Spiritual use of psychedelics or not? (Poll)

I have the feeling that most of you are using psychedelics for spiritual reasons, but I know some who don't beleive in the eternal spirit and perhaps only use for a high or something.

Really, I use them for both. Although many trips lead to some sort of spiritual "renewal", a good amount of my trips are just for fun and experience.

If I want spiritual ill either go with DMT, aya, or shrooms + maoi...although spiritual can come with lsd and mescal in the same ways sometimes, those are my preference when it comes to delving into spirtuality.

I always do drugs just for fun but I do sometimes gain insights into myself anyways, and I treat the drugs with enough respect to not be stupid with using them. I think people need to get off their high horse when it comes to using psychadelics for spiritual purposes.

for me it is all about paradox.
what I think is spiritual may seem unspiritual to another person.
my interest is non-frivolous but pleasure oriented,
I am rejoicing in existence and humanity.

no religious maps work for me.

I mostly eat acid to laugh and have a good time with my friends. I never set out for anything "spiritual". You have to let that come to you, ime. I've learned a thing or two about life from my many LSD experiences but mostly a lot of LOLers.

i started to take drugs to have fun and still do. taking salvia and mushrooms, even marijuana, is fun as fuck but thatr doesn´t mean you can´t learn something from the experience. i am not a spiritual/religous person at all but some experiences leave me with some kind of personal gain. others are just full on laughing fits and watching funny colors swirl around and those experiences are just as important to me.

I grew out of the laughing stage by the time I was 16.
It gets old
I dont find lsd, shrooms or mesc very spiritual, maybe euphoric and insightfull "noticing things I normally wouldn't notice ect".
Now Aya and Salvia to me are spiritual "getting a glimpse of other dimensions and entities"

it depends on the enviroment, if I'm with friends or not, what I want out of the trip.. too much to list.

Spiritual experiences are hard to intentionally bring about without making them hollow and superficial. I don't trip solely for fun, since I always have serious insights about myself and the universe, but I'll rarely think "I'm going to speak to Jesus today" before tripping. Just by going with the experiences, I have spiritual insights, basically.

To me, the whole concept of "spirituality" is such an open ended idea, it sounds like a word people use to sell new-age books.

I trip for insight. I think it is the separation of the "real" world, and the "spiritual" world that causes so much confusion.

Psychedelics show me here and now. The only absolute truth to existance is direct experience. For that they are an invaluable tool.

when it comes to shrooms tho, it just happens so that you get those kinds of experiences more often, but its all the same really.

anyway, its no ones business to decide whether or not there is a good reason behind eating these things. whether you consume for shits and giggles or to have a conversation with the space and time commitee, i assure you it is of no consequence. One is just better off eating psychedelics than not.

Those religeous experiences that are so much more hardcore than everyone elses are just that, EXPERIENCES

i started for the reason of medicine then it turned to fun and medicine but quickly changed to spirtual

How am I on a high horse by making that statement? If people want to use psychadelics for spiritual purposes, I and most people I've seen on this forum who are not using them for spirituality don't go around preaching about it. I just don't like how there is a tendency for people using them for spiritual purposes to look down upon people who don't use them for that reason. I'm not saying everyone is like that but it's the general feeling I get most of the time.

I say to each their own, I don't mind what you're doing if you don't mind what I'm doing.

I've used them for both, at different phases. Now I'm mainly into it for spiritual purposes. Although a good walk outside while daytrippin is fun + spiritual at the same time.

Define spiritual.

Psilocybin is a chemical that changes the way your brain processes information. It does not connect you to an already non-existent supernatural being or reality.

However, I do not take mushrooms or LSD for shits and giggles. I have profound, life-changing experiences on these substances, and they offer myriad insights and ideas. Like redgreenvines said, I rejoice in humanity and existence, and the potential available to do great things with this life we have.

Secular spirituality, if you will.

MDMA is my "fun" drug, which I reserve for very special occasions 1-2 times a year.

Weed is my general purpose relaxant, social inebriant, and celebratory drug.

If having fun affects your spirit, then doesn't that mean that any sort of fun is, to an extent, spiritual?

The important thing here (I believe) is that the psychedelic experience is going to be thought provoking to at least SOME degree no matter what. Even if you take psychedelics purely for recreational purposes with no thought whatsoever to whatever you consider "spirituality", the nature of the drug dictates that it is going to affect you as a person to some extent.

I believe that EVERY experience affects who we are, and because we are spiritual beings, affects us spiritually.

However, not everyone shares this opinion. Many people seem to already have hit the nail on the head. Redgreenvines and SDP I agree with particularly.

Interpretation often directly relates to intention, but in the end the psychedelic experience simply is what it is.
