Brain stopped working to save my life. What do you call this, luck?

This happened a few years ago.
I was driving home from work in a hurry. I remember passing people and getting pissed off at the slow drivers in front of me. I needed to get home to catch the second half of football game I had money riding on. I was content on getting home as fast as possible.
I came to a stop light at a major highway crossing. To this day, I remember staring at that light going "come on come on turn green already" and when it did there was this void of thought and I did nothing. I just sat there staring at the green light. Nothing in my head telling me to go. I was stuck in an stupor. Three seconds later, a truck, going full highway speed blows through the stop light.
The way that intersection is set up I would have been in the middle of it at that three second mark.
intuition?
I thought it weird like because there was nothing in me that said don't go. I just sat there in a stupor. To this day I can't explain the blankness my brain felt at that stop light.

that's awesome
two hurrieds cross paths, but in order for both hurrieds to get where they were going, one had to be halted and have his patterns deleted?
a lesson was learned right?

I recall an article that was brought up in discussion once that tested individuals who would make choices as to which button they would press. The moment they decided to press the button, they would say so out loud and would press the button, or would say what time it was when they thought to do it, or whatever. Anyways, it basically demonstrated that the signal to take a certain action occurs in the brain before the conscious thought process thinks it has made the decision.
So perhaps your perceptions registered the impending danger and the conscious thought processes were put on hold so that the body could ensure it didn't get fucked up.

Neat you remembered that and told him about it here. People forget or just don't know that we do have subtle awareness that can pick up on these things. Most just are not paying attention to it at all. It falls under intuition.
The interesting thing about steins case is that he wanted to go go go and felt almost paralyzed by a stupor he says. It sounds like there wasn't a "hunch" to hold back and that he did based on that. He says, he just found himself not going, as if almost against his will and it saved his life.
Makes you wonder about a lot of things and I would have questions to if I were Stein.
It's stories like that that make you wonder if we do have such things as guardian angels. Yet, you look at all of the bad that happens to people, ask where were they then, and the idea is easy to rule out unless.... there is just so much more we don't know about rules for when they can intervene and when they can't and why.
For people who have experienced such things like Stein did, it gets them wondering, "Why spare me?" "Is there something I am destined to do with my life?" "If there is a reason I needed to be here still, and if so, what is it?" That would drive me crazy suddenly feeling like there were expectations for me of my life and I would feel under pressure to figure it out and nail it.
I am going to suggest that you don't get caught up into the cycle Stein.
It was most likely the result of a built in survival mechanism related to ESP and in your case, its hooked up to a really strong over ride system anchored to the will of survival.
In other words, I would look at it as something that was just serving survival in general, versus something keeping you around to fulfill a purpose for being here. Even if there is such things, you can drive yourself crazy wondering what it is and if you never figure it out, end up feeling like a failure.
Perhaps it was nothing more then a deeply self created experience to awaken you on the conscious level to re-evaluate the value of your life to you in general by giving yourself a second chance. Maybe you were aligned to bite it and something deep within you that is aware of it all was saying "Wait NO! There is more I want out of this place then I originally thought."
Again, that is tied in with a will to survive physicality and be here.
Life's easier to enjoy and navigate when you see life as having the purpose of allowing the individual to decide what purpose their existence will have and mean to them. IT doesn't decide that for us, just gives us a body imbued with conscious life so we can do that part freely for ourselves. Takes the pressure off of existence. Thats when the most interesting things happen and discoveries are made. In that relaxed place is really the only place we will experience the joy of simply and purely just "being".
Like I bet after you saw that truck blow through and realized, you were about to become ground beef, your first thought was , "FUCK!. I am still alive!" and being "just alive" never felt so good.
I like these stories because they make you wonder about a lot of cool possibilities. Thanks for sharing it Stein.

You're right, I think. Searching for purpose is like searching for anything you can't really find but think it just might be there.

whether or not it was supposed to happen, it did, and that is what is important.
Personally, I don't believe in reason, but synchronicity, and the two of you just happened to be flowing in the right patchwork of it all.

Perhaps, on a subconscience level, you stopped for a split second to realize just how important that football game meant to you. Maybe you realized, without realizing, that it didn't matter if you got home right away because eventually you would figure out the results of the game anyway. You were getting all pissed off at other drivers, yelling at the stop light, and for what? A stupid football game? Maybe it was just your brain telling you to slow down a bit and coincidentally it just happened to be at that very split second.

your hurry almost got you hurt
a truck's hurry almost got you hurt
maybe it is a message about the hurried lifestyle?
but speaking of synchronicity
"passing through unconscious states, when i awoke i was on the highway"
and anyway this needs to be read into, but hurried people aren't aware of other hurried people, hurried people run into each other.

We're the watchers in this area of the solar system, doesn't seem to me there is anyone else. Why would a supernatural force give a rats ass about Stein getting smashed by a truck? Things like this don't prove that there is any sentience watching us. Thinking that something with intentions caused Stein to blank out is mere speculation.
Maybe there is omnipotent consciousness, but this isn't proof!

what if the truck running the red light had a large amount of consciousness and bad energy seeping out into the immediate environment (like how if you are stressed out every single dog in the neighborhood barks at you while walking by [watch the dog whisperer everything he does is about energy and the projection of mental states for other beings to pick up on]) and so this scrambled the guys brain.....
the dude may have been thinking "man man man man no one go through the green light no one go through the green night" all tweaked up to maximum emotional vigilance.
consciousness impacts all other consciousness to some degree or another.

