I don't see anything captivating about them, other than they're the posterband of psychedelia in this era. Is there something I'm missing?

Maybe so. But if it can only truly be brought out with copious amounts of L, what's the point? I can name plenty of amazing bands off the top of my head that make me want to shed tears sober or not.
I dunno, I get what you guys are saying, but I think they're so hyped though.

I'm with you there man, honestly to me it sounds like pg-13 urban shaman music or something, would much prefer some sitar music and world music to shpongle...but to each his own I suppose.

Yup, I don't understand how anyone can listen to the grateful dead but I understand that we all like different things so I dont give anyone a hardtime for liking them 
Shpongle is aight I think I've listened to em too much. Right now I'm into hardtek and tribecore type music.

OP, you might just not like Shpongle. It's perfectly normal. Though I gotta say, I didn't like Shpongle at first either, and then it grew on me... it's really deeply trippy music.

Shpongle on shrooms is like sitting in the middle of the band. The sound surrounds you and takes shape. Its awesome.

I think the track was called behind closed eyelids and there is a very trippy trance section which blew my fucking head off when I heard it on acid.

I forget what it's called, but that one "I am you and you are me" or whatever, when I listen to it stoned it gives me DMT flashbacks.

When I listened to it tripping was sorta when I quit listening to it.
I do like it, and some tracks are exceptionally badass, but shpongle certainly does not epitomize "psychedelic" music. ..
I guess ultimately my problem is not with shpongle, but the whole hype that makes people act like they are the trippiest thing since shoelaces
I like shpongle, just not exactly what I would prefer to frequently listen to while tripping, maybe with the exception of a few certain tracks.

I agree, Shpongle just doesn't do it for me when I'm tripping. I think its OK music, but just isn't what I'd prefer to listen to.

I can understand that. I was a huuuge Dead fan for a while. While sober, I was always thinking something along the lines of: "man this would be great while tripping!"
And then I listen while I trip, and have to turn it off because I have no desire like I thought I would.
I guess we let our imaginations get the best of us.

id just like to point out that i think its awesome that people are discussing music here without being jerks at all.
shpongle is very good, i like how different the instruments are, the vocals are usually pretty sweet and the vibe in general is pretty neat. Plus they are all very talented musicians.
and personally i prefer to listen to shpongle stoned rather than tripping

Yeah sometimes I hear music and I'm like "aw shit I have to hear this tripping!" and I hear it tripping and its not all that great. I think Black Moth Super Rainbow would be good for tripping music, their instruments look big, old and crazy. But they could be the same thing as Shpongle how you think it would be good but then you hear it tripping and you're just alittle disappointed.
And yeah Shpongle stoned > tripping.
