Fucking bad ass dude. Have fun with that thing!
I've been a self taught musician my entire life (drums, bass, guitar, piano) and then next thing I'm picking up is a cello. Probably in a few weeks. Sitar sounds awesome when done right but I don't think I have the time or patience required to own and maintain one... let alone play it decently.

 i'm trying to take guitar lessons right now but it's tough. Probably easier when you're learning an instrument from the ground up, gets rid of those pesky artistic differences

I've heard the sitar is an incredibly difficult instrument to master. People say it's more a way of life than an instrument.
I fully support your decision to invest in one, and I hope you learn to make pleasing sounds with it. If you get decent, I'd like to trip with you some time!
