to hear gossip or only watch things that will make them feel better about their own miniscule lives. They use TV as a mindless escape rather than to learn or open themselves up to new worlds.
It's the people who dictate what's on. If you don't like something, don't watch it, and it will eventually get cancelled if enough people think the same. To say there is no integrity in the business is just a false statement. There are plenty of respectable things to watch, just unfortunately, the majority of the population doesn't want to watch them. I guess it's kind of what the OP is talking about. The masses seem to control this world, and the masses seem less and less intelligent by the day.

Exactly. But they don't all consciously chose to be stupid. People don't unanimously say "Oh, I think I'll be an idiot for the rest of my life!". And the world would be a better place if people were actually conscious of their surroundings.
