What the hell are you trying to say?  I ain?t using no processed squares of American cheese yo.  That cheese came off a nice big block of sharp Tillamook cheddar from the Tillamook County Creamery up in Oregon.  I?d say I probably prefer the Real California Longhorn style Sharp Cheddar by Lucrene a bit better, but beggars can?t be choosers :smirk:

I don?t know about your so called "real" non-orange toned Sharp Cheddar, but I know mine is real enough to taste damn good

Studies done back in the day determined that cheese sells better if it is orange, thus, they started adding annatto(sp?)

Whoooa, steady on Geo !

I wasn't trying to imply that you were using processed cheese slices just that the cheddar you used had food colouring in it.

I like yourself have a passion for good food but I like it to be as natural as possible and free of preservatives, colourants etc as I'm sure you do as well.

I haven't had a steak baguette for ages and fancy one later tonight but I'm going to substitute the sharp cheddar with some strong roquefort and add fried portobello mushrooms, red onions, garlic and a splash of red wine

What are Pepperoncinis out of interest ??? I haven't heard of those over here in the UK

> What are Pepperoncinis out of interest ???

Pepperoncinis are a very mild pepper.  Not as mild as Bell, as they do still provide some nice spice, but they are not spice-y, per se

I will post a picture of some in the coming days, along with revised pics of the meatwich when I find some available time to resize and tag my photos.

yes coloring of cheddar cheese if fake.

white cheddar is now used to distinguish 'better' imho.

Being to England and going to a cheese shop makes you no expert, here's the proof.
OK read this: 'Why cheese is orange'
http://www.accidentalhedonist.com/index.php/2005/05/16/why_is_cheddar_cheese_orange

In case one link is not enough:

http://www.fredmeyer.com/hn/Food_Guide/Cheddar.htm

Quoted from second link:
"Yellow and orange cheeses are created through the addition of carrot juice or marigold; some use annatto, a flavorless natural coloring."

I'm open ears if you can prove otherwise as to cheddar coloring.
