Albums that changed the face of music
    #5012102 - 12/04/05 12:23 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

One that I think is an obvious candidate:
Nirvana - 'Nevermind'

What would be some of your choices?

Id argue one that deffinately wouldnt be on the list is Nevermind.
One that would, Id say Were Only in it for the Money by Zappa.

this is one of my favorite albums of all time, it still blows my mind after all these years. Pet Sounds is also exuisite.

Daydream Naion by sonic youth might be a good candidate too.

I did, but a bunch of people didnt, because they were comparing it to smiley smile. I think Smile (the entire concept) has the greatest openning ever.

But as far as "changing the face of music", it is hands down Pet Sounds. It is the sole inspiration for Sgt. Peppers and a multitude of pre-rock bands.

Actually according to the Beatles the Zappa album Freak Out was a definite part of the inspiration for Sgt. Peppers.

And I like Smiley Smile, I think its a realy good and bizzare album.

Why do you say that? Is it just because you don't like the album? Whether you like it or not I don't see how you could deny the profound affect that Nevermind had on the modern rock scene in the early 90's.

I'm also trying to think which album it was that pushed rap-music into the mainstream of American pop culture. About the earliest rap album I can think of that was popular was Run DMC's self titled album in '84. There are earlier examples but this was the first one I remember being big. Am I missing one?

Blonde on Blonde is pretty good, but Id say Highway 61 Revisited deserves the spot a bit more.

Ha you assume I dont like Nevermind because I wont put it on the list of albums that changed the face of music. It didnt change the face of music, it sounds very similar to what a lot of other bands were doing around that time, and before them.

I think Cabaret Voltaire might deserve a nod on the list.
