Next week looks good for consistent rain and relatively low temperatures. Found some yesterday in a well shaded overgrown area with heavily decomposed woodchips. They've been appraised and have been found to be relatively good in the experience they confered.
The hope is that as time progresses the conditions will continue towards a peak optimum and yield will be sufficiently high.
Looking forward to this thread picking up.

Hey guys I know that the season is coming soon so a few weeks ago I decided to go to my local park and steal some of the tanbark and wood chips there. Chuck those wood chips in a garbage bag and soaked them up with water. I went to check up on the wood chips today and I've noticed that there was some white stuff on the chips and I think it may be the mycelium. Just wandering if you could tell if they are the subaeruginosa mycelium.
P.S. subs have been known to grow in my area, particularly my front yard!

that looks simialliar to the stuff i found in my garden a year ago after putting sub stems in there two years ago and sure enough ive picked and tripped on about 20 to 25 subs this year so i would say keep an eye on where you found it, its very heavy looking compaired to the other mycelium ive found in my garden which sprouts different mushies, i would say yeah but i dont actually know so...... yeah

It's going to rain everyday next week with temperatures ranging from 12-17 degrees. Sub season for sure!

Living in melbourne now (maybe I should change my name? ), didn't realise subs could grow with such high night temps! Anyway, when does the season usually get in full swing? And how far away from the CBD should I be looking? Also is there a big rain/temp variance in different parts of melbourne?

I'm going to be in Melb in a month's time, right at the end of May... and I'm gonna have quite a few days free to go out bushwalking
I can't wait!
If anyone can recommend a nice motel, or a nice bushwalking trail please let me know via .
At the moment i'm looking for some accommodation around the northern green wedge, or the south east suburbs, but if there are any other places you'd recommend then pls me.

I found them right near my work (in the park which is Chadstone). I also find them 1 hour out of Melbourne in the bush.

This will be my first season too, exciting times!! I'm going to be trying my luck in the Latrobe valley are but I've been hearing that it is pretty scarce around Anyone had any luck finding gold around here in the past?? And I don't think parks with woodchips around will produce like ones in the suburbs so am I better of going to the pines or bush lands or stick with parks too??

Your best bet is to go have a look, the place I find more subs than anywhere else is somewhere I was both told and had read that they don't grow.

I went for my first hunt today too. Came back with some specimens that look similar to subs but do not bruise blue. Doing a spore print anyway. Yeah benny i live near box hill. My mate found heaps there last season.
