Associate Professor Stephen M. Kajiura was reviewing with his evolution class in GS 120 for a midterm when FAU student Jonatha Carr interrupted him: “How does evolution kill black people?” she asked. Kajiura attempted to explain that evolution doesn’t kill anyone.
And then, Carr became violent.
A fellow classmate, Rachel Bustamante, was sitting behind Carr prior to her outburst and noticed she had been avoiding looking at the professor until 11:35 a.m. — that’s when she snapped. The classmate reported that Kajiura was discussing attraction between peacocks when Carr raised her hand to ask her question about evolution. She asked it four times, and became increasingly upset each time Kajiura’s answer failed to satisfy her.
A video taken by Bustamante shows Carr ranting and threatening to kill the professor and several students. At this point, the witness who contacted the police claimed, “No one was comfortable in the room. I realized the situation was escalating and went out to call the police.” Seconds later, Carr walked down an aisle of the classroom and slammed the palm of her hand into the forehead of a male student.
Kajiura stayed in the room, trying to keep the class calm, while a few students stepped out to call police. “She became increasingly belligerent,” he said. “It was at this point, a highly emotionally charged individual who was no longer capable of responding rationally. She was threatening to kill both me and the students in the class.”
Then Carr made her way to the back of the classroom. “Some [FAU technician] came in and ordered her to get out,” Kajiura said. “He ordered her to leave the room, and they got into a physical altercation. Several other individuals jumped in and tried to help him.”
Kajiura said he didn’t recognize Carr prior to her outburst, but after looking through his records, he found that she emailed him right after Spring Break. “She had sent me a very nice email asking about one of the lab problems,” he said.
The professor mentioned the entire ordeal took no more than 10 minutes, and he went back to lecturing, although only half the class remained. “No one could concentrate,” Bustamante said. “Everyone gave up and started texting.”
Bustamante gave the professor a copy of the fight, which she recorded on her cell phone and posted on Facebook and YouTube. Kaijura went on to praise his students, claiming they were “Absolutely fantastic. They acted responsibly.”

I'm still unsure how the professor failing to reply to an e-mail explains how she exploded like that, I'm pretty sure that some other shit's been happening in her life and she finally just snapped.

I think she made it pretty clear that the underlying problem was that she hates all white people. That coupled with her apparent failure to understand basic evolutionary theory set her off.

Husbands beating their wives usually has very little to do with the woman. Similarly, this woman's outburst has very little to do with evolution or racism. It looks more like an emotional reaction due to personal stress and poor coping skills.

I think it could also be Trayvon induced mania. I think the murder of that youth is going to have some interesting ramifications in the coming year, including the reelection of President Obama. Previously it was thought that he wouldn't have the same number of people really passionate about his campaign, but I think this murder has the potential to be a rallying point.

the thing that sucks is that if someone starts going nuts like that in your class and you get into an altercation with them, you could lose your federal aid and get expelled. so unless it's a life or death thing your hands are tied unless you're an idiot (they have those at school too).
if this had happened at my school she probably would've been shot and tazed, in that order.

I was once in an abnormal psychology class and on this particular day we were reviewing the morbidity associated with schizophrenia. Apparently the information hit too close to home. One of the students on the back row, a young guy, flipped his shit completely and threw his textbooks across the room at the teacher, screaming "Fuck you, fuck this class, this is bullshit, I don't have to listen to this, etc." and then stormed out. The information violated some emotional conditioning he likely set up in his mind regarding an afflicted family member or something. The class proceeded, but it was "abnormal psychology" in action.

I was able to sucessfully subdue a group of black female students at the college where I work. It was fairly simple. They were in a fight with an idiotic white guy who kept yelling racial slurs at them and complaining that they wouldn't shut up. I just politely explained to him that there was a quiet area nearby where he could study in peace, and asked the girls to respect their fellow students by keeping their voices down (we could hear them 2 doors down, and this place has cement walls). My tone was confident, but not cocky. I looked them in the eyes, stood firmly on both feet and said my piece, then walked out of the room. The guy left and the girls quieted down.
Obviously, this will not work for every situation. This girl is clearly emotionally disturbed, as well as having formed some very distorted ideas about the world around her. I feel sorry for people like her, but at the same time, I feel she should at the very least be committed. If not for good, then just until she can manage to be a functional, reasonable human being.

maybe, sometimes the voices become your "friend" though and you dont mind them and actually listen to them even if you dont believe them
i think sorta like a trip in a way that its easier to go with the flow, instead of fight it

First of all, I didn't make an "inference" of any kind. Maybe I implied something.
Second, I did not suggest that any group should be hated for anything. The poster who I was responding was the one implying that whites have legitimate reason to hate and fear black people, based on incidents like this.

