Here's some nice knotweed habitat pics new2shroomzz.It wont get that tall or thick till about late april though.Your gonna have to crawl through this delightful jungle to find the big clusters but they tend to grow around the bases of the plant.
Big ass shrub jungles. Gotcha. . I want to bring back a big haul this year so I can give my CLOSEST friends the delight of tripping. Oh no, another question! Say I wanted to dry a haul out for preservation. Same process as cubes? Box fan 24-48 hours and into a desiccant chamber? Or will the fan do the job alone? I'd hope so, this guy doesnt have any damprid left and is unemployed.

*should have* this map shows that I and many people along the ohio in Ky got 1-1 1/4 inches in the last 7 days, so if you are in the green, it's probably time. I'd say it takes about 6-7 days after the rain stops for the mush to get to full size, so I'd wait 4 days at least after the rain stops, but starting now, I'd just look whenever possible

Someguy, that information was vital to my hunting. Kudos to you that map is legitt. I guess that means im off to the creek after my classes or multiple creeks. Do you think with the weather droppin down into the 30's would hurt anything? It dropped overnight, its still only 40F where im at.

I doubt it matered. Once the primordia form, they won't stop growing, unless it gets below freezing, so they are either already growing and the temps didn't matter or they hadn't formed yet, and the temps didn't matter

I HAVE HOPE! . Guess I might pull a 6 hour hunt today. Thanks again someguy, hooked me up with some pretty valuable info. Well, what I deem valuable. Good luck to all ovoid hunters, got my fingers crossed for us all. Hoping it will be a good season.

Knotweed is not a requirement, if you limit your searches to it you'll be missing patches. They are most likely to grow in any spot where flood debris accumulate, like sharp bends in the creek.

Everybody says that kind of pile is a prime target, but I think they dry out too quickly because I rarely see any kind of mushroom growing on them. At least until they start getting green vegetation growing over them. On the other hand, nobody seems to talk about ovoids growing right from the creek embankments, from old buried debris. About half my finds last year were discovered right at eye level as I stood with the creek lapping my feet.

This is true, knotweed is not a requirement. But when all other spots fail dont hesitate to start searching through it.Just be careful of snakes and other critters.I've haven't had an encounter with anything nasty yet but there is still that chance so just be safe out there everyone. And do not forget to check wood mulch beds in areas close to rivers and creeks,i cant stress this enough.

The two patches were about a fifth of the one we found today. It was a monster . The pic that shows the containers was after we were done picking from the patch. Still left A LOT! Gotta love the gregariousness! Didn't have time to get out for the Morels , and, it's my only day off this week.
There is lots of dead wood under that grass. I believe there was some dumped there after a storm or something, although it is about 30 yards from the Ohio river. It was underwater toward the end of april last year.
Thinks for all the congrats. They are definitely in season. It's not a fluke. If you are near Cincinnati or have been having similar weather you should be gettin' lucky in kantucky very soon.
GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Yep, if you don't get down at mushroom level you're going to have a hard time finding these guys. Actually, I prefer hunting at dusk with a flashlight to see in those areas that are in impossibly deep shadows during the day.
I didn't see a single mushroom of any sort today, I think we need a bit more rain and it actually got below freezing last night.
