Whats up fellow shroomers, 1st post so I thought I'd just introduce myself here instead of in the pub :P... 1st attempt at BRF PF Tek going on and into day 4... I'm very suspicious of the growth in my tubs, its greyish and hardly any bright white specks of myc? can anyone shed some light and critique.

Growth looks normal as far as I can tell. You should really take the tin foil of (and tape if you used it) to allow proper gas exchange. Let em breathe!

do they have lids or are those cups? protip; do not tip flip or invert those jars!!! I see you already did, well don't do that again! It causes the filter layer of vermiculite to shift, and then they are ruined

EDIT: I just replaced the aluminium foil with just medical micropore tape over the innoc holes. Is this better?

yea, it's better. You don't need the micropore because the dry verm. is your barrier, but it won't hurt anything.

UPDATE DAY 9: These 2 have colonized faster but I just noticed that these 2 also have 2 little holes burned right through the bottom of the tubs due to me not babysitting my pressure cooker and letting them touch the bottom when pressure cooker was almost boiling dry.
Theses 2 are have came out fine (unscaved) but colonizing slower.

On another not I also have some LC noc'd up but 2 tubs have quite a bit of sediment in them I will post them tommorow as its only been 2 days.

I mean I am not sure why you would use Plastic, even as resistant as propylene is. I got the 1/2 wide Mouth from walmart for 9.46, wouldn't be a bad investment, your mycellium looks good, not very rhizomorphic(from the pictures at least) But you can isolate that out after this first batch with some tissue/Spore petri dishes.
Anywho not to shabby for your first time, let em grow, and put some micropore tape over those holes that were made. AND WATCH them closely, if any signs of contam, throw em out.

thanks for the comments m8 ... its really hard round the U.K to get wide mouth canning jars so i went with the plastic as thats all I could get my hands on. tried agar once before and got contam everytime so I'm not trying again unless I make a flow hood.

Np sir, Well I didn't know it was hard to find in UK, but I am pretty sure they have Whiskey Glasses HAHA. Which would be much more preferable to Plastic(of any kind). So that might be something that you might wanna look out for.
Petri Dishes can be a pain to work with, but they can also really help along with getting stronger strains/colonization times. Did you use the pre-sterilized petri dishes, because those are easy to work with. I would recommend them, and a PC for your agar(obviously). Might not need a flow hood, but it is REALLY nice to have haha
Anywho, great job so far, keep it up. It is slightly...addicting haha...

why would he do that? they are already more than 50%. It's a little late for the micropore tape, also it's useless. here, I'll fix;Quote:

Untrue, I have found plastic tek to colonize about 100% faster (not pf tek). Using the 1/2 pint plastic I just put one 1/4 inch hole on the top, no dry verm. Put micropore medical tape over hole, inoculate by removing tape then adding another layer of tape (2 layers of tape). This allows the plastic to be shaken just like grain jars, increases colonization. This can also be done with jars tho. IME, plastic works perfectly well.
