I'm somehow banned from the S&M forum, without any warning or explanation as to why I was banned. As far as I could tell, I was acting well within the rules. If I could just get the explanation, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

It's not a secret some members are trying to sabotage S&M by exploiting the rules while they are not finally set. Some other members are falling for it and getting into the game.
To all this people, you're free to do it but the moderation is also free to lock, move and delete any thread, and to warn or ban any member not respecting the rules in this moment of change.

.. and there it is. I would reiterate that anyone participating in the SM&P forum over the next couple weeks TREAD LIGHTLY until all of the forum guidelines are made clear and understood. One of the principle reasons for splitting S&P was because of unwanted confrontation, jives, jokes, mocking behavior, etc... so while I can understand why some of you may want to poke some (easy) fun at the new forum, it will not be taken kindly as we are really trying to find some sort of balance and provocation will not help any of us.

And I would suggest WARNING people who cross vague lines... before banning them.
We're ALL learning to get along in the NEW forums, and the rules are still being looked at... "Tread lightly" is good advice for the Public AND the Staff.

And that's all I ask. With a warning, I have the chance to explain myself before being unjustly outed from the forum by people suspicious of my motives. Just like a warning I got recently from Learyfan in the Pub over some put-downs me and RandalFlagg exchanged. He gave me a warning, so I had a fair chance to explain to him that we were just ribbing on each other and that it was all meant in a playful manner. Learyfan acknowledged my explanation, so the warning is retracted. If he had behaved like the mod did in this situation, I would currently be banned from the Pub over some nonsense, just like the nonsense I'm being banned for here.

Yes, I've tried to handle this in a more mature fashion than how I was dealt with, but that still leaves me with being unjustly banned from a forum I wish to participate in. I've already made my case as far as I can tell, yet I'm still banned. It would at least be helpful to know the duration of my ban. For all I know, I could be permabanned from that forum until some mod or admin comes to their senses and lets me back in. And it's not like I want to go there just to stir up trouble, though I'm sure that's what certain moderators would like to believe. I'm actually genuinely interested in posting on spiritual topics which I feel would be better suited for that forum than for the Philosophy forum. But because I'm from the "skeptic" camp(even though I believe in things like chi or the Tao or karma), my motives are always second-guessed by those who so proudly think of themselves as "seekers," and view people like me as barbarians at the gates. At the very least, I'd like to be let back in that forum with the warning I should have gotten instead of the ban.

did you ever find out whyyyy you were banned?
I was told it was personal and a residue from last year's ban. The technical term is a 'shit list'. BTW I am still banned for merely posting a mythological subject - and I am the first ever to do such a thing on that forum, everyt other topic is totally fact-based.
My first ban was admitted to be a 'lifetime achievement award' as the mods stated I broke no technical rule, but the spirit of S&P.

What I'd like to know, is why Swami isn't allowed in the Philosophy forum. Instead, he's permitted in the S&M forum... How ironic, and quite frankly, ridiculous.

I've started acclimating to the Shroomery Police State in much the same way that when a cop in the real world stops me, wants to search me, give me orders, whatever, I immediately comply regardless of whether or not what they are doing is right (or even legal).
If that poor 64 year old guy in LA. hadn't made the mistake of telling a cop he was rude for interrupting his conversation, he wouldn't have been beaten nearly to death.
I'm smarter than that guy. I know that obeying arbitrary orders and self-censoring to avoid saying anything that might possibly be taken as inappropriate is the only way to avoid a ban; it is the only True path for a Shroomerite.

Face it: Arguing legitimate points never solved anything in the world. Real protest needs to involve some sort of martyrdom(and I don't think the bannings seem to be working). Maybe you should take a cue from this guy:

*Plageurism Alert!*
Paradigm got this title from the 1980 alien movie stinker called "It Came Without Warning". This alone is worthy of a ban.
Review: Sure it's terrible, but if you can't enjoy a film this bad, there's something wrong with you. This predecessor of the highly-successful "Predator" features a similar plot involving a single alien coming to Earth to hunt humans for sport. Instead of a military platoon though, this E.T. happens to be up against a few inebriated backwoods characters, including Martin Landau and Jack Palance. It's got the works: poorly lit sets, drunken actors, slime covered bodies, and a briefly-glimpsed weird alien. It spends most of the movie offscreen, apparently throwing living frisbees with tentacles at hapless humans, then harvesting them and storing their bodies in a convenient old shack. A perfect time-killer! My only regret is that I never got to see this one at the drive-in, which is obviously where it was meant to be enjoyed. It meets that lofty goal very nicely.
The fact that Martin Landau and Jack Palance both appear in this film, light-years away from their Oscars, is even weirder that the appearance of the alien (which really does look just like those famous aliens from "The Outer Limits" with the big lampshade heads). It also features an early performance by David Caruso as alien chow. This one is pretty hard to track down, but it's not to be missed. Pop some popcorn and watch it with the lights out...you might actually see something that way!

Well, as you well know, this can't be answered from the posted rules, but I gather that skeptics are permitted so long as they reform and tow the line.
I've been told that any non-proactive favorable speech about mysticism is explicitly prohibited. Any skeptic posting non  will certainly get at least a warning, though depending on the mod's personal opinion of you, it may arbitrarily be a ban.
My recommendation is that you just stay away.

Sorry if i don't understand the difference between "got you banned" and "did ban you". I'm always learning, no cynicism here, please elucidate.

The implications of the recent bans and its celerity are due to the sabotage attempt at SM&P. This event is severe by the staff standards, probably non popular actions were taken but the things is we didn't start the whole thing, but we're doing our job and trying to fix it.

I am personally aware of the PM campaign by a group of users who are intentionally pushing the 'lines/rules' of the new forums in order to prove a point. You guys should be weary of who you 'trust'

Puhleeze guys, come on! Things are going to be a little shakey when we implement such a large change to one of our prominent forums. Just don't exascerbate the situation, be it constantly hounding the moderators or making a post that you take to be satire, in a new forum where people are trying to get a feel for the atmosphere and may take offense to it. In other words, lay low and in time most if not all of these matters will have been resolved. Particularly the notification problems with forum-specific bans, as we are revamping our banning system and individual user "rap sheet" to include a plethora of related information that will ensure such decisions are made without the same potential for speculation and human error that exists today. Not to mention, most processes will be automated, which will ensure you always get a message by the person taking the action, explaining the action, whenever such action is taken against you. For now, we are more prone to error and confusion - it's no secret, just live with it and stop freakin' out. If you DID get banned somewhere and DID NOT receive an explaination, you ought to contact an administrator, who will then solicit the related moderators for more information, and eventually get back to you with reasons and future guideance.
