Man, I love all the albums you guys have posted, but nobody seems to be taking in that Jazz has evolved so far from the typical Jazz form that rarely people even consider it Jazz.
Jazz, to me, is about improvisation and being completely engulfed in the music.
Some artists that fit this category that I consider Jazz, and most others don't would be: Flying Lotus Ras G Mount Kimbie
Check "Cosmogramma" by Flying Lotus out immediately. Came out last Tuesday and is going to revolutionize music

Can anyone point me towards work similar to Herbie Hancock's "Head Hunters"? I'm getting into Jazz, but like this style much more than any Miles Davis I have heard.

I've been having a super slow process of getting into the various styles of Jazz for the past 2 years. I've come a long way and have heard things that are simply amazing. A lot was from NPR and are things I'll never hear again. A few of my favorite jazz albums/artists are
Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy, Casino Bobby Hutcherson, check out little B's Poem John McLaughlin, also his Indian group Shakti! Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain, In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew John Coltrane - Sun Ship, A Love Supreme, Dakar
There are so many others I want to get into. And all of you getting into jazz I recommend Miles Davis the most, he was constantly changing styles and making new divisions in the genre, he has so much excellent material. Coltrane was my initial jazz love however.

Also, if you guys are feeling adventurous check out Atheist, Cynic, and Exivious. These are all jazz-death bands. Cynic is awesome very atmospheric, something definitely worth tripping to. I don't remember their new album being too great, but their first one is amazing. It's called Focus. Exivious I just found out about and haven't checked out too much. They're the only instrumental band of the three.

Cynic is indeed awesome. I think Athiest could be great, but they have one of the worst vocalist I've ever heard.
War From a Harlot's Mouth and Yakuza are also Jazz/Metal bands that own pretty hard.
