Extraordinary or Ordinary?
    #5125276 - 12/31/05 07:41 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

There is a quote from the book "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman that goes something like this:

'Would you rather be extraordinary on the ordinary realm or ordinary on the extraordinary realm?"

Ponder this a while BEFORE you respond.

I'd like to join the ranks of the ornery extraordinaries; Wouldn't you?

Whats the difference between ordinary and extra-ordinary?

I think I'd rather post quickly than think deeply about it...

If you are ordinary in the extraordinary, then you are not extraordinary, you are just ordinary. What is ordinary only depends on context.

Hmm...

Lots of "reading into it" issues... but I think I'll go with the first option.

I'll go with the second. Just to dip a toe into the mysteries is better than being the first sheep out of the pen.

I'll go with the second. Just to dip a toe into the mysteries is better than being the first sheep out of the pen.

Icey got the spirit of the quote the best methinks.

Let's take as an example, a VERY wealthy businessman who basically mastered the economic domain, but his marriage fails due to his selfishness or a sports superstar who has mastered the boards, but not his addictions.

These folks are extraordinary beings in the ordinary realm.

Then there are folks such as Gandhi or Mother Theresa that are quite ordinary, but because they are operating on a much higher plain, can have tremendous positive affect.

They are more interested in their own personal growth and integrity than the accolades of the masses; more interested in accumulating real knowledge than material goods.

The proof is in the pudding.

Thanks Swami, I know for sure that I have severe limitations in this lifetime, so far at least. I know I am quite ordinary as a truth seeker and practioner. Yet I know for sure that I have been blessed to look into the void and see bliss and mystery and love on occasion. I cannot imagine a life without this blessing and I remain as humble as possible so as to continue on this path with heart.

I never know for sure what you're saying. Are you saying that you are an ordinary spirit seeker, and saying it in your completely unordinary way?
