The 2000-3000 AD era will probably define humanity, and I'm pretty sure that it will be a golden age. If you will live through the next 1.000 years you probably get a shot at living for an unlimited timespan.
To be able to live for 10.000 years in good health would be something beyond comprehension, but I seriously think life is addictive enough to stick with it for at least a thousand years or so.

Anybody ever read Ann Rice's Vampire Chronicles? I think you'd get so bored after only 300 years that you'd end up killing yourself. I'm sick of life now, so I'd opt out of 979 more years of this bullshit.

Even if you were to live for 1000 years, I imagine cancer would be near inevitable before then. If nothing else, skin cancer from so much exposure.

Actually cancer is a form of genetic damage, therefore if he really is finding a way to prevent or fix genetic damage, if he can do that, he might be able to lengthen life.
I thought he was a nut case for sure, but he's at Cambridge, and won an award for significantly lengthening the life of mice.

THE only way this would work out is if
a) bird flu became a human to human virus and killed off a significant part of the population
b) AIDS continued to spread like wild fire killing off a significant part of the population
c) 2012 happened killing off a significant part of the population
d) then when there are several hundred million people left on earth, the 1000 year party begins
i say this not because i wouldnt want EVERYONE to live to 1000, but because there would simply not be enough resources to.
and by resources, i mean LSD
