Yeah this thread is hurtin bro, things are obviously slowing right down.  I got out and had a look last weekend, not much around although I did find some growing in a spot that hasn't had any since June last year.  Funny how these things work.

I haven't thrown in the towel yet, as long as there's a few around I'll still get out there, but I don't think we'll see much more activity here.

Hey all, just wondering how you guys decide when to go picking?
Having nice Melbourne weather and all...
I generally go searching after a couple days of light rainfall but have never found a massive patch, but my first ever hunt was pretty much as season was coming to a close, everytime I go out to one certain area I pretty much always find at least 1 but never more than 3 growing out of the 1 patch yet I would consider the patch fully matured by looking at the waviness of the cap. Im hunting subaeruginosa in particular, I have no idea about any others that grow in Melbourne.

    #16668034 - 08/08/12 10:37 PM (9 months, 10 days ago)

Hi all,

First season, first post, first attempt at uploading flicks etc.etc...

Picked monday and knowing the little I do I thought it best to get a check on these first few, very slight in blue brusing, a lot larger and lighter in colour to the rest I have picked recently (being that I have only been a handful of occasions)

Will do my dues in research this week so I'm not asking these questions again. Just wondering if you've any tips for cleaning, drying and storing?

ID please?

Same again

here's mondays pick

interesting cup like fungus?

noticed this blue spread throughtout 5 or 6 separate patches

pick from 2 weeks back

Star funghi

Hey there welcome, im no TI but do have some knowelage on subs, please dont consume anything untill you get a TI approval. Its hard to tell with out close up images, but i can see there are 2 shrooms to the far left running vertical in your 3rd pic that are different to the rest that could be subs, i can see blueing, eye straining though. I put money on them to be subs but not my life or yours. Your 2nd last pic is interesting too, yet again eye straining (cose up pics would help alot and a pics of the gills/underside) but there are alot of shrooms that are ticking a few boxes to indicate that they are subs. Such a hard call though and there so many to try and decifer. For a proper ID lay them out, number them, get a spore print on every one and take pics of the cap, stem, gills and the whole shroom. Pics need to concentrate on each shroom in focus and send an ID request. Thanks for using scissors but leave the small ones, you will get more out of them once they have grown and it gives them a chance to drop ther spores which means more shrooms for u. Hope this has helped but wait for for a TI. There out there:mushroom2:
Oh yeh the other pics are definetely not subs. Read this whole thread and u will defenetly know how to dry and store, dont wash them just give them a blow if dirty try not to handle them to much.

I agree with everything Cooked says, but I'm not a TI either.  You're better off starting a new thread for an ID.

And as Cooked says, lay off the small ones.  If the cap hasn't separated from the stem then it hasn't dropped its spores, and you want them spores to drop if you want more mushies.

Subs are all you'll find in Melbourne.

This time of year it's really a lottery as to when to head out, it depends more on the patch than the weather.  A lot of patches have packed it in for the season, but yeah if there hasn't been any recent rain you're making it pretty hard for yourself.

You're better off waiting until the start of next season and then really getting out for a hunt.  That's the best time to find your patches, and you'll get to know their fruiting patterns as the season goes on.  Every patch really is different, but at the height of the season you can go out every few days and get big hauls.

Hope that helps.  For more info read through this year's thread, you'll learn heaps from it.  Every question you have will have been asked by someone in this thread at some time.

lol, Cooked... How do you keep finding mushies like this? Do you have a shroom radar?!? I've spent SO many hours looking and probably haven't found a 100th of what you've found this year! You must have over 10,000 mushrooms or something based on your pics and posts!

Yes, I jelly!

LMFAO, sort of like a rader, damaged my senses a couple years ago took to many in one go and now when im close to big pathes or a big flush is on my ears hurt excactley the same as then. Not recomended though, cant comment on how many, my user gallery tells the story all i know is i probebally seen double or triple of what i picked. No need too be greedy.lol(joke)

Seeing as it was my first season i put down to good karma, lots of research and probally 1000 km of walking not exaderating. Found these early April which looked very old this gave me a sniff to start the ball rolling.

Spose just use scissors, leave pins and good deed here and there never goes a stray, I never walk past rubbish and keep walking.:thumbup:
