I can't find a description of any species that have germ pores and the svim key flat out states that the whole genus lacks them.

I recall Alan once saying Gymnopilus were MORE confusing under the scope..
If you google germ pore and look at the 'images, you'll see several very good visual demonstrations of what germ pores look like from several angles.
I guess if you question what you see so far, either look again or take new images of different spores. Trust what you see and describe that rather than making what you see fit Gymn. Sometimes when I'm stumped, new material and that idea get me back in check.

let's hope he's out with a hot chick who thinks he hung the moon  I've looked over Pholiota but all of the ones that macroscopically match have smooth spores. Overall these look like gymns but idk, I don't find any Gymnopilus in my keys with germ pores.

Any other cystidia present? If not G. Magnus might work...
EDIT: this is actually a very poor suggestion because G. magnus are easily twice the size on average compared to the species in the op.