I didn't hear anything about the Trayvon Martin shooting until just the other day and it happened over a month ago. Honestly what happened there is monumentally fucked, much worse than flipping out in a hard class.

You'll see it how you want to see it. I'm not going to lecture you or anyone here about race relations in the U.S.; everyone already has their opinions firmly entrenched. I will say that in the case of Treyvon Martin, I don't think people would have made such a big deal of it if the races were reversed, and that is because it is a lot more common for white adult authority figures to kill unarmed black youths than for the black adult authority figures to kill unarmed white youths.

The reason for why the Trayvon Martin case is getting so much attention is its strangeness. An apparently defenseless person was murdered for no apparent reason, and it was dismissed by the authorities with very little investigation. It's fishy as all fuck.
Local news talks about gangbanging all the time. Mine does, at least, because I live next to Richmond and Oakland and that kind of shit actually happens around here.

O’Fallon police are investigating an allegedly unprovoked attack of a 15-year-old girl Sunday night. However, police believe it is an isolated incident. “This appears to be isolated,” said O’Fallon Police Sgt. Rob Schmidtke. “It sounds like a kid thing.”
O’Fallon business owner and resident Tim Petterson of Petterson Landscaping said his daughter Haley, a sophomore at O’Fallon Township High School (OTHS), was attacked by two girls near her mother’s home on West Adams Street in O’Fallon.
Petterson said Haley’s dog “Teddy” got loose around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, and she was trying to retrieve the dog when two black girls approached her. “They said ‘This is our territory white girl,’” he said. “One grabbed her by the hair, and the other one started hitting her in the face.”

I'm sure there are a lot of white people that are criminals, I mean all of my drug dealers are white.
However you have to remember that the media likes things that incite a reaction, no-one cares about the white drug dealer. Everyone wants to see racial stereotypes fitting in and being perpetuated, or they want to see one race picking on another.
I'll look for statistics on criminal offenses based on ethnicity and I'll let you know.

I believe poor parenting would go hand in hand with being "raised" to be shitheads. That all in all is still part of poor culture, parents will put themselves before their kids... Which is usually the incentive of a lot of crime. The world revolves around me, and fuck everyone else.

I am not guilty for being white, as far as I am concerned I am a race unique to myself and so is everyone else.
Many dark-skinned people I knew growing up were belittled for acting "white". People stereotype me for taking drugs, being interested in different sorts of people and cultures, and being a freak in general. My skin color is one of my identifying features, I don't assign much value to it or anyone else's, I like the variety. Ethnic backround is kinda interesting to me, but ethnicity and genetics is so much more complicated than "black" and "white", people who talk like that come off as simpletons to me, and they always seem to have an agenda other than the truth. People who rely on these distinctions are basically stuck on the idea that a god made a few distinct races of people, but what is happening is the same species evolving in 6 billion different ways, which to me is a beautiful thing.

That was nice and all, but the minute you called most of the people in this thread simpletons, is probably where people stopped liking this post.
I still thought it was well thought and overall nice post, and while our skin color shouldn't identify us, it does however make us part of a large group. You might be unique, but you're in a group with the rest of us freaks

Honestly the white-guilt rationalizations are too much for me to deal with. After being called out on my white guilt numerous times I've made a conscious effort not to think that way. (Thanks, DC, Pris, others - but not Nullface because he's actually a Nazi sympathizer.)
It doesn't change the obvious fact of the matter that gang membership is endemic among urban blacks. Blame lies with parenting and culture. Badda-bing badda-boom, pretty simple really.
If it bothers you, get involved in finding solutions, but preferably not Nullface's. IMO we all have a responsibility to do what we can to help our society function better.
