What Happened to LSD

In the 60's mainly many people took LSD. Now it appears that it is very popular with the people in this forum. But I didn't hear much about it in the late 80's through the 90's. Did it lose popularity? Was it too difficult to obtain? Did the people who took it in the 60's quit taking it? Is there anyone here who has been tripping on LSD since the 60's and has continued to the present?

It just lost popularity I guess. I think the political climate during the drugs height in the 60s had a lot to do with it. LSD represented freedom, independance and love which I guess was what was needed at that time. 60s musical style was also connected with the drug. Since then we've had the rising popularity of things such as rave which fitted drugs like Ecstacy and Cocaine much better. I guess the hippies of the 60s and 70s believed that they could permanently change the world with their ideals which they couldn't, so the whole LSD thing went with it.

who says its readily available today ? because we post reports about LSD doesnt mean its around in great abundance , on shroomery periodically you will find an LSD report, or someone talking about there previous experience.. but not many ( although a couple are ) talking about how much acid they have at there house or there dealers crib RIGHT NOW . it has been sparse for years, and continues to be that way ... from my knowledge on the subject; the entire process of making LSD is rather dangerous and would likly deter any DIY'ers ( ie Ergot- deadly, LSA - shit quality )
**its never lost its popularity , if you try it you will understand how something that prolific cannot simply just die off in the psyche of underground society....

It lost popularity and then 'easier' drugs sort of took its place. Most people would rather get all loved up on MDMA or zonked out on Benzo's then take psychedelics it seems.

I seem to remember some figures that show that hallucinogens (not just LSD) use has been very steady throughout the last decades, but the mass media has given different levels of attention/exposure to the consumption, so that gives the impression that use has been very irregular.
BTW, there is at least a study which sais people seem to stop their use of psychedelics after a given time on their own, and I agree with this notion.

I also wonder if due to recent DEA activity (major lsd lab busts) the use and production has moved still further underground than it was.

well in 2000 they busted the two main chemists, each who were putting out up to almost 2lbs of crystal a week. so when they were gone the DEA said the amount of LSD dropped by 95% (probably exaggerated, all police figures are, well more over all figures are ha)

I'd argue that all the same people have been taking the same amount of acid over all these years. If you're into the scene it isn't very hard to find.

in the 80's and 90's there was tons of LSD. it was in everyones home town, let alone flooded at shows. this is when the grateful dead network was raging. They had a coast to coast distribution network and were blowing it up. there has always been and will always be LSD. it fluctuates in and out of the main stream but it has never gone away. it has gotten less available at times but it never has gone away. and it is defiantly flowing pretty good right now

After about a year of looking hard, I finally found someone with acid. But he moved before I even got any, to canada.

I'm not sure if same amount of acid is being consumed anymore.
Acid was generally a lot more potent and consistent 15 years ago. A hit of acid wasn't questioned whether it was real or not, weak or strong. It was just 1 hit. There were a lot more hand outs, too. I mean there has to be less now than before. Dealers having multiple books were a norm. No one even uses that term anymore. Finding acid from FOAF was never hard. And with more availability and consistency, I'm pretty sure we ate a lot more.
I think things kinda slided over the years with acid and now there's more people eating less acid than in the 80s/90s. Most people spend more time looking/waiting than planning/tripping, IMO.
oh.. answering OP, I wasn't alive in the 60s, but my experiences with acid/mush go back to mid 80s. I don't eat anywhere near as much acid as when I first started. There was long period of binging early on followed by time to get life in order. During which, there's almost no acid use. When I was involved in my career, I didn't think about acid. There were times when it showed up and I said what the hell, but no plans for it. After few years, plans/trips occurred more regularly until other drugs came into my life. Once a month now for anything at most. But with E and availability of mushies, not a whole lot of acid gets eaten. In nearly 2 decades, I ate at least 10 times as much acid first 3 years than what I ate since then. With handouts, at least 20 times as much acid came through my hands in first 3 years as the rest of the years.
I think the popularity is still there. The availability isn't. For me, the hardest time was during the early 90s when I didn't have hookups. A lot of the hookups I knew from the 90s stopped and passed the puck to the new generation. Most of them, though, give referrals before they disappear, so the availability to me never really dried up at any time.

The late 80's, early 90's were Ragin'!! Clean, 2 hit stuff at 3/$10 or $80-$100/sheet. It was either nothin', or good stuff. Period. Nowadays, it could be any number of undesirables( RC's). I'd pay big for Proven Lucy. But with all the risk, it better be Proven. Peace and Keep it Flowin'

I think it pretty much lost popularity. In the 60's and 70's, it was just getting to be a commonly used drug that represented spirituality and peace. Now adays, people think it is the scum of society, and RC's are partly to blame... I think LSD is a worth-while experience (depending on what you're using it for). Too bad for its popularity...
-------------------- I believe with the advent of acid we discovered new way to think and it had to
do with piecing together new thoughts of mind. Why is it that people think it's
so evil? What is it about it that there is scares people so deeply? Because
they are afraid that there is more to reality than they have ever confronted.
That there are doors that they're afraid to go in and they don't want us to go
in there either because if we go in, there we might learn something that they
don't know. And that makes us a little out of their control.

Um, I'm sure there are many people who look down upon LSD but I think the "scum of society" title is held by other substances.
