Yeah, attack my personal decision because you know you have nothing to say against that kind of logic. Its purely situational, I can see a lot of reasons to take the 1 million, of course, for someone like you, you probably grew up with some money and got sent to college, etc. So you couldn't POSSIBLY fathom why someone would opt for a LARGE amount of money still.
Of course I took the 100 million, I already make decent money and I've got a decent education going, I won't be hurting if I don't win at all, but I'd be set for life if I do.
Like said by others, you're being illogical blinded by your own wallet, not everyone has money in theirs.

Zappa, God Forbid but suppose you get a horrid disease.. You can take pills and live more or less OK, or have a surgery which will make you feel tiptop, except theres a 50% chance that you DIE. Would you still chance it?
50% chance of catastrophic failure is humongous.

Let's make this more applicable, shall we? Do I take the pills that guarantee to barely keep me alive in a shitty condition or do I take the 50% chance of a complete cure? Do I submit to a lifetime of hideous dialysis or do I go for the risky transplant? Don't forget that we are talking about a 100 to 1 ratio here. 100 to 1. Not 2 to 1. Not 5 to 1. No Zappa, I outlined the parameters for you. You'd get by pretty much OK on the pills, after all getting a million is pretty much OK and notr comparable to a miserable existance.
I'll take the 1 million TYVM. I figure I have up to 30 years to live, so I'll take 100 grand in startup cost, convert the rest to precious metals for value preservation and base my lifestyle on an equivalent allowance of $800 a month without touching my capital and assets. Then I put a family member as a renter in my home and I'm off to, oh lets say, Nairobi.
You can live pretty damn decent in a place like that on $800/month, thats 10x a good family income there. The weather is epic, you have a fine mansion and enough money for leisure and to cleverly invest in local peoples profitable projects as microcredit, helping people better themselves while adding to your wealth. If I get bored I wrap up back to my firstworld home where my former life awaits me.
Yup, that would be sweet.

That kind of analysis is only relevant if you get to play a large amount of times. In this case you do not so the expected long term return is not something you should consider.

Who WOULDN'T risk one dollar to get 100? You'd be a moron to take the dollar.
However, risking 1 million versus 100 million, its far more complex.
1 million dollars can clear you debt, guarantee a decent living situation for the time being, pay for education, start a business, investments in general, and so forth. It could basically take anyone in the world and set them up for success IF they choose to use it wisely.
Risking the 100 million would mean you either make it or break it.
I don't see how you don't see this kind of logic, but I guess as you get old you brain gets old and derpy too.

The only way Zappa's logic works is if you are already rich which he is. If you dont have
anything to lose on the 50/50 chance of 100 million then of course you take that chance becuase
you still have 100 million left in the bank and or in assets.

The way I see it, I could turn that sure thing into a good deal for me. Even after taxes, that one million could set a lot of things in motion, not to mention having very little bills and making money from my own property in many ways. Gambling and losing that chance would be stupid. Gambling and winning that would be dumb luck, for me anyways.
I just asked my wife and she agreed, take the million.
We would be pretty much set.
