Yeah, I am claiming that. how much can it cost to kill an inmate? This girl is like 18 years old. Think about what it costs to house/feed/care for (dental, etc) an inmate for the ~60+ years she's going to remain alive.... then think about the cost of the lethal injection. seems like a no-brainer.

It's more than just the cost of the injection. She can appeal, all the way up to the Supreme Court, so you have the court costs of each appeal. Plus, if she doesn't pay for her own lawyer, the state is obligated to provide legal counsel. Appeals are generally long, drawn out processes, so they still have the expense of housing, feeding and caring for her while she goes through the process.

lol the people on death row are probably going to be there like 10 years anyway its not exactly a quick process, the only reason i would prefer a life sentence over a death sentence was if i was innocent and there was a chance i would get out of prison or something...

The real sad part is that is said that the maxium penalty she faces is life in prison WITH the chance of parol. She could be out in 20 years or as little as 10. When she gets released, she will probably get married and then one night when her husband is sleeping she will brutually murder him. Everyone will act all suprised and when asked why she did it she will say, "Cuz I enjoyed it fooL!"

Your opinion comes off as distasteful and visceral. I can't bare to judge something so inhuman even if she did it for joy, momentary or whatever reason, it doesn't matter. Humanity isn't perfect and shouldn't label something as 'evil' just 'cause you don't understand it. She may be a deviance but there's no reason to ignore the fact she's human.

i have a minor in criminal justice (not that it really matters) and apparently it is cheaper for a life sentence because a death sentence requires all the appeals process and all the fees that go along with attorneys and judges ect. make it ultimately more expensive than just throwing someone in a cage

Also, to those that said life in prison is a better punishment i think the way we have em wait on death row for years and years before frying them is better. They get to have that "fuck im in prison forever " feeling of despair and then they still get killed like they deserve but not before lots of suffering/isolation.

With her hands shackled to her waist and her feet shackled together, Bustamante rose and faced Elizabeth's mother and siblings before she was sentenced Wednesday.
"I know words," she said, pausing to take a deep breath and struggling to compose herself, "can never be enough and they can never adequately describe how horribly I feel for all of this."
She added: "If I could give my life to get her back I would. I'm sorry."
Elizabeth's mother, Patty Preiss, who on the first day of Bustamante's sentencing hearing called her "an evil monster" and declared that she "hated her" sat silently, staring forward during Bustamante's apology.
The Olten family declined to comment to reporters, as did Bustamante's family.
Bustamante had been charged with first-degree murder and by pleading guilty to the lesser charges she avoided a trial and the possibility of spending her life in an adult prison with no chance of release.
The teenager's defense attorneys had argued for a sentence less than life in prison, saying Bustamante's use of the antidepressant Prozac had made her more prone to violence. They said she had suffered from depression for years and once attempted suicide by overdosing on painkillers.
But prosecutors sought a longer sentence. They noted that Bustamante had dug two graves several days in advance, and that on the evening of the killing had sent her younger sister to lure Elizabeth outside with an invitation to play. Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. David Rice testified that the teenager told him "she wanted to know what it felt like" to kill someone. Prosecutors also cited journal entries in which Bustamante described the exhilaration of killing Elizabeth.
"I strangled them and slit their throat and stabbed them now they're dead," Bustamante wrote in her diary, which was read in court by a handwriting expert. "I don't know how to feel atm. It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the 'ohmygawd I can't do this' feeling, it's pretty enjoyable. I'm kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now...lol."
Bustamante then headed off to a youth dance at her church while a massive search began for the missing girl..
Obviously this girl had a harsh sentence coming but i can't help but feel sorry for her with the weight of years she has to spend behind bars. It's almost as if she wont have a life at all, not that she deserves one after what she did but it nevertheless still feels like a waste...and only 18 
Hopefully she'll find something fulfilling to occupy the long time she has a head.
...or maybe i'm just really high right now and feeling a bit too empathetic lol

