Contaminated? grow box first flush
    #16105452 - 04/18/12 08:14 AM (1 year, 30 days ago)

Hi, can anyone look at this picture and tell me if the Green stuff is a contamination issue? This is my first grow with the box and it's also the first flush. If it is , what can I do to save the other flushes? These are cambodian mushrooms. thank you very much

I don't see mycelium anywhere dude. Trichoderma. Not hazardous to your health, but don't open it anymore. Toss the whole thing in the trash. The green is actually spores, trillions of them. If you ever want a successful grow, get that outside asap

Hi, so I throw the box in the trash? no good anymore? thanks...the instructions on the grow box were wrongly translated, I didn't water them twice a day, and the temperature was about 20 degrees C, maybe these were the problems. Any advice ?

For the money, I'd say no. Plus you can't guarantee sterility etc, and you don't learn where you went wrong if you indeed do. Also, say you've got 10 jars and 1 goes bad, it's not the end of the world....if you have 1 grow box, well I don't need to tell you how that feels.

I've had a lot of success with cubes and very little with sclerotia recently but am glad I'm doing it this way as I'm learning each time.

No. I'm assuming you inoculated that with spores which needs to be done properly with a sterilized needle in a way that doesn't allow mold spores to reach the sterilized substrate on the bottom. On the top you have a layer of vermiculite that protects the sterilized substrate below. If that layer gets disturbed too much or wet (before the mycelium has completely colonized) it cannot service it's function and once any amount of mold spores reach any part of the uncolonized sterile substrate they will take it over and overwhelm any mushroom mycelium.

It looks like the contams came in from the top.. both on the left 'green', and the right 'yellow', the myc at the bottom looks ok, but maybe over moist. So maybe the top wasn't kept 'clean' and it was over hydrated?

I dunno - im still learning too, but i've seen the green mold a bit, and the yellow... when i over water.

Still i'm interested in what did actually go wrong... How long were you growing this for?

Hi thanks for the inputs.. they "grew" for 1 month, I threw the thing away yesterday. Maybe , they were over hydrated. do you know about these G B? after you remove the water from the 12 hour period, you have to leave the plastic bag closed for 5 days? and then start to water? I stared watering right after the 12 hour period...

Mold is unrelated to watering. It's often from uncolonized substrate being exposed to mold or mold spores. A lack of fresh air can also be a contributor, like if there were no air holes in the bag. That much mold had to have been growing for quite a while despite surfacing and turning green only recently.

Over watering could be a factor too? Doesn't standing/puddled water increase your chance of contam?

Yea the excess water kicks the door wide open for bacterial type problems. had a couple cased popcorn trays that were too wet blow up with bacterial blotch.