Love it!
That's pretty close to how I would explain what happened to Stein on the subtle levels.
I'm sure all of us at one time or another have been in an environment that was so dense, threatening and chaotic, it just scrambled and paralyzed the brain the brain for a spell, like a systems crash of sorts-too much info to process all at once and it shuts down.
Sometimes in those cases, loosing clear cognition and the ability to take action (to leave) is costly. In this one, at least becoming immobilized for a spell saved Steins life.
Sometimes, when the spidey senses pick up a "This situation is going down hill fast" vibe, a brain scrambling that leads to lack of clear cognition but more importantly lack of action can be a life saver when you just keep still and let it pass by you, like when an argument suddenly explodes into violence amongst people around you.
Sometimes, you don't have to fight or take flight and its just enough to let the negative vibe move through those in negative states and on its way. It probably helped that Stein had his mind extremely preoccupied with getting home fast. Without that, the warning vibe to stay put or retreat in the opposite direction, wouldn't have been in enough conflict with his will to go go go, to create a brain scrambling.
Sometimes, jumping into the chaos out of a reactive state thinking you are going to save it only causes you to get creamed in the mix, where as, if you would've just sat back and let the negative/destructive energy work itself through and out and on its way, you'd keep safe and unharmed. Sometimes, some people and environments are fixed on self destruction and its best to stay out of their path and wake- Or learn the ways of Akido and redirect the energy back into resonance with harmony.
Speaking of an Akido Master........
I love Caesar! He RULES . His ability to deal with dogs so gnarly and nasty people are ready to put them down, and bring the dog into friendly submission so quick and easy is amazing. He understands subtle energies VERY well and pretty much uses that as his base teaching with his clients. Its all about energy to him. I wish all parents, teachers, cops and employers understood what he does.
Strings of negative energy flying through places are weird to watch. I remember once when tending bar, the other guy and I were hanging back, it was slow, we turned our attention to watching some fuss with a customer up at the Hostess desk, then straight on to a waitress, slamming down a tray at the bar snapping about what an ass some other customer just was and then, just passed her, a coffee mug went flying off of a shelf and smashed on the floor. and out the back door it went. It all happened within 20 seconds and then all calmed down just as quickly.
Just then, another waitress came up from the middle of it all looking confused, and asked, "what in the hell just ran through here? I caught a cold chill" We were like
Life gets cool when you start feeling your way through the subtle energies instead of thinking your way through it, like a spider on the web of consciousness, you can gather a lot of information about whats going on beyond yourself.
I agree, I think the trucks drivers energy was so intense and narly, it scrambled Stiens brains as it came to him and passed by. I think that was the only force behind it all, like I do with everything else-energy itself.
I think giving form to it in the form of angels, demons or gods/God is just our minds way of giving that energy a face.

in response to jiggy:
In Tai Chi we are taught complete non-resistance. You lose if you resist. You lose if you put forth effort. Only if you harmonize completely do you win.
You win because you are your opponent and they don't know it.
I assume this is based also on how tangible energy (chi) is sensed, however to use chi to fight, rather than to use the mind or the body or traditional ways requirse much mastery of the art.
But the basic idea is that when you practice the tai chi form you are wedging your consciousness deeper and deeper into the gaps between movement so that it becomes an intuitive kinesthetic process wherein you are no longer moving your body, but moving the chi. Or something of the extent. Its a parable.

The only difference with Akido is that instead of not putting up resistance and getting your face punched in, you redirect that energy into the ground or thin air so no one gets hurt, while bringing the attacking force into resonant submission with harmony again, with the power of your own energy. The last part takes a lot of energy. It is said that to be brought into submission by an Akido master is actually a very pleasant experience.
No harm to anyone and a return to harmony for all is the goal of Akido.

I studied aikido as a young boy. For demonstration purposes some of the sensei's suggested I attack full strength. Needless to say I stopped attacking eventually. The submissions in aikido can be very painful, but they are effective at subduing a violent person who wishes to hurt you. They always taught us not to snap or break anything, but I imagine its hard not to snap anything with some of the techniques. Of course it matters how much force your opponent is using, the more force they use, the greater their chance of harm.
It's beautiful to watch someone skilled in aikido in group combat. They just seem to dance as they bring everyone to the ground with minimum exertion.
And to stay on topic! Martial arts did bring some intuitive reactions into my life, not on as deep a level as Stein seemed to experience intuition, but useful nonetheless.

The further I got into looking for books or schools in my area, the further I saw the school of it that had no issue with bringing pain to the one being put in submission. At least, with those schools, the master is redirecting the attackers own force back unto themselves. Energetically speaking, if the attacker is experiencing pain or gets a bone snapped, its the result of their own force being turned around on them. Still a cool system of techniques to learn and perhaps it serves them right.
I am most awed by the masters who can redirect the attacking energy into the ground or air and make the process of submission into harmony a pleasant one. Seems that school is less popular as so many are drawn to the martial arts because they want to learn how to better inflict pain and break bones back on anyone attacking them.
If thats what anyone is after Hap Ki Do is the way to go. OUCH! We use to have Hap Ki Do masters come into the last Dojang I went to and teach us some of that stuff. I'm into Tae Kwon Do right now.
martial arts coming into this thread is relative to that whatever happened to cause stiens stupor and temporary loss of motor functioning to hit the pedal, obviously has to do with some subtle energy dynamics and the Martial arts works on the those principles so its easy to relate it too for those who understand them.