Im being serious btw, I've had dreams where I accidentally killed someone and woke up feeling terrible and thinking I was in trouble, and asking "what did I do?"
So I almost know the feeling she had.. I don't think her life deserves to be taken away (eye for eye/tooth for tooth) thats some primitive biblical shit..
Why not try to study/understand her illness and help her. Instead of institutionalizing her and making her 100 x crazier for when she eventually DOES get out of jail with 10 + years of hatred built up inside

because it has been proven time and time again that our "justice" system does not re-rehabilitate people and people normally end up committing crimes again..... whether it be due to them actually being mentally defective or being placed into situations they have no chance of succeeding in, I don't know.... I'd guess a bit of both

Certainly being held accountable is only right, but the sanctity of a life must come into question. Why end 2 lives when only 1 live has to end. I think the girl was scared after she killed, and probably regretted it severely.

The death penalty is definitely more costly than life imprisonment. And with capital punishment you run the risk of killing an innocent person.
Also, people die from war, hunger and disease every day. Other people profit from all this. What Alyssa Bustamante did was bad, but it's relatively minor. The focus shouldn't be on punishing, it should be on helping.

So are you claiming that this boy intentionally murdered his 6 y/o neighbor and that her injuries aren't consistent with amateurish wrestling knowledge and practice of such?! IMO i doubt the boy had no idea of what he was doing, and upon figuring out the big mistake he made, freaked.
Nevertheless, the plea deal was of much better punishment for the crime. Tho hindsight is a bitch sometimes :/
I wasn't making a racist statement just pleading for some consistency in our justice system.

If you look at developmental and child psychology you will see that by age 12 kids clearly know the difference between life and death, violence and play and they know that death is permanent. They also can understand and vicariously experience pain they observe in others. This kind of stuff develops a couple years before 12 IIRC.

Lee Arrendale Correctional, known as Alto to folks in Ga was no cake walk, it
was a real prison for kids, it was a very dangerous place for very dangerous
people. at it's worst there was approximately one murder per week, there were
rapes and all kinds of other heinous crimes being committed there by inmates
and guards. The feds stepped in and took over after about 2 or so years, sht
it down, redistributed the kids and then turned it into a women's prison

secondly, his conviction was overturned, he was granted the original plea deal of ten years probation. he violated it by being caught with a 4-inch knife thus being put on a 'zero tolerance' policy wherein he'd face thirty years in prison if he fucked up again.
fast forward and he's eighteen, he robs a dominos delivery driver with a gun for 50 bucks in pizzas and receives a thirty year sentence.
did that violent behavior stem from his time or prison or something innate? one may never know, but he was given a second opportunity at life and showed he has remarkably violent tendencies.

A 12yo going berserk and beating an infant to a pulp is something that, though rare and very regrettable, can happen. It does not mean that someone is a psycho.
We see this horrid crime and many shout: "he should be on trial as an adult!". But the severity of the crime doesnt make him a day older than 12 years of age, developmentally. Its still a young teen, the develpmental equivalent of a seriously mentally handicapped adult. At 12 you are NOT fully accountable for your actions, end of story. Brain centers of the very traits that make us human are undeveloped little pinpoints - its absent, just as with an adult with brain damage.
Should he be kept from those acts by putting him away someplace secure? Sweet Jesus you bet your ass yes! Thats very clear because in his development, this happened. This should be given the years to correct itself and if it doesnt he should never be free. So an indefinite sentence yes, but not without periodic reassessment of the actual situation.
Giving life imprisonment without parole is a specific American activity thats considered a human rights violation in most parts of the world, thats closely monitored by human rights organizations. Most of the so called "rogue nations" you police don't even do that, let alone much of the civilized world.
My crime, for which DieCommie has crucified me with an ad hominem attack, is pointing out the racial angle of this. Yes, just like blacks in the US are overrepresented on death row, in life imprisonment (more so percentually than Apartheid South Africa) and other parts of the criminal justice system, I strongly feel that if you're black you are more likely to be put on child life imprisonment without parole.
Blacks in your country are commonly perceived more as a burden to society than as actual part of the fabric of society. A white child is more readily perceived as having developmental problems, a black child more as a potential criminal in the making.
This will of course be ripped apart by conservatives who will argue that inequality ended with the emancipation proclamation, but I just don't subscribe to that point of view.
I think that that amounts to a lack of trust in your criminal justice system and not anti-white racism (justice isnt white after all is it?) and I don't think me pointing it out makes me a race baiter.

when an animal has rabies we put the animal down, you can tell when

knife or bludgeoning them with a club could result in serious injury or
death? I certainly did, maybe his mother never taught him these things but

I agree, it is inhumane to lock someone away for life without parole. it
really punishes the tax payers because we have to spend hundreds of
thousands per year to maintain a pile of shit in the penal system. we feed
them, house them, clothe them, we give them cable TV and recreational
time, they have store visits where they can buy goodies that make life

or it's the florida penal system in which anyone convicted of the brutal
murder of a child is given life without parole. could it be that blacks
commit a disproportionate amount of crime in the US and this is why we see

how many white drug dealers do you see selling weed on the streets, now
compare that to the number of blacks doing the same? cops cant just walk into

Crack cocaine has harsher penalties because it is typically sold on the streets.
Crack cocaine laws seem targeted at blacks but that is only because they typically sell their crack on the street instead of in their homes.

I have bought dope all over chicago, milwaukee, and madison and everytime it was a black person except the few times I bought some from some puerto ricans in chicago. It is very normal for them to run out in the street and say "Rocks or Blows" when they see you nod at them or circle the block more than once. That is pretty reckless behavior if you ask me If you see a white person the places I go it's most likely cause they are there to buy dope as well. Also I was arrested last summer in Chicago for suspicion of drug activity because I was white and out of place in a high drug trafficking area. One of the cops was white and the other was hispanic.

my little brother got the same charge for the same reason, difference being
that he knocked on the guy's door, they searched him and his truck and found
nothing that would even remotely suggest he was there to buy drugs including
only having $8 in his pocket
kinda crazy though how in holograms predominantly black neighborhood all the
drug dealers are white with gold teeth and the black people are shut ins that
are terrified of the whites

Yea some of the "whites" may have been puerto rican and some pick up spots are definately almost all black but im just saying it isnt that way everywhere.
ESPECIALLY not with weed which i believe was the drug pris mentioned. In that case(weed) i've seen alot of white street dealers.

eh, while you probably are right i wouldn't make too broad of generalizations.
i remember i used to have a schwag/coke guy. he was black, knew him for about three years and i doubt he even knew my name. saw him at least twice a week and he fit the description of a 'paranoid shut-in.'
usually protocol was to pull up, let him jump in my car, then circle the block a couple times before dropping him off. dude was ghetto as fuck but seemed real professional and was all bussiness. on the other hand i've had white guys where i'd look at that them for being retarded for their cavalier attitude in public.
having your wits about you isn't a black or white thing. there's guys who can do it smart and others who do it sketchy. i'd just suppose in poorer neighborhoods you'll encounter more who do it in a reckless manner.

I think life is a horrible thing to do to people. Most people who go to prison can't cope in the outside world even if they are a changed (reformed) person. Most end up back in prison,some on even worse charges how could they expect a child to spend their whole life growing up in a prison and to come out a better person. They are going to end up worse than the adults that go in there.
This girl obviously has a couple of issues what they have to find out is if she was born like this or was it from environmental factors like maybe she was raped and beaten all her life. BUT you cant just leave her in society maybe with people that are obviously psychotic they should be "put down" why pay for them to live in a prison there whole life we can't keep a dog caged but a person is OK?

I shaved two years off my 4 year prison sentence by completing a prison bootcamp program that boasted an 85% percent success rate (people that don't return) well either they were lying or my squad was an oddity cause the majority of them are back in prison right now.

Honestly most bad drug dealers I have met have been white. A lot of the black ones had complicated techniques. Like runners and shit. Most of them seem way more cautious than us white folks. And yes, I have also had my share of stupid black folk drug dealers too. But like Pris's opinion it is extremely personal. he just seems to think his belief is ubiquitous with the whole of the US. Just cause the blacks in your hood were shitty doesnt mean they all are.
